Mariel Special Development Zone consolidates role in Cuban economy
Havana, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) The Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM) is currently consolidating its strategic economic role, as five of the 29 foreign investment projects approved this year in Cuba and over 50 businesses are already under way.
Companies from 21 countries and 11 multinationals are operating in this important Zone, according to information provided by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday, at the closing of the 4th Ordinary Sessions of the National People's Power Assembly (parliament).
The president said that 55 businesses have been approved, with a committed investment that exceeds three billion dollars, generating 11,763 new direct and indirect jobs.
