Yesterday felt was summer. I was loving it soaking up that sun and heat. We got up to 87 yesterday. It was a little bit muggy for my taste even if you do like warmer weather. Agree to disagree but im hanging on. We will never get, you know , together on this, because it will not happen but it was warm, muggy, very summer like for us. It will be a very similar day to day. We will see afternoon sunshine and just like yesterday were starting this morning out with a little bit of fog develop across the delaware valley. It is not quite as dense as it was yesterday but it is more widespread, more patchy variety of fog, yesterday where we did see it up in the lehigh val i and back down, toward south jersey, it was very, again, dense but here this morning we are seeing tonight a more wide range of an area including allentown, maybe a little bit of fog around trenton back down toward millville, dover, philadelphia, we have limited visability, not quite as dense though as it was yesterday. But you still need to be careful as we go out and about here on this sunday morning if you are doing so early on. A few light showers north and west of the city where we are among the border of lebanon, lancaster and berks county to the west of reading. For the most part it it is light showers, where we do see yellow and orange and and chance for moderate rainfall. Only precipitation here this morning we could get rain at times, as we go through the afternoon hours. Those showers are very, very spotty if we do see anything at all. Temperatures were waking up to 60s and 70 degrees here in philadelphia. Ac back down toward wildwood all at 70. High 60s as well, very summer like morning for us feeling muggy. We have that fog to start things out, 72 degrees by 9 00 l see sunshine but pop up shower with the High Temperature of 85, of course we are keeping an eye on jose and give you an idea is what going one that in a bit. In other news this morning , two swimmers are recovering today, they were enjoying the water down the shore when suddenly a rip current, swept them away. This all happened yesterday near youngs avenue in wildwood some first responders, were actually close by and moved quickly pulling them to safety Eyewitness News reporter alycia nieves has their story. Reporter it is one of the last few weekend was weather like this so no wonder some are still at the shore but fun day here in wildwood nearly turned tragic for two swimmers when they got caught in the rip current. We responded quickly, we got them out of the water quickly but unfortunately that is not the case infer scenario reporter everything lined for swimmers to be safe by members of the wildwood fire department, first offduty fire fighter heard the call she was nearby and decided to run and help. Were already short staffed as it is and i figure why not grab my stuff and get with him because water rescue are intense. Reporter she was first to rush to the rough watters along with nick palmer, both jumped in and got backups from the department chief who was just coming back from the convention and out of uniform but raced to the beach just in the water, all three made the rescue. It is actually feeling good because i had a call an hour later got to the hospital and saw her sitting in the bed and looked at would the man she rescued. She gave me a thumbs up and thank you. That is all i need. Because of my position i dont usually get to jump in to action like difficult today but it is rewarding to be able to help someone and have a good outcome at the end of the day. Reporter while these Fire Fighters are always willing to jump in the water if necessary they have a warning about swimming at the shore, this late in the year. You are not putting yourself at risk but us at wrist took. Reporter while it may seem like a best time to come to the beach, water warm, weather is still nice and not as crowded Fire Fighters are warning that may be deceptive. It may be one of the most dangerous times to be in the water at the shore. If the storms are out in the atlantic they do create, rip currents which was the case today. This morning residents who evacuated lower florida keys for Hurricane Irma are seeing damage for their homes for the First Time Since that storm hit. U. S. One had been opened all the way south to marathon key, well to day homeowners, business owners, disaster workers and supply trucks will be able to go all the way to key west but those people are warned that water, sewer, electricity systems are now working intermittently. Still a lot to be done there in the florida keys. Yes. We have been seeing one storm after another. You have your eye on jose as well. Not only that maria and lee , also out there in the atlantic. So it is most active time of the year for the atlantic Hurricane Season and it is living up to their name. Peak part of the season. We will talk about all three of those storms in just a second. We want to talk first about, how the start of september has been going. We started out with cool temperatures. We have really been feeling very falllike it felt for at least first half of the month and new last couple of days we have started to get that return to summer. Of course, fall does start on the 22nd of september, so that is next friday this friday coming up, actually and it looks like we will stay in this warmer then average pattern, until maybe even the end of the movement so as cool as we started out the month, we will end things up on a pretty warm, note, so just talking a little bit about what were experiencing right now and then as we take a look down, to jose, it is, of course still a category one storm spiraling off the coast of the United States at this point. It has 80mile an hour winds. We have not seen any strengthening or weakening. It has held steady with the sustain wind and millibars there. So we are seeing center of pressure about what it was 24 hours ago. It is still planning