Please stay home. Please take care of yourself, so its my true honor to welcome you here tonight to the 40th annual San Francisco Good Government awards. [applause] this is our opportunity to pay tribute to the people who are the great engine of our beloved city. Since its inception, s. P. U. R. Has been advocating for Good Governments. We have hundreds of awards given out to acknowledge hundreds of hard working Public Servants, and we are so proud of that. For many of us who are part of s. P. U. R. , this is our absolute favorite night of the year, so thank you for joining us. I want to start out by recognizing our champion sponsors, people who believe in innovation in government just as much as we do. Bridge, google, and San Francisco airport. Thank you for your generous support, and thanks to everyone for being here tonight. S. P. U. R. Is able to continue to honor employees only because of the collaboration with the Mayors Office, london n. Breed. Mayor breed is the 45 mayor of our city, and the only African American woman mayor in the history of our city. [applause] she has served numerous roles in her career, including president of the board of supervisors, supervisor of district five, School District board, and fire commission, cleaning the streets, and making the city a more equitable place for all of its residents. You may be the second female mayor of San Francisco, but you are making sure you are not the last. Please join me in welcoming the honorable mayor breed. [applause] the hon. London breed thank you, fran. Thank you for that introduction. I wanted to add to that introduction, that there was a time that i was not only a city employee, but i was an intern here in city hall. I was naomi kelly, now her intern, and so i truly understand how important the work is that you all do, and oftentimes, we know that you dont do it to be recognized, you do it because you love the work, you love the opportunity to make something better. We know, and i want to take this opportunity to recognize Assembly Member david chu. Thank you so much for being here. [applause] the hon. London breed you see the newspapers, and you know there are some good things and sometimes not so good things. But as elected officials, both david and i can attest, we take all the credit for all the work that you do because thats mostly what politicians do. Thats what we do, right, david . But at the end of the day, its really about all of us coming together and working together, and s. P. U. R. Understands the need to focus on policy and the decisions that get make through collaboration and our private businesses to address transportation challenges, housing affordability, equity, and many of those issues. In order to do that, we must partner, we must work hard and come up with Creative Solutions to make it happen. Thats where all of you come in. You help to organize and prepare and move forward with those Creative Solutions. And as i said, sometimes you hear a lot about some of the notsogreat things in the newspaper about government, but the things that were talking about tonight, the people that were honoring tonight, have made a Significant Impact on people peoples lives on behalf of the work that theyve done, and that is why were here tonight, to recognize the incredible talented work, that were it not for these incredible talented individuals and team members, we would not be here tonight. Their Creative Minds worked overtime to solve some of the most challenging problems. I know there were four incredibly talented people from daas who worked to provide more opportunities for calfreshs. S. I. Recipients. Some of these people have serious Mental Illness or challenges mentally, and they would not have access to fresh, affordable food. It is such a significant thing. And lets also talk about the assessorsrecorders office, and im not sure carmen chu, but let me tell you, when carmen chu comes into my office and asks for anything, i always say yes because i know whos worked overtime to bring in more tax money into this San Francisco. It was her office, and the four individuals recognized tonight played a Critical Role in squeezing every dollar out the could out of people who owed money to the city and county of San Francisco. Dr. Peggy sugarman from d. H. R. Who created an injury hotline to respond to City Employees worker comp claims. Let me just say how important this is because we have to do a better job of taking care of our workforce. We have to make it easier for you to take care of yourself so that you can take care of the thousands of residents that were trying to help support every single day. And so creating an opportunity to make it easier for people to report workers comp claims, im sure has made it easier not just on your departments, but also on the employees that are going through whatever situation theyre dealing with, so congratulations to dr. Peggy sugarman. [applause] the hon. London breed and of course from the city administrators office, danielle mealer, who spear headed our Tall Building study, assessing seismic risk of Tall Buildings to examine how our structures will fare in the event of an earthquake. We know how important this is because San Francisco is earthquake territory. I remember when i was on the board of supervisors, talking to our city administrator, naomi kelly, about the need to really dig deep into this, and she was super excited about what this report would yield. And so now, the person, danielle, who led the report, is getting honored for her tremendous contribution to San Francisco. And last, but not lead, emmeline, from s. F. O. , who worked to improve employees lives at s. F. O. If you save people money in this city, you deserve our trust. I know that emmeline is here, and shes going to be honored tonight. So many ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and they do it not because they want to be recognized, but they care about doing