Plunging into new traditions for Special Olympics Michigan

KENT COUNTY, MI – Instead of jumping into an icy lake, this year’s virtual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Michigan participants used the help of firefighters near Grand Rapids for their own unique spin on the anticipated winter tradition.
About 15 people took the plunge Sunday, Feb. 28 by being doused with water from suspended hoses attached to a Cutlerville Fire Department truck -- to allow for social distancing -- in the parking lot of the Special Olympics building in Cutlerville.
The annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Michigan serves as a fundraising event that contributes to the “year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 23,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan,” according to the organization’s website.
