Africanamerican president. Yeah yeah as you can see our water is nothing exposes the racial and political divisions in this country faster than the mere mention of the idea that the United States government might actually be held physically and socially responsible for the hardships currently faced by black americans today due to the countrys history of slavery and institutionalized racism so today lets talk about reparations and also most importantly the historical and cultural importance of juneteenth and what that means for the u. S. As we start watching the hawks. Get the. Real deal its. Like you know that i got. This. Welcome in watching the hawks i am a robot and im tapped. To help us better understand the importance and what it has to offer us education is the president the National Chain type Observance Foundation state blame thank you so much for joining us today steve good evening thank you very much for having us be with you its a great pleasure to have you on your special for all the good work that you guys are the true been out there doing in trying to get you know juneteenth recognized i want to start by asking you what is the historical significance of juneteenth as the day that celebrated or the bay thats remembered of africanamerican slavery ending in the United States i think many in history classes across the country you know we kind of believe that it was always the emancipation proclamation when lincoln did that actually and of slavery but juneteenth is an important day for the celebration because it really recognized when slavery truly under correct well. Its phrase correctly juneteenth is puerto rico a combination of june and and a several days to happen during june 13th the day that most commonly recognized is the day when general Major GeneralGordon Granger was issued general order number 3 and texas in Galveston Texas and that was after they were sent there to reinforce the border shore force from the french army which was coming back from mexico at the bow deployable. And when they were forced by storm to land in galveston the soldiers there knows that slavery hadnt really taken effect the freedom nose had been issued and general granger issued order journal number 3 theres a lot of. Things around how that exactly happened but june when he issued the order and the relevance of juneteenth is that it completes the cycle of freedom to celebrations of freedom and 776. 00 black people even though we fought in the revolutionary war where he was in a revolutionary war we were still slaves it took 88 years you lived months in about 22 days before granger issued general order number 3 and still that wasnt june 14th 1966 when the treaty was sorry with the 5 tribes to we still are slaves and make them part of the nation so june to the combination of things to happen on june 10th its more than just texas always has been its been to texas. If one of the things that we forgot is that there is this idea once the emancipation proclamation happened just the whole United States got the text and then everything was fine it was a very different world down there not just from people deciding they werent going to listen to the emancipation proclamation but quite literally information getting around well now were in this age where information is very quickly you know moved around for activism purposes you know we get information very quickly and things happen and yet here we are june teen that seems a very important part of our American History of a very you know. Critical role its still not a National Holiday its not a major day where we take that time you know its still something that feels like its its its sort of brought up there some 46 states do have it as a holiday. Why why do you how many sorry about observance there about a servant actually already for 2 of them its a holiday as of today the state of pennsylvania with our regional director there are signed to be 0. And make it into a holiday from Different Services thats great why and as i said look this slow work to get it here. You are and thats a great one where i say why is it important that its a national day of observance why is it important for our as a nation that we actually look at continue. As i stated before it closes the cycle the celebration of freedom ok. Everybody is not free. To everybody is free none are free until everybody is free and so juneteenth commemorates that time for did indeed slavery in america and start a new chapter which every day that you call it or so its there for closure we would need to have in order to go forward in america oks to bring everybody together to bring the unity together to bring peace in coordination between all the different fashions you have to address the issue of this when mark time in america that ending the slavery is not saying everything was fixed everything was good Going Forward but its a starting point and. I was it to say its sort of what you said its like the thing of its a process theres this idea i mean you see a huge. There is there is the time when you know america became a sort of you know we 1st landed here we have slavery then theres a huge chunk of time when you look at a timeline of what happened and you see that theres also you know the jim crow era segregation and all of these things do you feel like weve made it to that point or is this a journey that were still on as americans going toward freedom what we are or the journey were still war we have to be able to let every american have liberty the 13 to 14 to 15 to minute the civil rights of them devoted rights of all been set upon so that we can have the same course of action to everyone else but the real problem is that we dont have the liberty to exercise bills freedoms that we have been legislated so thats you know the freedom to walk down the street without be. Salted by Law Enforcement is a serious encroachments upon our liberty and wanted to keep things to america was Patrick Henry give me liberty give me death that we need when we need and in celebration a