Hello, everyone. Welcome to the bayview bistro. [cheers and applause] i am San Francisco mayor london breed, and i have to tell you, first of all, when it is hot in San Francisco, it is hot in the bayview. [laughter] i mean, really hot. On a regular basis in the bayview, and potrero hill neighborhood and the mission, we know that those are the hotspots in San Francisco. I just came from the sunset and it is hot in the sunset. I knew it was going to be even hotter in the bayview. Im really excited to be here today because nothing brings the Community Together like food, and here is an Incredible Opportunity to really not only enjoyed the Delicious Food provided by some amazing vendors , but this is also an opportunity for the community to come together. When i was growing up in San Francisco, we had food houses. Remember . We could go to somebodys house and buy some nachos or some chicken or some banana pudding, but times have changed. We dont have the grandmothers and the folks who are the ones that were taking care of the community the same way that we do now. Things have changed. The community has changed a lot. We know the Bayview Hunters Point Community has a thriving africanamerican population here , a community filled with love and excitement, and the need for us to come together for occasions like this. Especially because we know that as there is a lot of work that is happening in the Bayview Hunters Point Community, there are a lawsuit also a lot of people working in this community , a lot of People Living in this community. Having amazing food options for and by the people of this communities critical to the success, the longterm success and stability of the Bayview Hunters Point Community. I cited eight. [cheers and applause] if youre from Hunters Point and you dont know harold, you are not from Hunters Point. We have sold bowl. [cheers and applause] and we have yes, putting. With all things sweet. So today is really about making sure that we support them and we support what they are trying to do here for the community. There are a lot of folks who are going to be working on the sewage plants and other projects we just broke ground on one of the Public Safety buildings that is not too far from here, so i was just thinking to myself, what was that building that we just broke ground on, the forensic building and some other something, the Traffic Company. Thank you. Anyway, we were breaking ground over there and i said i wonder where all these workers are going to eat. Where are the restaurants . So we have cafe envy, we have other places here and we want to make sure that, you know, we know that there are places to go to to eat in the Bayview Hunter s point, places to hang out in the community and our goal is to do everything we can to make the right investments so that this community continues to thrive. I want to thank all of you for being here today to support these incredible businesses and thank you to harland kelley kelly with the Public Utilities commission for having the foresight to know that it is not just about rebuilding and investing in our infrastructure and making sure that the communities part of these projects, it is also about investing in other things that play a Critical Role to support this amazing community. With that, another amazing supporter of the Bayview Hunter s Point Community who used to be your supervisor and is now Public Utilities commission are, ladies and gentlemen, sophie maxwell. [cheers and applause] thank you. What a day. What an amazing day in San Francisco. Any time it is warm, i mean, i never get to wear sleeveless clothes. Im always scared to death because i feel the wind will come up any minute. But i can relax. We can relax and be warm in this beautiful space. Im really proud to be a commissioner. Thank you so much. I thought it, but it is a great thing because the p. U. C. Is sponsoring this. These are the kinds of things that San FranciscoPublic Utilities commission is doing. Theyre doing it because they feel they have a responsibility to san franciscans and to people in this community. It is a place where we can connect, where we can laugh, where we can talk about issues and politics, and 45 and kentucky and everything else. We can talk here and this is a good thing. We dont have any banks to wait in line anymore. You are in the bank used to talk to people about things, that is gone. Walgreens, used to meet people at walgreens, well, that is gone , and so we have this and this is where we will connect. I want to thank all of you and i want to thank our partners. I want to think people who have a vision, you understand that, yes, while you are building in the programs, while you are building the sewage plant, there were other things. There are other places and people around you, and that these people have come to the conclusion that is part of their responsibility to help us live and thrive in this community. I want to thank the p. U. C. And i want to thank all of those people who helped make this possible. And now i get introduced one of my most favorite people. One of my most favorite people, that is Shamann Walton because he will make sure that this continues and it will be bigger and better. Shamann walton, supervisor Shamann Walton. [cheers and applause] thank you, supervisor maxwell