People over the region are upset about the hospital. She could have a message i can understand why. I can understand. You notice i dont say things like that unless i have faith in the service from which ive gotten it. The Defense Department says its highly unlikely that the israelis anyway. Thats why if you notice, i didnt say the thing i want to make sure is, look. Im not suggesting that hamas totally did it, either. Thats the whole thing. You have got to know how to shoot just right. Its not the first time hamas has launched something functional. So on all the detail, but i do know the people at the Defense Department who i respect and the Intelligence Community that i respect. I resp ec and the statement about the hospital, the president released yesterday, he was very careful not to say anything about how it happened. He said he was outraged and deeply saddened and that he, quote, directed my National Security team to continue gathering information about what exactly happened. After an intelligence briefing for all u. S. Senators today about what happened at that hospital, senators appeared convinced. First, the Intelligence Community assesses that israel is not to blame for the explosion of the hospital in gaza. They believe it was an errant rocket from terrorists in gaza. Senator warren and i put out a joint statement a while ago saying we have reviewed a bunch of intelligence. I feel confident saying the israelis did not hit the hospital yesterday. Senator rubio put out a joint statement. I can say firsthand, havent reviewed the intelligence, it is my Firm Assumption that israel is not responsible for the awful destruction of the hospital and gaza. I think it is very important the Intelligence Community and others learn for it as much as possible to bring that evidence to lights, since there are clearly protests not only in the west bank but around the world. These images are horrible. But i thought it was incumbent that i see the intelligence firsthand before i reached a conclusion. And that conclusion is our that number of casualties at the hospital exaggerated . I dont have that information. This is being debated in the price around the world. And clearly there are some press outlets not friendly to the United States or to israel, that maybe simply not showing or telling those story. We can robots that buy more forwardleaning we strongly believe that israel had nothing to do with the explosion at the hospital. And its incredibly despicable that they knew, they knew that they are responsible for that and theyre blaming it on israel. At a refueling stop for Air Force One in germany tonight, President Biden announced a commitment he obtained from egypt and israel to allow the u. N. To distribute humanitarian aid inside gaza. And the president said this. Israel has been so badly victimized. But you, know the truth is, if they have an opportunity to relieve the suffering of people who have nowhere to go, thats what i should do. My point to everyone is, look. If you have an opportunity to alleviate pain, you should do it. Period. And if you, dont you will lose credibility worldwide. And i think everyone understands that. But need to support getting humanitarian aid to gaza. Get it to gaza into it quickly. President biden rejected a reports in an israeli newspaper that the u. S. Military could become involved in the fighting. He said that was not true. There is a report and the times of israel that does biden officials have indicated to israel in recent days that of hezbollah and associates of war against israel, the u. S. Military will join the atf and fighting the terrorist group. Not true. Not at all . That was never said. Possibly the single most important or President Biden said today about what might happen next is that word alternatives. When asked about an Israeli Military invasion of gaza, President Biden said this. We had a long talk about that and what alternatives are. While you feel that rage, dont be consumed by it. After 9 11, we were enraged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes. Im the first u. S. President to visit israel in time of war. Ive made wartime decisions. I know the choices are never clear or easy for leadership. There is enormous cost, put a chorus being deliberate. It requires asking very hard questions. It requires clarity about the objectives and an honest assessment about where the path youre on will achieve those objectives. Tomorrow, President Biden will address the nation to discuss our response to hamas Terrorist Attacks against israel and russias ongoing brutal war against ukraine. This speech will be delivered from the oval office at eight pm eastern. And i want to get right to that ward that President Biden used twice, that raises an interesting question about how this was discussed during that meeting with the war cabinet. He said, we had long talk about possible invasion of gaza. And he said, and what alternatives there are, our military is talking with their military about what the ultimate of might be. What do you think those alternatives could be that they were discussing . Hi, lawrence, good to be with you. Good, not good morning, here in tel aviv. The president made it very clear that but using his choice of words alternatives, it means im not happy with, im not supportive of, and i dont think its such a great idea to mount a largescale Ground Operation. He wore last week, by the, way both on television and in the white house speech, that a prolongs Ground Operation would block israel down and gaza and may result in recapture and we know what the human cost of both sides. Is so here he was referring to alternatives. There are three or four alternatives. One is to refrain from a Ground Operation altogether. Meaning, continued meeting with precision munitions, aerial bombardments, and targeted assassinations. Targeted killings. The second would be small scale incursions, just in that north or central parts or districts of the gaza strip. And were talking about gaza. Gaza is not the state of texas, its a small place. Its never against place. But insist plays on planet earth, with 2. 3 million people. So evenlimited incursion, you could get complicated. It could get monte. And nasty. A third option, which he did not raise to the best of my knowledge, certainly not publicly, would be to stop it. Its not popular and the blood is boiling. You want to exec justice for the atrocities of saturday october 7th, but just stop right now because there are hostages involved. 