For years, the New York state Comptroller's Office has amassed a multibillion-dollar fortune, money that has gone unclaimed and needs to be returned to its rightful owners.
But the burden is on individuals to determine whether their name appears in the unclaimed funds database and to undertake the steps required to recover that money.