juneteenth will help bring about that liberty this is because you know when you look at Something Like this i think its easy for us to kind of forget the importance of you know days you know holidays not just its not about you know where we go and celebrate but its also just remembering the meaning of the holiday and the meaning behind it and why were there and i think its easy for us because you see you know arguments going on capitol hill this week and things like that over even like reparations things like that but i think a lot of that comes because people forget their own history very quickly of this country or at least power in this country for gets its own history and wants to move on does juneteenth will that help us if wed like you say as a as a National Holiday that is observed its talked about that we celebrate every year does that help remind us of this history so that we dont repeat it though so that we can move beyond the desk has. Purpose for having a national day of observance in the in the in the legislation its called flag day and we are understand what the flag code is we understand how to treat American Flag juneteenth with that type of push behind it can help educate america about the status of black people in america the contributions that we made and hopefully bring us closer together oh how tough is that fight back for you i mean its great to hear that 46 states you know at least observe it but we still have that next level of the federal government how tough was the fight to try to get the observers the holiday state to state and do all of this what we saw abraded our 25th anniversary just friday in new orleans and it was. A fabulous man by the name of reverend ronald d. Myers senior m. D. Who led the charge here he was did an issue of their 1st apology in 1990 right he worked on legislation a 1st date was delaware Bernie Wilkins and we just finished montana up this past year to defy has been difficult at times but we are not going to give up because of your portions of america to understand the relevance of juneteenth and its history is just as an important day for to do why. Do you feel that you know where when you talk to people every day americans you know theyre sort of split one half is this you know were past racism where past all of us you know we we dont need to keep remembering or you know this idea that we have moved past this idea of race and reposts racial country and you know the other half or says nothing has changed and that were still in that what is it what are the things that you know educators parents you know people can do whats the best way to observe june 13th what are the things that we should make say as educators as journalists or anybody whatever the point that we should be making and how best do we do that. Well the best way to observe the juneteenth is as we will request for people to learn about our history learn about your history in action because education is the 1st key thing and. Dave the conversations with people in america varies really upon the demographics younger people are less or concerned about more of these things but is still relevant or not we did not aware of the relevant set of plates in their day to day interactions and as you move up the scale you find more attention is paid towards it. So its very we need to address the problem in a systematic way and by observation juneteenth and developing a program that everybody can get to know and understand and recognize the contributions of africanamericans people are american descent former slaves that work here in america to better would be off as a country i think thats incredible i think its on my part now one of the things we always talk about a michaux is understanding your own history even if its uncomfortable like thats not thats the stuff you should be learning if it makes you uncomfortable thats probably what you should be reading and probably what you should be paying attention to engine teams as one of those that i wish was much more mainstream and as we see it but its become so much more over the last few years so youre 5 you guys are fighting really hard and its working because its getting out there on a day we had a record year this year we really appreciate going to june to nation everyone got out raised our flags did Education Programs worked of all the people in your community to explain to him about the true essence of the meaning the juneteenth all the nation i really appreciate you all god bless you we appreciate the work that you and everyone else is doing thank you so much our Steve Williams president of the national. Vision thank you so much for coming out there certain educate the audience on that important day. Thank you very much all right as we go to break watchers dont forget to let us know what you think of a fight between coverage of facebook and twitter and see our poll shows at our t. V. Here in washington d. C. There are 177 Foreign Diplomatic Missions or embassy is within the city limits and greater do you see we have over 400 International Association about 100 academic institutions and over 1000 foreign arent companies and every one of those foreign national. Foreign born or foreign employed people at those places could be a spy thats right according to the International Spy museum there are at any one time 10000 spies in the u. S. Capitol however these arent your grandmas shaking their martinis and hiding in shadows brian to going to system special agent in charge of counterintelligence for the f. B. I. s Washington Field office told w t o p news a spy is nondescript a spy is going to be someone thats going to be a student in school a visiting professor your neighbor it could be a colleague or someone that shares the soccer field with you. Probably isnt this cloak and dagger some would have you believe in fact most of these guys arent the 7 of your dreams and nightmares they are hiding in your bushes or tapping your phone thats the n. Was reading made a fairly important point when spies tell you how many spies there are coming to get you that the russians and the chinese are up to steal our american dreamz from our slumbering bodies try to remember too little important one everyone spies on our allies just as much as their enemies and to those telling you theres a spy under every bed are the very people spying on you in the 1st thing that is true that is incredibly true all the spies are gonna getcha. The United States government does more spying on the American People than any foreign born or and spy embedded here working. In fact the cia and the f. B. I. Have somewhere estimated around the United States at any one time as over 100000. 