199 is the official count, of which i think about 20 or 25 are american nationals. And the fourth option is, you know, quell this down, bigot negotiations, but while we are at it continue on with precise or targeted killings of heads of hamas. None of these are good options. None of these, including that is of course a great operation. So when he sit alternatives, i dont know that he was offering anything specific. Maybe his military team, his Defense Specialists are. But when he said find an alternative, he just basically admitted, lawrence, there are no good options here. Let me go back to one of the options you mentioned, which is the just stop. Which i think in the United States, if you follow that language of some of the demonstrators whove been on the streets, calling for a ceasefire, if is there an option that is essentially a cease fire that thin concentrates on some kind of negotiation for foreign hostages . The option is there. But there is a qualitative difference because of the scale and the magnitude of what happened on saturday october san fran, ten days ago. This was so devastating and so shocking that i think this alternative, at this point at least, is not seriously raised by israel. Its not seriously considered as a viable option at this point. Now both of thus my understands the logic of stopping right now. But this is a non state actor. This is a terrorist organization, as President Biden said, capable of unadulterated evil, ices style. Executions and indiscriminate murder. So i think the impetus, the motivation, the Self Justification to just stop now doesnt exist. On the other hand, its going to have to, i mean, this option will have to be raised at some point. Because the alternative is to bring down hamas, and israel has been using all these euphemisms and synonyms. Eradicated, obliterated they all involve almost invariably of major Ground Operation. Which is what biden warned against. So while that option makes sense, its just almost unnatural to think that anyone is playing it, at this point, seriously. I want to listen to something the president said today about a twostate solution. Lets listen to this. As hard as it is, we must keep pursuing pace. We must keep pursuing a path so that israel and the Palestinian People can both love safely and securely indignity and pace. For me, that means a Two State Solution. That phrase, Two State Solution, is not something weve been hearing a lot in israel in recent years. No, not at all. I mean, the term Two State Solution, not only disappeared from the political jargon, discourse, but its been heralded as a no longer viable option. Did solution. Not feasible. Not acceptable. This has been american policy since bill clinton. When he published, following camp david and july of 2000, he published the clinton parameters. George w. Bush took spoke of two states. Barack obama was Vice President was joe biden, of course. Twostate solution is the preferred option for an American Point of view. Even donald trump did. And now, biden is speaking about it. But you have to understand, even if israel will entertain the option as the only, not a great option, but as the only workable solution in the long run, the events of october 7th preclude that and moralis take it off the table in the immediate timeframe. Because people are going to say, naturally, theyre going to say look at what happens on october 7th. You actually seriously think israel will now allow for Palestinian State to be established . We are going to have these october 7th incidents on a weekly or monthly basis. Thats going to be but in the slightly longer run, lawrence, israels gonna have to get back to the alternative is going to be a one state model. Meaning, by National State and which there is a population, demographic equilibrium. 50 jewish and 50 precedent palestinian so i think this will be, this will reenter public discourse. However, i dont know if youre going to go into that. However, this necessitates not only serious on the past of the palestinians, but it will require a completely different Israeli Government. A Government Led by mr. Netanyahu, right when messianic people he built his coalition with. This government is never going to come to complete seriously a twostate solution or enter negotiations. I think the, if i may add quickly, i think biden is merkley thinking of the day after. Meaning, that while america didnt want to get involved, america doesnt want to be an intermediary again for the umpteenth time in the last 30 years, this crisis may provide difficulty to even use the word right now, but it may provide a Silver Lining in terms of a final realization that the Two State Solution needs to be back on the table and needs to be seriously considered. My ears pop today when i heard it, as part of a serious dialogue going on with israel today, at this most serious of all moments. To hear the president say Two State Solution was something that took me back in time. Yeah, i know. Its back to the future. But he had to. From his point of view, he keeps on saying, guys, i have a understand your, encouragement be consumed by it, he said. We have been through 9 11. That rage was fair. Dont be consumed by it because youre bound to make mistakes. Do not repeat our mistakes. We saw justice, we achieved justice, but we made mistakes along that way. Please dont do that. The alternative to not doing that is, as your iris popped and mine too by the way, is to go back to the Two State Solution. Why the u. S. Would want to mediate this, if the two parties are unwilling or incapable of making those hard decisions, i dont know. But we dont have time right now on your show. But there are other options, other construct that can be considered. And interim trusteeship by nato, by the u. N. Im not saying its easily done, but Everything Else was tried and failed. There could be attained era process rather than a, lets meet for one weekend at camp david and get this done. That obviously failed. But it doesnt mean we cant stretch it a long time if there is goodwill and a serious intention to get it done. He said, rage is not a good adviser. Grief is not a good adviser. Vengeance is not a good adviser. And hes learned that the hard way, and he even cited 9 11, the u. S. , us and or overreact. Dont make this something that you have to do. The consequences of it or very high. The risks are very high. So they are obviously trafficking in threats on this and the vote is just getting worse for jim jordan. The Pressure Campaign is not working. These members have shown themselves so far to be courageous, to put the country over the chaos. The question now, lawrence, is why dont you take the ultimate leap and cross the rubicon of solving this problem. And again, if you put up somebody reasonable, a lot of people on our side perceived as reasonable, youll have democratic votes to support. You so dont just keep repeating the crazy by going through this arduous and putting up insurrectionists, put up a Problems Over who can get things done. And you have democrats ready to support. Would there be democrats support for allowing the speaker pro tem to have the powers to actually bring legislation forward . Yeah, because were a Governing Party. So, yes. Again, we stand ready to support leader jeffries to negotiate whatever it takes to allow us to show that were competent, they are chaotic, were going to govern, theyre in opposition. And so, yes, all of that is on the table. They just have to come to us, lawrence, because were a few votes short on our side. And we stand ready. Right now what i fear is that although they know politically the right thing to do is to govern, personally many of them fear for their own safety because of these death threats. And for a lot of them, they look at, to i want to beat liz cheney . To i want to be Adam Kinzinger . Have my life upended . I know that its not comfortable from a guy that get a lot of the difference. At the end of the day, with a country to read and a lot of people at home a critic on us. These are the big leagues. Its time to make some big league decisions. Do they have any concern for the traumatized people in israel who just suffered this terrible attack on october 7th . Are still reeling from it and look into the United States for help, including help from the congress . Republicans on israel and ukraine and taiwan, they talk tough and they act soft. Right now, if you are in taiwan, if you are in israel, you should really question whether theyre going to have your. Back because they vote away from ukraine, theyre in opposition to themselves. They cannot govern, theyve failed to govern. And so that affects whats happening in israel right now.
