The newly appointed ANC Free State interim provincial committee (IPC), led by former economic development MEC Mxolisi Dukwana, on Thursday apologised to the Maluti-a-Phofung community for the “erroneous decision” taken to expel 16 councillors who were fighting corruption in the municipality.
This was one of the outcomes of the IPC’s first meeting held early this week since the committee was appointed by the ANC’s national working committee (NEC) last week.
The interim structure was formed after the governing party decided not to appeal the Supreme Court of Appeal ruling that the provincial executive committee elected in 2018 was lawful.
At the briefing on Thursday afternoon in Bloemfontein, the IPC said it would be petitioning the NEC to reverse the councillors’ expulsion.
