Opponents file suit against Rose Quarter project April 05 2021 According to court documents, the group will be citing alleged environmental laws that ODOT s project would be violating under the plan. Three groups announced they have filed a lawsuit against the Rose Quarter Freeway Expansion project, a congestion-reducing effort in that would add lanes in the Interstate 5 Rose Quarter. The group comprised of No More Freeways, Neighbors for Clean Air, Eliot Neighborhood Association said the Oregon Department of Transportation s proposed $800 million freeway expansion intrudes on Harriet Tubman Middle School and the surrounding community. According to court documents, the group will cite to show that environmental laws that ODOT s project would be violating under the plan. Indiana man charged with attempted murder of Portland police Malik Muhammed is accused of repeatedly trying to kill officers during protests last summer. An Indiana man was indicted on allegations that he attempted to murder two police officers during separate riots in Portland last year by using explosive devices. Malik Muhammed, 24, was arrested on multiple warrants Friday, April 2, and remains in an Indianapolis jail. He will be extradited to Oregon, where he will face multiple felonies as part of a 28-count indictment, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney s Office. According to the indictment, prosecutors claim Muhammed came to Portland in September 2020 for the specific purpose of engaging in multiple criminal acts. On Sept. 5, he engaged in tumultuous and violent conduct near the Portland Police Bureau s East Precinct that resulted in a grave risk of causing public alarm, the indictment said. ....
Man arrested for paintball shots, threats in downtown Portland park Police respond to Chapman Square where they arrest the suspect and seize his weapons. A 32-year-old man is accused of threatening several Portland Parks & Recreation rangers with an ax and hitting another member of the community with a paintball in downtown Portland Randy Graves was booked into the Multnomah County jail and faces multiple charges including menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, fourth-degree assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangering and possession of a weapon in a park. According to police, around 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, a man walked into the Portland Police Bureau Central Precinct to report that he had been shot by a suspect with a paintball gun. The man told officers he was riding his bicycle in Chapman Square Park, near the intersection of Southwest Third Avenue and Main Street, when the suspect fired a paintball at him, hitting him once. ....

As Washington shows early signs of getting serious about replacing the Interstate 5 bridge, Oregon s lawmakers said Wednesday, March 31, they want to be wooed. Oregon still feels like the bride left waiting at the altar, said Sen. Lee Beyer, D-Springfield, after the Washington State Senate infamously refused in 2013 to fund a replacement for the century-old bridge. Council majority proposes alteratives to police funding to fight violence April 01 2021 Four of the five Portland City Council members support spending more money on alternative programs and services. Some members of the City Council have put forth a proposal aimed at combating gun violence in Portland and it does not include increased funding for police. The proposal, which KOIN 6 News obtained Thursday, April 1, from the office of Commissioner Carmen Rubio, is in response to a $2 million proposal floated by Mayor Ted Wheeler for the Portland Police Bureau s Enhanced Community Safety Team.
