It was an unforgettable moment for 42 graduates of the Petronas-run Kimanis Petroleum Training Centre (KTC) from 2017 and 2018 when they stepped forward to receive their diplomas during their convocation ceremony, here, Thursday. 
Director General of State Public Service, Datuk Rosmadi Datu Sulai highlighted that Petronas remains unwavering in its commitment towards investing in education and human capital development, particularly in Sabah despite challenges facing the industry globally. 
“It’s truly heartening to know that graduates are highly-sought not only for their knowledge and skills but also their competency and practical experience,” he said, lauding efforts by Petronas in supporting the State’s education development. 
He said this initiative includes the establishment of KTC, Mara Science College (MRSM) Ranau and the annual award presentation of Petronas education scholarships for students to pursue higher education. 
Furthermore, Rosmadi noted contributions by Petronas through the Vocational Institution Scholarship and Training Assistance (VISTA) involving five institutions in Sabah augurs well for enhancing the technical capacity of youth in the state, noting there are numerous programmes provided towards youth talent development in the state and the country. 
Through the Commercial Collaboration Agreement (CCA) signed between the state government and Petronas on 7 Dec 2021, Rosmadi said there exists various plans and programmes being implemented towards Sabah development which includes human capital. 
“It is through such joint-initiatives, we are encouraging more students at schools and higher education institutions to give more emphasis to Science, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, “he said. 
Elaborating further, he said more focus is provided towards enhancing the number of local experts in the oil and gas industry. He noted the establishment of KTC in 2011 reflected Petronas commitment to fulfil the demand of qualified and skilled manpower in the oil and gas in the country, especially in Sabah. 
During the event, Rosmadi presented the scrolls to the graduates which was witnessed by their families. 
The Petronas-run KTC training centre has so far produced a total of 174 graduates with nearly 100 per cent employment rate by the oil and gas sector, as well as other industries. 
For Sarifuddin Usman, 22, one of three top achievers presented with the prestigious best student’s award, he was happy to have the opportunity to complete his training with KTC. 
“Our wonderful accomplishments could not have been made possible without the outpouring support from our trainers, colleagues and family members,” he said
