Nursing homes prep for vaccine as hospital distribution continues

WOONSOCKET – Nursing homes around the state are expected to begin vaccinating residents and staff against COVID-19 next Monday, Dec. 28, according to the latest information from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Alysia Mihalakos, co-lead of the RIDOH Mass Vaccination Workgroup, said during a conference call last Wednesday the rollout of the vaccine to nursing homes in partnership with CVS and Walgreens is expected to begin next Monday. The pharmacies are participating in a national effort to distribute the vaccine to long-term care facilities.