good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to bayview, and as our mayor said, and we always let everyone know, where the sun is always shining in bayview, california. This is an exciting time. Is a look around and see a lot of our Business Owners up and down the third streetcar door, and one of our main focuses is to make sure we have a vibrant corridor where businesses get to thrive, not only for folks in the community, because we want to make sure we have a place to go like supervisor maxwell explained, so we can talk, we can spend time with our families right here in our own community, but we also want to make bayview a destination place. We want folks to come from all over San Francisco, from all over the bay area to enjoy the culture, to enjoy the businesses , to enjoy the food that we have right here in our own community. So as we look at our own businesses activating space outside and an atmosphere like this, that is an exciting thing for us. That is something that we should all be celebrating and be excited about. I want to thank everyone for coming over today and spending time to get to know our Business Owners who i will introduce in a minute, but i also want to talk about the public, private community partnership. As you know, the Sewer System Improvement Program is coming. Theres going to be lots of construction, lots of change in our community, and Community Benefits were something that we fought hard to make sure happened for our community. Working with the p. U. C. , working with the joint Venture Partners, we got the resources to make sure that this space was activated, that our businesses were going to be able to thrive because of all of the opportunities that are on the way to this community, and we want to continue to be supportive of all of that. I want to thank our joint Venture Partners and thank the p. U. C. , i want to thank the office of economic and workforce development, i want to thank Larry Mcquillan for his hard work on this corridor. [applause] we pushed larry very hard. I want to thank andrea Baker Consulting for all of her work on activating this space. [cheers and applause] she has been working hard to make sure that we have places like this in our community. If you look at this is really towards the front of the gateway into bayview, and if you continue up the corridor, we have another space like all good pizza. All these places are right here that are Community Assets and we all have to remember to patronize. I dont want to just see you all here today as we have this opening ceremony, i want to see you supporting harold, supporting nema, supporting . Asia on a daily basis, on a weekly basis consistently. That peace is important. We need you here every day and not just for a ribboncutting in the grand opening ceremonies. With that said, i do have the pleasure and the honor of introducing the stars of bayview bistro, first will hear from nema romney, a San Francisco native. They have a food truck with a latin twist and then we will hear from harold big h. And then we will hear from mr. Johnson, a San Francisco native and owner of yes, putting putting putting pudding we want to make it easier for Small Businesses to thrive in San Francisco, especially along the corridor here in district ten. With that said, i want to bring up nema romney. Thank you. [applause] thank you, everyone. I first want to say thank you for coming. Out i wrote a script, so have patience with me. My name is nema romney, i have been a native of San Francisco all my life. I would first like to thank our mayor for taking out her busy schedule to come down and support us. [applause] in no specific order, i also like to thank the p. U. C. , oewd, brown and cobb caldwell, black and fitch, salt wash, jacob engineering, and emerson. Last but never least, i would like to thank andrea baker and peugeot, without their opportunity a would not be standing here today. [applause] i opened so bull october 27th, 2017 with the joys and dreams of becoming a business owner. I have bounced around San Francisco because of the permit process that San Francisco has in place. So when andrea reached out to me , i could not resist. My grandmother has lived in i have lived in bayview all my life. Have patience. So the decision to be part of bayview was not hard to make at all. We are facing our challenges, but with the support and the help of our community, as well as bayview with big h. , i hope we have high hopes that high dreams of how far this space can go. Again, i like to thank our mayor , im like to thank everyone for coming out, and i see my son back there in the back. Love you so much. Thank you for coming to support your mom, as well. [cheers and applause] hello, everyone. My name is harold. I own big h. Barbecue. Born and raised in San Francisco , bayview. I have been kicking for a long time with my grandfather, my mom , its been a beautiful thing i want to thank you all for coming out and supporting us. Bayview bistro got me out here and it has been a beautiful thing. Getting my foot in the door, trying to move up and go farther places to support my family a little bit better. I wouldnt be able to do it without you all here. Miss mayor, thank you so much. I appreciate it. [applause] hello. I own a desert business where i create a variety of putting desserts. It