Montreal groups to call for release of race-based COVID-19 data

More than 15 organizations from Montreal and elsewhere in Canada are calling on the provincial and federal governments to begin collecting race-based and socio-economic data surrounding the spread of COVID-19.
“We have a lot of groups supporting us for this,” said Fo Niemi, president of Montreal’s Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR), which is spearheading the initiative.

“People are saying it’s long overdue; we really need it. There is no data to know how different communities are being hit by COVID-19,” Niemi said.
