A ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages packaged in miniature plastic ânipâ bottles went into effect in Mashpee this week, despite objections by liquor store owners.
The board of selectmen voted 4-1 last November to ban the sale of nip bottles up to 100 milliliters. The ban, which went into effect yesterday, is a condition of liquor licensing.
During the selectmenâs meeting on Monday, a motion to postpone the nip ban until January failed 2-3 and the ban went into effect three days later.
âWeâre not out to hurt businesses, believe you me; weâre out to eliminate the 100 nips that are along Route 28,â Carol A. Sherman, chairwoman of the selectmen, said in a phone interview yesterday. âI donât think there is going to be an impact on businesses.â