all started with banana pudding but has evolved into everything. Stop by my booth to learn more about my business. I would like to thank andrea baker for giving me this opportunity to grow my business here. Being here will allow me to serve customers, gain more customers and just gain the experience that i need to own and operate a business. Thank you. Thank you to the mayor for coming out and supporting, and thank you to bayview for their continued support. [cheers and applause] all right. It is time to eat, people. [laughter] it is time to order up the barbecue and the desserts and everything in between. Make sure, as was said earlier, that you not only show up today for the opening, but you continue to come back and support these incredible entrepreneurs who are part of the fabric of what makes the bayview Hunters Point such a special community in our great city. Thank you for being here today. Enjoy yourselves. [cheers and applause] shop and dine on the 49 promotes local businesses and challenges residents to do shopping and dining within the 49 square miles of San Francisco by supporting local Services Within neighborhood. We help San Francisco remain unique, successful and vibrant. Where will you shop and dine in the 49 . San francisco owes the charm to the unique character of the neighborhood comer hall district. Each corridor has its own personality. Our neighborhoods are the engine of the city. You are putting money and support back to the community you live in and you are helping Small Businesses grow. It is more environmentally friendly. Shopping local is very important. I have had relationships with my local growers for 30 years. By shopping here and supporting us locally, you are also supporting the growers of the flowers, they are fresh and they have a price point that is not imported. It is really good for everybody. Shopping locally is crucial. Without that support, Small Business cant survive, and if we lose Small Business, that diversity goes away, and, you know, it would be a shame to see that become a thing of the past. It is important to dine and shop locally. It allows us to maintain traditions. It makes the neighborhood. I think San Francisco should shop local as much as they can. The retail marketplace is changes. We are trying to have people on the floor who can talk to you and help you with products you are interested in buying, and help you with exploration to try things you have never had before. The fish business, you think it is a piece of fish and fisherman. There are a lot of people working in the fish business, between wholesalers and fishermen and bait and tackle. At the retail end, we about a lot of people and it is good for everybody. Shopping and dining locally is so important to the community because it brings a tighter fabric to the community and allows the Business Owners to thrive in the community. We see more Small Businesses going away. We need to shop locally to keep the Small Business alive in San Francisco. Shop and dine in the 49 is a cool initiative. You can see the banners in the streets around town. It is great. Anything that can showcase and legitimize Small Businesses is a legitimize Small Businesses is a hello, everybody. I am london breed, mayor of the city and county of San Francisco , and im really excited to join you here today, but i tell you that no one is more excited than the parents of the kids who will be returning to school on monday. And today is an opportunity to us to really get the word out to people all over San Francisco that we have thousands of kids who are returning to school on monday. We will see kids walking, we will see them by king, we will see them on buses and yes, some of them will get dropped off by parents in their car. But ultimately, we want everyone will get around this city safely because there will be more people out on the streets now than ever before as a school began on monday. So a part of today is really about highlighting the awareness that we need people to slow down we need people to be aware. We need people to do better. We have had sadly a number of tragedies that have occurred on our city streets and we know, unfortunately, that has a lot to do sometimes with speed. We need to slow down. Yes, i have asked the chief to increase citations, and to be aware in this high injury corridors, the need to make sure that there are consequences for people who are speeding, which sadly can cause tragedy. If a pedestrian is hit by a driver at 20 Miles Per Hour, their risk of fatality is 5 , but if that is 30 Miles Per Hour , their risk jumps to 45 . What we dont want to continue is sadly what we see happening on our streets where we are losing far too many lives, and our most precious assets are our children, so we want to make sure that when they are moving around San Francisco, going back to school, that they are safe. When i was a kid, i went to School Across the street from where i lived. It used to be called but the name is now rosa parks elementary school. What was so cool about that is we would all just walk to school someone would walk up to my window, yell my name, there would already be three or four kids. We would get to the corner on eddie and buchanan, and then there was a crossing guard right there to make sure that all cars stopped so we could safely