(Photo taken from the official Facebook page of Sara Duterte) MANILA-The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) announced on Wednesday it has officially adopted former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. as its presidential candidate and confirmed Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as its vice presidential candidate for the 2022 elections. During the Lakas-CMD's Executive Committee (Execom) virtual meeting, the party adopted Resolution No. 09, Series of 2021 confirming and affirming the nomination of Duterte as Lakas-CMD's official candidate for vice president, as well as Resolution No. 10, Series of 2021 formalizing the party's adoption of Marcos, standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), as Duterte's presidential running mate. "Resolved as it is hereby resolved, that Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte shall be the official candidate and standard-bearer of Lakas-CMD for vice president in the 09 May 22 national and local elections," the first resolution said, noting that the party gave Duterte the power to choose her presidential running mate. "Resolved, as it is hereby resolved, that presidential candidate senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr. is hereby unanimously adopted as the candidate for president of Lakas-CMD and running mate of vice-presidential candidate of Lakas-CMD, Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte," it added. During the same meeting, the party also adopted a resolution authorizing House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, party president, to enter into alliance agreements with other political parties. The Lakas-CMD pointed out that national unity is very important to propel the country to economic recovery following the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. The Lakas-CMD underscored the importance of building alliances with different political groups to strengthen the party's political resources and assets aimed at enhancing the winning chances of Lakas-CMD candidates. "Resolved as it is hereby resolved, that the President, Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez is hereby authorized to set the terms and conditions of the joint undertakings of Lakas-CMD and the preferred political parties toward the victory of their official candidates in the May 09, 2022 national and local elections," it added. The resolution also said the alliance agreement to be negotiated by Romualdez on behalf of the party shall be confirmed by the Lakas-CMD's National Executive Committee. (PNA) }
