I was motivated particularly by the deaf of the doctor Martin Luther king, it came right after that, and i had been aware through the years of some of the difficulties, the racism, the lynchings, the difficulties have of being black in this country and so it occurred to me, i was home then, i retired from teaching because i had three kids. I decided to write to various cartoons, and since peanuts was the the most powerful, most read cartoon strip in the country, i wrote to Charles Schultz among the others, and i just really didnt think i would get an answer back but i did, and he was somewhat hesitant. He said he liked the idea but he really felt like black parents would feel it was patronizing. Interesting because 1968 was a very different time, then what it is today. So did he essentially put you off at that point. No, no he didnt. He was hesitant. Just as one of the other cartoonist, mary worth who isnt around anymore said they were afraid that the syndicate would drop them if they did. Now is there a film, and marmar you get to play character of franklin. Yes. When they asked you to do that what was your thought. There was so many emotions in my mind, i was nauseous, because, i was dizzy from the thought of being on the peanuts gang. I was happy. There was a lot of stuff going on but in the end i pulled it together and did my stuff. You had a lot of fun doing it. Yes. It is a 3d film, so that must be fun. The asiana actor in the 3d film do you have to do anything different or just technology, that creates the 3d. It is just technology, i did not the just do what i do with acting and they put graphics and stuff like that. You are 12 years old. You have been acting a long time. Yes. Something tells me. Yes. And you love that. Yes. Do you understand the significance of this, playing this particular character as an africanamerican friend to charlie brown. Yes, i know the big role and big responsibility and opportunity because it is the the first africanamerican character on peanuts and because franklin is Charlie Browns best friend but i think, i think im doing good as franklin. You think you are doing good as franklin. Do you think that relationship that youre going to present to children will be watching this film, it is an important one to do. Yes, i think it is because you know, because im africanamerican and charlie brownies white, so i think it will bring that into that inter color relationship in between that you dont have to be a certain color to be best friend you can be whatever you want to be.