get across the streets and move on our way to get to school. I never realized how valuable that was until i became an adult and i see so many kids that are out there trying to get to school. We were also taught to look both ways before crossing the street. We also have to get back to some basics. This year we have hired more crossing guards and we want to thank the folks who are joining us here today for your service and for your commitment to making sure that people get around our streets safely. We also, as i said, we have the chief here. We will be placing additional enforcement in certain areas, and so i just want to also ask drivers to do better to stop texting, to stop making phone calls, to stop making looking at your phones when youre driving on our streets, to slow down, and to look both ways and to be very careful when you are navigating the streets of San Francisco to follow the laws. The stop signs, the crosswalks, and all of those things are there for a reason. It is to keep all of us safe. The protected bike lanes are there to make sure that by his bicyclists are safe, the people walking across the streets are safe, that people are moving. This is all about safety. This is all about highlighting the need for us as a safety to do much more than we have in the past so that we can truly realize the goals of vision zero , and that is no fatalities of any kind in this city because of traffic or cars or what have you. At this time, i would like to introduce the supervisor that represents this district, represents marine at middle school where there will be a lot of kids here first thing monday. Supervisor catherine stefani. Thank you. I love the middle school. It is so beautiful. I want to thank everyone, especially mayor breed and the students, parents, and city leadership who were able to make it out today as well as crossing guards. The most important people in the morning when were dropping our kids off at school who really did the important work of making sure our students are safe in our communities. My son just started high school on wednesday and my daughter is starting fifthgrade next week and i dropped dominic off at high school on his first day. I insisted i did it. And besides saying to me, mom, dont say anything weird when you dropped me off, this people around, i said to him, look both ways. It is on a busy street. He is still 14 years old and still telling my child, be careful when his crossing the street considering how dangerous our streets can be. As we kick off the new school year, as we all know, hit and runs and collisions between pedestrians and bicyclists and be at vehicles are way too common in San Francisco. Nearly every Community Meeting i have been to recently, neighbors have voiced support force crating safer streets and sidewalks and i definitely share this goal. It is our collective responsibility to make sure our streets and sidewalks are safe and secure for families who are walking, for those who are driving, and for those who are riding their bikes to school. We know we all have work to do when it comes to making sure our kids are safe. I know i can always do better out there when you get to a stop sign, count to three, dont open a door before looking before for a bicycle and always be aware, dont take calls when you were driving, just like mayor breed said. We can all do much better. I am so proud to join chief scott and his department who performed a Traffic Safety enforcement list earlier this month. I am grat glad i didnt get a ticket. Interim director mcguire who continues to work with their communities and crating safe and Sustainable Transportation options, and marine, who has been an advocate for students and pedestrians across our city. And of course, again, mayor breed was continue to shine a light on transit safety and has worked towards creating a safer San Francisco for all of our students. As we begin our school year, lets all recommit ourselves to making our commute to and from school safer. I look forward to working with mayor breed and my colleagues on the board of supervisors, our department heads, and families and all of our School Communities to further our shared vision for a safer San Francisco. Thank you so much. [applause]. Thank you, supervisor. At this time, i would like to introduce our police chief, bill scott. [applause]. Thank you, mayor. Thank you. Good morning, everyone. First of all, let me say thank you to the mayor and supervisor stefani for their leadership on traffic and pedestrian safety. Backtoschool is an exciting time. It is exciting, it is a lot of work and we want to start with this. Slow down a little bit. Slow down. The mayor mentioned it earlier. Speed kills. In terms of the focus of the violations that we concentrate on the most, we are trying to get people to slow down. As the mayor stated and supervisor stefani stated, we are going to be out doing enforcement. I want to also think the mayor and the supervisor because what allows us to get better at this is the generous support of our budget this year. Last year the mayor signed a budget, and this year she signed a budget that included continuing our hiring plan. What that has allowed us to do is increase the size of our Traffic Company and our motorcycle officers. We have at least ten more motorcycle officers then