Letter: A different view of HB 233

In an opinion piece by Dr. Oge Young (Monitor, March 2) regarding HB 233, the тАЬBorn Alive Protection Act,тАЭ he claims that if this bill becomes law, it would intrude on the rights of parents and on their providers, taking away precious moments of a mother with a dying baby to force on them unreasonable, futile, and unwanted medical care.
Actually, the wording of the bill says тАЬreasonable and appropriate medical careтАЭ to those infants born alive, and the stated intent of the bill is for the survivors of late term abortion. Certainly, this means that this care not go to ridiculous extremes as Dr. Young seems to suggest. Instead, itтАЩs to prevent babies from just being left to die who have a chance of survival.