a good job for the people of this city. So as a result, we are here to at least take a moment to pause and recognize their significant accomplishment, to making San Francisco a better, more efficient, more effective place. You always hear me talk about the city bureaucracy. Well, i guess super excited when people are breaking down that bureaucracy. So a lot of the work that so many of these folks do, its actually doing just that. Its also simultaneously creating access for those who sometimes traditionally may not have access to the resources that the city provides. I know that this work is critical because we have so many challenges, but i wanted to come here today to express my gratitude to all the City Employees and people who serve San Francisco every single day, the ones who may not be recognized here tonight, and you continue to move forward and do your jobs with pride. Im proud to represent you as your mayor because we know that we have accomplished a lot of great things, even though they may not be recognized. It reminds me of my family what have you done for me lately . Youve done a lot with work, with the analyses, with the budgets, everything you can do to help move San Francisco forward in a positive direction. Tonight is about celebration. Tonight is about recognition, and tonight is about a lot of appreciation. So congratulations to all of the honorees, and thank you to s. P. U. R. For this recognition and this partnership that will continue for years to come. Thank you so much and enjoy the evening. [applause] good evening, everyone. Im jean frazier, and im proud to be the vice chair of the San Francisco city board for s. P. U. R. Im also proud to be the c. E. O. Of the presidio trust, but most proud tonight to be a former San Francisco city employee, and im just thrilled, thrilled, thrilled to be here, emceeing the event to recognize all the folks in the city who are doing such wonderful work. Thank you, mayor breed, for expressing appreciation for not only the folks that we are honoring tonight, but i hope that everyone will join me because we have hundreds of dedicated Public Servants in this room who may not be recognized, but would you join me in a round of applause for them for their dedicated pub c service. [applause] so as mayor breed mentioned, its important to recognize how great having City Employees is. I want to recognize some elected officials here tonight. In addition to assembly man chu, we have supervisor mandelman, supervisor stefani, and i believe we have assessor chu. Thank you so much for coming tonight to recognize your wonderful employees. [applause] so were here tonight because s. P. U. R. Believes that government in the right hands and with the right leadership is the greatest force for good that humankind has ever created. Its Good Government that creates the structures that enable people to live peaceful and prosperous lives, and its the truly best government that protects the weak from the strong and prioritizes creating good for many, including future generations over creating the best for just a powerful few. In San Francisco, we have great government, as these awards tonight will underscore. To do all of this good, however, we need talented, dedicated, and particularly passionate people in government. S. P. U. R. Is dedicated to being a graeat partner to all of thee dedicated and passionate people. We work hard to research and advocate for good policy in housing, transportation, city and regional planning, and perhaps most importantly now, an equitable and prosperous economy. Our single goal is to make this region even better. One of the practices we know is to celebrate the accomplishments of city highlighted employees. For 40 years, s. P. U. R. Has collaborated with the Mayors Office to recognize people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. So from 40 nominations we received, this year, we had the very difficult task of narrowing it down to a small few. Tonight, were going to celebrate three individual city managers and two teams. So here we go. Im pleased to announce that the first Good Government award for 2020 is emmeline aspia from San Francisco international airport. [ ] s. F. O. Has so much economic opportunity. We did 10. 7 billion in economic activity, and our role is to maximize these opportunities for the community, to ensure they have opportunities to access the contracts and community here at s. F. O. To address some of the transportation challenges, we worked closely with b. A. R. T. To expand the discount for employees working here, so b. A. R. T. Discounts save employees up to 2400 a year in transportation costs. There are some challenges that make working at s. F. O. Challenging. S. F. O. Is its own little community, with its own police department, fire department, and Water Treatment plant. We are 13 miles from the city, on constrained land. As a result of that, we created something called the Workforce Employer board, which is made up of over 50 employers, and its an opportunity where businesses of different sizes and doing different work can really get together and talk about how can we, as an airport, band together to solve the problems that we are facing here today. And its out of this group that we come up with some of the strategies that we are working on implementing. Innovating around the Transportation Options that we have. Also thinking about how do we really support workers in maximizing their time here, streamlining our checkpoints so that employees can get to work quickly. One program that has really helped the Community Get opportunities at the airport is the Mayors Office opportunities for all program. We had over a dozen private sector employees leverage this program to bring young people into all aspects of working at the airport, including the airlines, concessions, and working directly with passengers. Its just another example of how the airport cares about its