NEWPORT — The Newport Folk Festival kicked off to a smooth start with “palpable excitement in the air,” as one festival-goer put it during the city’s first major post-COVID vaccine event.
Diehard fans could not wait for the action to begin, including Dylan Hall of Peachland, Ontario, who had a six-day journey before arriving at the gates.
“I still can’t believe I’m here,” he said. “I drove 45 hours from Peachland to Toronto. The land and sea borders were closed, but not the air border. I flew to Boston, took the train to Providence and finally the bus to Newport.”
