All transit service is canceled, major roadways are closed. and hundreds of thousands are without power.
A dangerous mix of snow and ice hammered much of the region late Friday and early Saturday, forcing TriMet to cease operations, as well as shut down many roads, and knock out power for hundreds thousands of people. Mass vaccination clinics were also canceled for Saturday and Sunday in Portland.
A Winter Storm Warning remaining in effect at least through 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13.
Early Saturday morning, TriMet announced that all MAX and bus service has been temporarily suspended until further notice due to the weather conditions, including LIFT paratransit service. Portland Streetcar service was halted Friday. The Oregon Department of Transportation has closed Interstate 84 in the Columbia Gorge, and the Portland Bureau of Transportation has closed Marine Drive. Many other streets in Portland were also closed because of slick conditions and chains are required in certain spots.