00 people worldwide operating as. Spies. People get a better understanding. By segment were doing today just so people get a better understanding of spying i would like to go over the most common types of spies here and. Species of spies currently. Exist that could be. A researcher fellow at the Heritage Foundation a special Army Special Forces officer told Popular Mechanics but you speak about embassy spies in particular when these embassy spies are at their jobs the rest of their time they spend wandering around washington d. C. Trying to make contact with people who they can get to share information these are the people that work at embassies that also try to go out and get obviously just wandering about going out to people going do you have information either information it was worthless you could have information. During about the survey i had no idea they were just wandering about i thought those were. Secret agents the more rare kinds of spies on the spy spectrum are knox and o. C. Used for not official cover a list of anyone watching Mission Impossible these are spies posing as businessmen journalists students things like that then of course you have sleeper cells these are you know spies with Fake Identities like that show the americans yes like these are the americans yes and then lastly you have you know. Traitor the american traitor the Benedict Arnold yes the u. S. Citizen who is. Another country the rosenberg. Going back to all the famous spies of that day you know theres your model haris and then you have your rosenberg say you some people are just selling things so you know another people are trying to get it some people are putting on this whole thing and i think theres a us idea that spies are glamorous and sexy but scary like its all double a 7 is great the fact that he steals and kills for a foreign empire that doesnt stop me just let it go its entertaining if it looks like sean connery or Pierce Brosnan when its all right in our book yeah not very much honestly those are probably right here favorite by. The book heroes theres a thing that gets me is that you know if were really worried about the estimate of what like 10000 of them with and with and yeah if were really worried about people getting hold of like top secret documents will meet with the u. S. Shouldnt make everything top secret i mean. It was like 60 some odd 1000000 documents are considered top secret 90 may be right and ill tell you why thats fine number so high if we have so if theres all those documents and all those all those documents are considered top secret or classified you need a lot of people to process those documents you do yes you do and thats how we end up with a huge amount of people who have top secret clearance so you have. What did what was the estimate it was. Like 800000 even a 1000000 people a 1000000 different Government Employees or peoples access to the contractors are given top secret security clearances thats incredible but the fact is there are a 1000000 contractors out there with all of this that we may or may not know and fact that every leak if youre so concerned about these leaks the National Security well you keep getting things leaked by contractors that you hire or people that are working for you that have this clearance and maybe dont have a 1000000 people with clearance and keep your secrets a little more even being a little iffy gulbarga im not saying you cant take naked pictures of yourself im just saying maybe dont put them on the cloud so part of its this idea of not having you know as many. Options also theres a huge we have such technology but we know how to use it hiring people and so they have access to things are going to get leaked things are going to happen i think part of the reason why this whole 5 thing is become very sexy again a very big a summary of a teen ok and to me shes always going to be the spy who wasnt she was never a spy ok she was charge of the crime of conspiring 1st of all the some people are conspiring to infiltrate conservative u. S. Political groups without proper registration that was her crime by the way she didnt steal top secret blueprints arrival at that officials she did 2 things and heres the world the spying when you start looking at especially the women all the famous female spies are supposed to scare us the model car is all about terror over right red sparrow theres this whole thing there are 2 things that maria between a dead that made her the easy target for free mongers one she was progun and 2 she had sex with high level republican operatives thats the only reason that she was important she didnt do anything she didnt sell anything so my whole thing is if youre going to throw a spy of me at least sure they did something other than what happened is that the end of the day right right is really understanding of the difference between spies and asked vienna and a foreign lobbying and all of these. And not by. The great real life political thriller taking place in venezuela just added one more twist to its already labyrinth being plucked it appears that one weibo the United States and horse leader seeking to depose the colonel at the president of venezuela that was with him so when a sticky situation involving embezzle moon yes the scandal involving the misuse of aid money by his subordinates for more on this past moving stories our 2 americas john harvey.
