NORTH PROVIDENCE – Elementary students in North Providence will have the opportunity to learn to code next year thanks to a recent grant from the Rhode Island Department of Education.
The CAL, or Coding in Another Language, K-2 program will be piloted at McGuire Elementary School next year, funded with $20,000 from RIDE.
The project is part of Computer Science for Rhode Island, a statewide initiative seeking to expand computer science offerings in schools, and is funded by a research grant from the DevTech Research Group at Tufts University.
The CAL curriculum uses ScratchJr, a program designed for children that integrates math and literacy skills.