workers and its community. Emmeline has just been so flunl this ye influential in embracing the community of people that we have at the airport, and she really cares about the community at the airport. [applause] and we are so proud of the work emmeline has done on behalf of the communities of San Francisco and on behalf of the workers at s. F. O. And i would also like to acknowledge, emmelines mom, imelda. Thank you for having her, and her husband and son. Thank you for being here. Congratulations, emmeline. Come on up. Thank you so much for cultivating a culture that inspires excellence at s. F. O. And thank you, julia, for hiring me and guiding me. While its me up here, there is a very talented team at s. F. O. Numerous colleagues and other city family who deserve this recognition. Working at the airport is possible for me because my husband and son have excused me from all school pick ups and drop offs. And yeartodate, they have increased their on time morning departures and have decreased their late arrivals, resulting in a 58 decrease over the last year. [applause] and they never blame the rain, wind or fog for their delays. It was never on my radar that i would one day work at an airport, but s. F. O. Is an airport that is not only committed to being an exceptionally safe and secure Public Service that inspires and surprises and delights our passengers, but it has a longstanding history of using the power and influence of government to address the inequalities of economic privilege, and i am so proud to be a part of this. Thank you so much, s. P. U. R. , and congratulations to the other awardees and the airport for all you do. [applause] okay. Next up, for the Good Government award winner is the calfresh Expansion Initiative team. This Team Includes jay mills belamide, krista gayta, shanda johnson, and phil mau. [applause] calfresh, federally known as the Supplemental Assistance Program helps people boost their ability to get fresh food. This was an opportunity for our agency to potentially double the number of people that were going to be receiving calfresh benefits . Our department of disability avenu services have opportunities to tap into people that they serve. We worked with a lot of our Community Based organizations because we didnt want all the applications to come in at one time. We ran a daily dashboard to look at where all of our customers are coming from, looking at our approval rates, our denial rates, looking at what we can do to improve on our customer service. What languages do we need . We might need to get moralibility workers who more eligibility workers who speak those languages. It allows seniors on s. S. I. And disability to access more fresh food in San Francisco, it will provide these individuals with an increase in purchasing power over 50 . Thats significant. The Calfresh Team represented an amazing cross collaboration between two departments. This is something we havent done before. I think it enables us to do more of programs like this. I dont want to underestimate the real heros of this, which is our workers. This is a gigantic amount of work. We have three operations that accept calfresh applications, so folks had to work overtime and just put in a lot of hours and process things that they dont normally have to. We know that the San Francisco Food Security task force knows that one in five san franciscans are food insecure, which means they dont know where their next meal is coming from. I think its really having knowledge of the community and makes us go the extra mile to make sure that everyone who is eligible is enrolled. [applause] hi, there. Im shireen mcspadden, director of aging adult and disability services. This is an h. S. A. Team that worked across departments within our agency, to mobilize staff, to quickly serve san franciscans who hadnt been served with Food Security before. Thank you, shireen. Hi. Trevor o or. And im the director of the Human Services agency. A shoutout to noel simmons, whos here. Without her leadership, this could not have possibly been accomplished. [applause] so on behalf of the 22,000 lowincome disabled adults and seniors in San Francisco who now have calfresh benefits, i say thank you on their behalf, and on my half, i say congratulations. So well deserved. Come on up. [applause] germ protocol. Hi, everyone. Again, my name is shandra johnson. Im director of communications. Thank you to s. P. U. R. For this honor. My colleagues told me i was speaking on their behalf, so if i leave something out, be sure to jump in. As trent and shireen said, our agency has a unique structure here in the city. We serve one in four residents, and so you can imagine the complexity of programs and services and priorities that we deal with each day. And for those of us in the field of Human Services, the last few years have felt a little bit like weve been up against the ropes to preserve the policies and programs that we know build wellbeing in our communities, so whether thats helping people navigate the affordability crisis in the city or our federal government in washington, d. C. , trying to dismantle Affordable Health care, we get up and make sure that san franciscans have the opportunity to Access Services in their community. So when we had the opportunity to expand calfresh to up to 40,000 california residents, i have to say this is a change from what weve been facing the last few years. We knew we had to make sure that all san franciscans knew the benefits that they were eligible for. I met a couple at one of the cal fresh events that were living on supplemental funds. They are immigrants. The wife told me how this would allow them to come to the Farmers Market the first time and purchase fresh food and fish, and prepare this food for our husband while he was undergoing cancer treatments. Thank you so much to my teammates, so our families who enable us to get up every day and serve the families of San