to head almost straight north. That is good news because fit heads further north it means it is not tracking west which means it is not getting close to the eastern seaboard and you see here end of the track it starts to curve pretty quickly back out in the opened ocean. In the last 24 hours we have seen this cone get pushed further out to sea. That is good news for us. There is still impact as cross the coastal areas including new jersey and delaware but with the tracking further and further out to sea, good news those impacts will be less and less. At this point, it probably looks like tuesday, maybe into early wednesday, that is when this tropical system will push pennsylvania our area, so that is when effects will be on the greater side of things for south jersey and delaware into that tuesday, and wednesday time frame. So what exactly are we thinking about when we talk about the effects from hurricane jose as it makes its pass by us . Rough surf is already out there. It is only going to get worse as we go through monday, tuesday, wednesday with these strong rip currents also a problem for us, again, we have seen issues with that. They will continue to be on the dangerous side all the way through, again, tuesday and wednesday, and then there is a potential for some beach erosion as well, as this system goes up past us, we will see those winds spiral back around and it could erode those beach areas. Be on the look out for. That coastal flooding is a possibility. Right now were expecting minor coastal flooding, probably monday into tuesday when we have high tide coming in. That is when we will have the best chance for coastal flooding but right now, it is on the minor side of things. Further inland toward philadelphia and further west, it looks like maybe just some rain showers not a whole lot else going on. There is maria. It is moving toward caribbean. At this point reason were concerned about marie ace track takes it on the northern side of the lesser andilles and puerto rico right overtop of saint martin and barbuda, two island that is just got hammered with irma. We will continue to monitor maria as well. Today 85 around the area morning fog gives way to sunshine, maybe spotty shower later in the day. Eightythree as we start the week out, jan and we are looking into tuesday, wednesday, a few showers there of course, fall starts on friday but it will not feel like witt a high of 83. Thanks, matt, very much. Good morning, everyone im jan carabao, still feeling like summer this sunday and a muggy start to the day, meteorologist Matt Peterson is live on the cbs3 sky deck with eyewitness weather. Matt, a foggy morning behind you. Yeah, it is definitely a morning we are seeing fog in Center City Philadelphia but across the entire delaware valley. It is warm, muggy definitely not what we expect in the second half of september but that fog is out there once gannon our sunday morning. We will look at our Neighborhood Network camera here from the broadheadville area and looking up in the lehigh valley, it is 64 degrees. So it is warm. That muggy air mass still sitting on top of us and that has allowed the fog to re develop in the Early Morning hours and early parts of our sunday. Not only in the lehigh valley, center city and back down in new jersey as well. We are looking at fog every where. Be careful driving around today. Here are visability across the entire area limited visibility through trenton, back town in millville, even just to dover, even though we are getting perfect visibility readings there and we are getting some fog developing, and then heading up toward poconos allentown less than a mile visibility and poconos also not completely perfect. Visibility there either. So be careful out on the area road this is morning when you are out driving around. Stay safe, and always remember it is low beams instead of the high beams when you are out there this those foggy conditions. A few showers, north and west of the city right now, right along border of berks, lebanon , lancaster county. Overall just light shower activity up near reading in orange, yellow we could get a few spots where it is moderate rainfall but that is only place that we are seeing any rain to start off this sunday even though there are a few chances for some showers, a little bit later on in the day temperatures, out there right now, definitely warm, definitely very summerlike. We are at 69 in philadelphia still looking at 70 from Atlantic City through wildwood , back toward, dover and a lot of 69s, reading, wilmington here in philadelphia 67 in millville. It is 56 up in the mount pocono area it is cooler heading north. Still all of these temperatures air above average to start the day out. We will get up quickly in the 70s by 9 00 this morning. Then we will see three and 5 00 oclock later in the day we are backup in the 80s and a couple of showers, jan, can be possible as well. We are still tracking jose. We will give you details when i come back in sign. Thank you. Two swimmers are recovering after a scary swim down the shore they were in the water near wildwood when a rip current swept them away. Swimmers got in the water at youngs avenue yesterday afternoon, and the rip current carried them several blocks away, and now three rescuers, rushed into the water and pulled them to safety near montgomery avenue. You know, feels good because i had a call an hour later and saw her sitting in the bed and looked at would the man we rescued. She gave us a thumbs up, thank you, that is all i need. Fast action there. Now rescuers say this is not a good time to get in the water if you are down the shore and that is because storms out in the atlantic are creating rip currents, plus life guard are not always on duty, as summer comes to a close. We are working with the American Association of Cancer Research, aacr is our title partner for this event and we are raising money for them