we do this time last year thanks to the mayors leadership on the budget and the supervisor stefanis leadership on the budget. What that means is we are able to do more enforcement and get people to slow down and save lives. What that looks like in the First Six Months of 2019, we have had 19 light armed forces operations, we have head sting and decoy operations, pedestrian sting and decoy operations, we have had a bike lane enforcement operation, we have initiated over 2301 vehicle traffic stops through the office of Traffic Safety grant operations, we have issued almost 100 citations just for holding a cell phone in your hand. I mentioned this at last years press conference, that is a big issue for us. People driving in our city while theyre talking on the cell phone or texting or distracted otherwise, and that is a big issue. Will be focusing on that as well we sighted almost 75 of these operations just for citations for texting while driving, which is very dangerous. The bottom line on this is enforcement is only one part of the puzzle. We have tom maguire up here with this with us, we have crossing guards, this is really a Community Effort and a community event. We really need the communitys support and your support to get the message out. Slow down, pay attention, be careful because our kids mean so much to us. Save lives. Thank you very much, mayor and supervisor stefani for your leadership, and thank you all for being here. [applause] thank you, chief. Another important part of making our streets safer is improving our infrastructure. Now i know that sometimes this can be a bit of a tugofwar because we have protected bike lanes that we need to install, and sometimes that would require the removal of parking, and we have changes to the way that we need to develop our city moving forward to because because when you think about it, you know, 20 years ago, you didnt see as many people cycling, and now you have people using that as a primary mode of transportation. That is not only protecting our environment, but it is also keeping people healthy and it is also making sure that the buses are less crowded and less people are driving. So as we make these improvements to our infrastructure, the goal is safety. It is about making sure that everyone knows where they should be when theyre on the road in order to keep people safe. So the m. T. A. Is charged with the responsibility of helping us to reconfigure San Francisco as a place that used to focus mostly on developing our streets for cars, and now it is time to develop the streets for the future and that includes cars, walking, busing, and biking in all of those things in between, his the person who is leading the m. T. A. At this time is the acting director, tom mcguire. [applause] thank you for drawing the connection between the changes we see on our streets and the choices that all of us make every day about how we get around San Francisco. Our goal is to make everyone feel like it is safe for kids to be able to walk to school or bike to school or get to school on the bus. The 190 crossing guards will be out on the street this week. They are here with one thing in mind, that is the safety of the children of San Francisco. We have been doing a lot of work this summer to prepare the city for a safe start to the school year. We read striped 90 of the crosswalks around schools around the city. Weve got troopers, we got transit assistance staff who ride the bus with her high school and medicals middle School Students to make sure they are safe as they navigate the city, and we are ready for a safe start to the school year however you get around. The m. T. A. Has got something for you to keep you safe. We are grateful for the support of the mayor and supervisor stefani. All the citys elected officials for the goal of vision zero to end traffic fatalities in the city. Thank you. [applause]. Thank you. We have a very special guest. The ladies of the westside waves are here today and speaking on behalf of the team is maureen. [applause] hi. My name is maureen and i am here today because five months ago on march 15th, my friend was struck by a car and died ten days later, so i have normal memories of eighth grade. I remember my eighth grade play, spending iron hours on my science fair project and studding from a big math test, but i also remember coming in late to my homeroom when i saw my teacher crying. I remember my team and i knew madeline was in the hospital because she was 14 and of course, she was going to wake up i clearly remember spending my eighth grade graduation holding in my tears after her memorial because i didnt want to ruin my mascara. When someone dies, especially such a bright light like mandelman, a community suffers. And knowing she died in a way that is utterly human and utterly preventable makes it so much more heartbreaking. Our city has a problem and it is killing people. With all the statistics and initiatives going around, this is easily the site of the real impact madelyns parents, or siblings, your parents and her teammates were left behind, trying and failing to move on. I am so grateful we have the support of so many of our city leaders. We got some of the change we asked for, but it is not enough. It will not be enough until this stops happening. We cannot lose sight of what