Francisco. Hi. Theres my family. Wheres your okay. Krista . Theyre all here. So again, thank you to the leadership at h. S. A. , trent, shireen, noel, susie, all of the directors who give us the create tif creativity and resources that we need to have impactful and touching programming here in San Francisco. Certainly, as we alluded to in the video, while we are all honored to be here today, the recognition goes to the hundreds of social worker and see case managers and workers and case managers and outreach workers. Krista ballard, from my staff, whos here. Ill give her a shoutout, but they werent all able to be here today. Nonetheless, we know theyre out in the communities, answering questions and getting people signed up for benefits. This is for them, so thank you so much. [applause] all right. Our next Good Government award winner is thats part of those wonderful families. Our next Good Government award winner is danielle hutching miler. Director at the office of resilience and capital planning. [ ] what i like most about my job is the opportunity to work on complex, cross cutting, multidimensional problems, and working together with all the stakeholders to solve these problems. The Lifeline Council brings together all of the lifeline infrastructure within the city, and we come together every quarter to plan how we can most quickly restore those functions after an earthquake. We wanted to come up with a common picture so that we could think about whether those interdependencies and power are going to take a significant amount of time to restore so that other powers can think about what it means to their own restorations. We wanted to build on that gray work thats been happening in the bay area over the last 30 years, investing in our infrastructure and creating a common platform. I serve as director of San Franciscos Tall Building studies, and it was to study the characteristics of Tall Buildings in San Francisco and the role that they play. We think about their performance and the issues they face in an earthquake. Idanielle took the bull by the horns, and she coordinated with many departments. As a result, we were the first city in the world to actually do this. We now have inventoried over 300 buildings that are over 240 feet tall, and we have started implementing some of the recommendations. I think the biggest challenge will be addressing housing after an earthquake, ensuring that residents can live here after an earthquake, finding an affordable place to live, and thinking about how we can have an equitable recovery that includes everyone. [applause] good evening, everyone. My names naomi kelly, and im the city administrator for the city and county of San Francisco. Its my honor to be here tonight to give this award to danielle mueller. As you know, this started a few years back when you read in the newspaper about one Tall Building that was sinking and tilting. And we got an expert panel to look at the safety of that building. But we thought that maybe we should look at all Tall Buildings in the financial district and soils that may or may not have been the bay at one point, and how will they survive in earthquake country. So danielle took that on, and not only do we have a book of recommendations that will not only sit on the shelf, but shes working with d. B. I. And p. U. C. And other agencies. So its my honor to nominate danielle and to give you this award tonight. Danielle . [applause] thank you. Thank you to s. P. U. R. For the honor of this award. This project would not be possible without the amazing consultants at the applied Technology Council who applied their creativity and their intellect and passion for this work for making San Francisco a more seismically safe place to live. We also have to acknowledge naomi kelly for her leadership, and brian strong for his leadership in making this program happen, as well as the departments of building inspection and the department of housing. We really worked together really hard, and we worked together closely to make sure that we could develop these recommendations around Tall Buildings and make sure theyre implemented. Were continuing to work on them regularly and making sure that theyre implemented. I want to thank my family for really instilling in me the importance of Public Service and supporting me and being there for me and for loving me. For my family, my friends, and my two sons, who couldnt be here today. I was pregnant with my second son when i started this project, and its amazing to work in a place where i can raise my family and be there for my family like i need to be while i can take on these projects and work on them with all my passion and all my heart. This is an amazing place to live and an amazing place to work and serve. San francisco has a seismic future, and we have a lot of work to do, and i look forward to doing that while making sure that all san franciscans live, work, and go to school in seismically safe places, and i look forward to doing that work with you in the future, so thank you. [applause] the next award is the goal to roll award from the assessors office. [applause] [ ] revenue generated by public taxes in San Francisco amount to 3. 