As we go into tomorrow afternoon and evening, certainly, and certainly into friday, saturday, the mountains are going to be no place to be. This so theres system coming in. Its a cold one. Its got some moisture with it. Not a lot for us, but its really going to deliver as the aurora graphics. Thats the topographic component of precipitation where the mountains are going to wring out that moisture as the jet stream slams perpendicular into the west slope of the sierra nevada. So what did i just say . Its going to snow a bunch, man. Theyre going to look. I mean, i keep saying numbers up over ten feet in 3 or 4 days. This one of the models, this model was spitting out 12ft. So be interesting. You might maybe you get it down around kirkwood, up around truckee. It may be more like 6 to 8, but either way its going to snow a lot. Therell be a blizzard warning in effect thursday all the way through sunday. The blizzard warning is not unprecedented, but that number of days i cant remember that many days in a row, three days in a row being basically lined up with a blizzard warning. So basically what theyre saying is dont go. Just dont go. Dont even bother going up there unless youve got couple the day before and two days after to kind of let things clean up, because theres going to be enough snow and enough wind. Were going to see a lot of wind and some rain, but not not at all. The wind is not going to be as strong as what they see. Certainly in the rain is not going to be equivalent to the eight feet of snow they get. Our rainfall could be an inch and a half to two inches at most, over three days. Well come back. Caltrans is advising people to skip this storm and avoid mountain travel altogether. If youre not prepared, you dont have to be out there. Dont go after those headed up to the sierra. Caltrans does have an active list of road closures and chain control areas on their website. We have a link to that ktvu. Com. Im in berkeley. Joey hornick, ktvu, fox two news and a flurry of customers at grocery and Hardware Stores in the sierra tonight ahead of the coming snow communities are bracing and getting supplies sorted for whats forecasted as the most significant snowfall of the year so far. The Mountain Hardware and sports on donner pass road says they are ready to equip people for anything that they might need. Its the gamut. So were, uh, shovels tire chains, uh, ice melt generators, lanterns, flashlights, batteries. Um anything that you can think of that somebody would need for a power outage or a severe storm, and they are coming in for it. Locals say this is not the weekend for a casual visit, even as even half the amount of expected snow would still make a mess of those roads happening tomorrow.
