OP-ED: We cannot afford to ignore gun crisis encroaching on Cambridge
Councilors Marc McGovern and Denise Simmons
We remember Jason Ellcock, 33 years old.
We remember Kensley David, 22 years old.
We remember Charlene Holmes, 16 years old.
We remember Xavier Louis-Jacques, 19 years old.
We remember Robert Favreau, 22 years old.
We remember last Friday … when a 22-year-old and a 16-year-old were taken to the hospital after being shot within hours of each other in The Port. We remember them all. We cannot afford to ignore the gun crisis that is encroaching on our city.
Every summer, it feels like we lose more and more of our youth to senseless gun violence. Easy access to firearms is devastating lives, traumatizing neighborhoods, and erasing the peace of mind every parent deserves to have when they send their child into the world.