and other charities as well. There is a lot of good going on here today in philadelphia once again. Reporter we have runners going along kelly drive, Martin Luther king drive. Our viewers are looking at video from last year. So lets talk about why you guys like to come to philadelphia there are so many other cities you go to but is what so special about our city here. Number one thinks a legendary event. This race has been around for 40 years. We have had so many elite runners set world record at this event, plus the thousands of every day run hers come here and get to see the city, is there so much to see in philadelphia we want them to come here, spend more than just race dau but whole weekend enjoying sight and sounds of philadelphia, restaurants and everything to do here so it is a special city to be part of. So, so much history, and not just race but just very much for everybody to be here and have a good weekend. Reporter beautiful city. How many people do you see running up those Art Museum Steps afterward. A lot. It is fun to come here before the race and do it and even after. Reporter world famous we have to talk about the cheese steaks here. You have been here for 10 years. I dont want to offend anybody but obviously somebody coming here saying i have to have a cheese stake every year. Our first year here or our second time, or 100 times coming. It is a tradition. Reporter very diplomatic answer. Thanks very much for being with us this morning. Race here kicks autopsy at 7 30. We will be here for that. Coming up as well, i have a special story to share with you about a man who is hitting all seven continents and for one very, very powerful reason so that is coming up later this morning. But for now live at the start line here, im anita oh for cbs3 Eyewitness News. Looking forward to that. A neat, i like people how you want people to just finish the Half Marathon, running up the Art Museum Steps. Always challenging people to be their best. Reporter one day we will have you do that. One day. Reporter sign you up for half and have you do that. Very far away in the future , one day i promise. We will see you in a half an hour. All right. Lets turn over to weather now to see how running weather will be for all of those runners weather, matt. First, you dont want to go up the rocky steps. My gosh, not after a Half Marathon. Have you ever. I have walk up the steps. Yes. That is half the battle. Baby steps. Literally baby, all the way all of those runners this morning it will be muggy especially at the start of the race. We have had that patchy morning fog. That will not affect you guys all that much but again, it is warm, it is humid, on this sunday morning. As you get outside make sure you dress appropriately. You want to have that wick away clothing. Staying hydrate today. We have extra humidity out there usually in the beginning and middle of september, the humidity is down. While you still need to stay hydrated while working out maybe you can getaway with just less water. Not today. It will be warm, muggy all day long. Our patchy fog is out there we are expect ago this some afternoon sunshine a lot like yesterday where we woke up with that patchy fog early on but sun did come out. Overall it stays warm, muggy. We are above average once again, and then there is a small, chance, for a rain shower, or a thunder shower, later this afternoon and we do have some precipitation up near red to go start the day out but that is the only place that were seeing rain here early on in the day. Lets look at our future weather from the morning, into now about the mid afternoon, we are going to get mixture of sun and included but sunshine will be out there and future weather does paint in those chances cross the delaware valley. Maybe more moderate rainfall just to the southwest in wilmington, overall, when we talk about spotty showers, this is exactly what we mean. Is there a shower over trenton , up toward poconos, maybe down toward millville, not every where gets caught in the rain. If you do get caught it will be very light, at best, and as we get through the afternoon and into the early overnight hours knitting with this partly cloudy skies, is there a chance for more fog to develop though as we head into monday morning. So what that means for tomorrow driving to work, it could be a little bit of the mess early in the day on machine so do take some extra time. Tune into Eyewitness News tomorrow morning for your traffic and weather updates. We will talk to you about fit is if you go i or not. Chance for showers, early in the day here and there across the coastline and then we will have another chance for a few pop up showers throughout the day on monday into the afternoon and evening, and it does look like tomorrow we will not have as much sunshine as we should get to day. Another check of jose, still a category one storm at this point. It will start to track northward. It has already started to do that. We will see effect is a long the new jersey coast, and back down toward the delaware beach necessary that tuesday into wednesday time frame, as it is weakens, from a category one, to a Tropical Storm as the National Hurricane center has it. So again right now it is well off the coast line. That is good news for us. There are still potential impacts, is there still a chance for minor beach erosion , minor coastal flooding as well in that tuesday wednesday time frame but better news for us, it continues to get pushed out to sea by our models, so that is always some good news that we can talk about not really affecting the new jersey and delaware coastline into new england either. Wave heights for the most part we have larger swells that are already coming into shore four to 6foot seas is what we have already, and we are looking for our rip current risk to remain relatively strong, as we get through today, tomorrow , and into tuesday, and probably wednesday.
