STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- As we get ready to celebrate the end of the year 2020, which brought with it the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, here’s a look at what is open and closed on New Year’s Day 2021, which will be observed on Friday.

No garbage collection, no recycling, no organics collection and no street cleaning.
Residents who normally receive Friday garbage collection can place materials at the curb between 4 p.m. and midnight on Friday, however collection may be delayed.