happens of what matters. We have to remember what we as a city lose. We can end this. We will end this. Thank you. [applause] thank you for really putting it into perspective of why we need to do better. So thank you to everyone who is here today. Please keep in mind this is a changing city, it is a growing city. We have a lot more people who are out there on the streets, on the roads walking, so please be careful. So we also will be out there and enforcing the rules of the road, and just keep in mind that there are a lot of people out there on the streets and your kids are out there, your mother is out there, your family members are out there, so just think about that when you are out there driving around and you get distracted by a phone call. That phone call can wait. What is so what is so pressing that you have to reach for your phone, which could risk the possibility of an accident, and the importance of today is really to shine a light on our need to be back here in San Francisco, to make sure that not one more tragedy happens on the streets of our city. Thank you all for getting the word out, thank you for being here, lets do better so that kids that are going to school on monday can have a great day and they can enjoy themselves and laugh, and play, and smile, and make it home safely to tell their parents about what an amazing first day of school they had. Thank you so much for being here [applause] when i open up the paper every day im just amazed at how many different Environmental Issues keep popping up. When i think about the planet i want to leave for my children and other generation, i think of what contribution i can make on a personal level to the environment. Clean power sf is San Franciscos key way of fighting Climate Change by Renewable Energy and offering it to San Francisco customers. Im from the San FranciscoPublic Utilities commission. The program came about with state wide legislation in 2002 to enable people to take more control over supplies. I first heard of the program when the organization was advocating to launch clean power sf. What im most excited about, its going to bring 100 Renewable Energy to my home and reinvest into Renewable Energy infrastructure and jobs. I had gone to a lot of street fairs and heard from the staff at the San FranciscoPublic Utilities commission to sign up for clean power sf even before it launched. We learned about clean power sf because our Sustainability Team is always looking for clean operations. Linkedin is the Largest Online network. There are about 530 million members using our site. In this San Francisco office theres about 1400 employees working in roughly 400,000 square feet. After signing up for the program we heard about the San Francisco program and learned they had commercial rates and signed up for that. Im the coowner of the new wheel electric bike shop. We opened this store in 2012 and the new wheel sells and services electric bikes. 11 people work here in San Francisco and our store is about 2,000 square feet. Electric bikes are fantastic for transportation in the city, theyre clean and green and you get places faster than any other form of transportation. It amplifies the power, it doesnt replace it. It makes it easier to get places by bicycle and its so enjoyable and environmentally friendly way to go and more convenient in San Francisco. Clean power sf requires two products, green, 40 renewable and competitively priced with pg and e. For those who want to fight Climate Change more, 100 renewable at 0. 02 per kilawatt. I decided to go with the super greens, after finding it only to cost about 5 more a month to have super green, thats a nobrainer, i can do that. We were pleased that clean power sf offers the super green 100 for commercial entities like ours and residents for the city of San Francisco. We were pleased with the package of services for linkedin and now encouraging our employees who have a residence in San Francisco to sign on as well. Clean power sf buys its power from renewable plants that feed the energy directly into the grid. Theres a commitment to sustainability throughout the entire organization and this clean power opportunity reflects that. One of the wind farms we use is the shilo wind farm and that is large enough to be able to provide energy for up to 200,000 homes. Our mission is sustainability, even though our bikes are Minimal Energy use, it Still Matters where the energy comes from and part of our mission in sustainability is how we run everything run our business. Having the lights come on with clean energy is very important. The Sunset Reservoir has solar panels that take up about four city blocks covering the reservoir and the solar power generates energy for city resources and clean power sf for residents participating in the program. It was easy to sign up for the program, i went online to cleanpowersf. Org and i started getting pieces in the mail letting me know i was going to be switched over and it just happened. When i pay my bill, i still go to pg and e and i dont see any difference between now and a year ago. Sign up online, just have your account number ready and it takes about two minutes and theres nothing to install. No lines are getting connected to your home. All the power goes through the existed power grid. We havent had any