(Courtesy of Archdiocese of Cebu) MANILA - Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Ruben Labajo as auxiliary bishop of Cebu. The Vatican announced the appointment at 6 p.m. (local time) on Thursday in Rome. Labojo, 55, was vicar general of the Archdiocese of Cebu prior to his appointment as bishop. A native of Cebu, Labojo was born on Sept. 24, 1966 in Poblacion, Talisay City. The new bishop completed his Philosophy and Theology studies at the San Carlos Seminary College in Cebu City. On June 10, 1994, he was ordained priest for the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. Among the positions he held were: parish vicar in Mandaue City (1995-1997); Pastor of Santa Fe Parish, Bantayan, Cebu; Moderator of Tabunok Parish, Talisay City (2007-2014); Moderator of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cebu, Member of the Staff Council of the Archdiocese; Vicar Foraneo of the Vicariate of the Most Holy Rosary (2014-2019). Labajo also became a member of the Council of Consultors, Episcopal Vicar of the 1st District and member of the Presbyteral Council in 2017.
