RRCA to host "Coppelia" this weekend
Two casts of about 40 masked dancers will split this weekend’s four shows.
“Coppelia” is the lighthearted 1870 tale of engaged couple Swanhilda and Franz. Their relationship takes a turn when Franz falls in love with Coppelia, a lifelike mechanical doll.
Swanhilda and her friends investigate Coppelia by breaking into the workshop of toymaker Dr. Coppelius, Coppelia’s creator.
To teach Franz a lesson, Swanhilda dresses as a doll and pretends to come to life. Dr. Coppelius humorously tries to bring Coppelia (Swanhilda in disguise) back to life.
“Coppelia” ends in a big village wedding.