problems with the switch over to clean power. Its super easy to sign up. Our book keeper signed up online, it took about 15 minutes. Nothing changed but now we have cleaner energy. We see clean power sf as a key strategy to meet Renewable Energy goal, we have a goal of 50 Renewable Energy by 2020. Currently we have enrolled about 86,000 customers across the city. About 20 of what we hope to serve in the future and in the next two years well offer service to all San Francisco electricity customers. An easy way to align your environmental responsibilities and goals around Climate Change and its so easy that its hard to not want to do it and it doesnt really add anything to the bill. Joining clean power sf is one of the easiest ways to fight Climate Change, receiving cleaner energy at low and stable rates, youre helping to support a not for profit that helps influence the energy grid and produce more production. I would encourage any business to seriously convert to the clean sf service. Its good for environment, business and the community. You can sign up online our call and the great thing is, youll have the peace of mind that youre doing your part in your household to help the environment. 7 and a half million renovation is part of the clean and safe Neighbors Park Fund which was on the ballot four years ago and look at how that Public Investment has transformed our neighborhood. The playground is unique in that it serves a number of age groups, unlike many of the other properties, it serves small children with the childrens play grounds and clubhouses that has basketball courts, it has an outdoor soccer field and so there were a lot of people that came to the table that had their wish list and we did our best to make sure that we kind of divided up spaces and made sure that we kept the old features of the playground but we were able to enhance all of those features. The playground and the soccer field and the tennis fields and it is such a key part of this neighborhood. We want kids to be here. We want families to be here and we want people to have athletic opportunities. We are given a real responsibility to insure that the publics money is used appropriately and that something really special comes of these projects. We generally have about an opportunity every 50 years to redo these spaces. And it is really, really rewarding to see children and families benefit, you know, from the change of culture, at each one of these properties and as a result of, what you see behind us, more kids are playing on our soccer fields than ever before. We have more girls playing sports than we have ever had before. [ applause ] fp and we are sending a strong message that San Francisco families are welcome and we want you to stay. This park is open. I went through a lot of struggles in my life, and i am blessed to be part of this. I am familiar with what people are going through to relate and empathy and compassion to their struggle so they can see i came out of the struggle, it gives them hope to come up and do something positive. I am a community ambassador. We work a lot with homeless, visitors, a lot of people in the area. What i like doing is posting up at hotspots to let people see visibility. They ask you questions, ask you directions, they might have a question about what services are available. Checking in, you guys. Wellness check. We walk by to see any individual, you know may be sitting on the sidewalk, we make sure they are okay, alive. You never know. Somebody might walk by and they are laying there for hours. You never know if they are alive. We let them know we are in the area and we are here to promote safety, and if they have somebody that is, you know, hanging around that they dont want to call the police on, they dont have to call the police. They can call us. We can direct them to the services they might need. We do the three one one to keep the city neighborhoods clean. There are people dumping, waste on the ground and needles on the ground. It is unsafe for children and adults to commute through the streets. When we see them we take a picture dispatch to 311. They give us a tracking number and they come later on to pick it up. We take pride. When we come back later in the day and we see the loose trash or debris is picked up it makes you feel good about what you are doing. It makes you feel did about escorting kids and having them feel safe walking to the play area and back. The stuff we do as ambassadors makes us feel proud to help keep the city clean, helping the residents. You can see the community ambassadors. I used to be on the streets. I didnt think i could become a community ambassador. It was too far out there for me to grab, you know. Doing this job makes me feel good. Because i came from where a lot of them are, homeless and on the street, i feel like i can give them hope because i was once there. I am not afraid to tell them i used to be here. I used to be like this, you know. I have compassion for people that are on the streets like the homeless and people that are caught up with their addiction because now, i feel like i can give them hope. It reminds you every day of where i used to be and where i am at now. San francisco and oakland are challenging each other in a battle for the bay. Two cities. One bay. San francisco versus oakland.