3 billion. We fund just about everything that makes San Francisco run. With the market crash back in 2008, our assessment appeals caseload went way up. That meant that we diverted resources from processing other types of cases in our office, like change in ownership and new construction. You know, assessors generally from four years to process changes in ownership and new construction. But if we take all four years, tax payers get a number of bills, three or four years worth of bills at one time, which is not great for them, and its not the way we want to run our office. The goal of our department was to clear those backlogs so were providing Timely Service to taxpayers. One of the goals of goal to roll was eliminating backlogs, so that transactions that took place four years ago or more, lessening the burden on taxpayers of having to receive multiple years of tax bills. In 2016 when i started, we would have to ask an analyst to run a report, and now, we can see what was done yesterday. This initiative sought to raise the bar of production in our office through focused management, new technology, and just smarter business practices. To keep pace with our workload and take on new initiatives, our h. R. Department was able to fill close to 200 new position zblz in ju zblz. In june of 2017, we had 30,000 documents in our backlog, and now, we have about 1,000, and thats not all open cases, thats whats coming from the assessors office. So last three years alone, we saw a tax base that increased by over 32 . Over the last through years, so much of our office has been focused on trying to reverse a decades worth of work. These individuals, we nominated because of their contribution and leadership in the whole process. I think their contributions having such a huge impact on the citys operations is something worth celebrating. [applause] you know, winning the s. P. U. R. Is like the Academy Awards or oscars in city government. When we heard about all the other things from the nominees who won and are recognized today, we hear about the expansion of the calfresh work, we hear about the work that were doing in the seismic world, a lot of work that is done is because of the people in our office. We have an incredibly important function, so being able to be recognized for this work is something that were very proud of. Today before i bring any nom my nominees up, i want to say thank you to my entire team. Can you please standup for just a moment. [applause] its not easy to reverse a decades old backlog. It is not easy to change business processes, but these people did it. They worked together, they made sure our office did it together, and they did something that no one thought would be possible in such a short amount of time. I must thank directors douglas lang and rachel zuckerman. We have a lot of fun solving problems. [please stand by] do this by really fundamentally changing the way we do business. We dug into our data to identify our Research Needs and we created pathways for growth and we implemented to do our work. Our staff did an amazing job to embrace this change and closed the work on time. I know this work would not have been possible without the contributions of every Single Member of the office. This award really belongs to all of you. Thank you so, so much. [cheering and applause] i would like to thank carmen chu. It is such a gift to work for someone who embodies what Public Service is all about and were so lucky to be a part of your team. Were so honored to be here tonight. Thank you all for coming out to support this event and to support Good Government within the city family and to spur, thank you for this incredible, incredible honor for our office. [cheering and applause] okay, our final but by no means, the least of our winners tonight is peggy sugarman, the Workers Compensation director in the department of Human Resources for San Francisco. [ ] for public sectors and private sectors, a National Search for the workers comp director. When i saw this job, i thought thats my job. Im responsible for the workers comp division. This effects any employee within the city outside of many and any of the claims that get filed for Work Injuries or illnesses will come through our office one way or another. We negotiated with the police and fire unions at the same table to shortcut through all of the processes and go through mediation and arbitration as opposed to a workers comp judge. Our litigation rate is down 60 percent. With the pharmacy benefit network, they can get a card if we believe they will be on this for a while and they can go to any pharmacy and get their medications quickly and easily. When the Controllers Office implemented direct deposit for payroll, i said i want in. It was a team effort between the treasurer, the controller, the bank to get this done. This took years. As far as i could tell, the first claims administrator in the state of california to implement automatic deposits for all disability workers in San Francisco. I cant verify that, but ill take it. I am always monitoring the legislation because workers comp legislation changes every year. When the state auditors come in, they look for every request for authorization for the prior three months. We got 100 compliance. Peggy has really been a catalyst for revamping our entire program in so many ways but pursuing significant efficiencies, which they make sure people get paid their benefits regardless of an earthquake or anything that happens. We have an alternative dispute resolution. It helps remove inherent conflict that people have. I want to be a model organization. Im constantly reading through to see what are the newest innovations that people are doing, how can we improve. It is always about examining that we do, creating a plan and following through. Im never content to leave things be if theyre not working well. [cheering and applause] you dont really know what you look like until you see it on a big screen. [laughter] im nicki, im so pleased that peggy is being honored for her amazing work in the city and county of San Francisco. Recently she reminded me that about 15 years ago when we were at the state of california, i had an opportunity to hire her and i did not do so. [laughter] that was clearly a mistake, which i remedied later when i was at the city and county of San Francisco. Peggy, make sure that over 50 million in Workers Compensation benefits are paid efficiently d efficiently,rd and fairly to our employees and former employees. Thats an connection we cannot underestimate. We thought Workers Compensation was pretty boring, but its an amazing connection that the employer has with the employees and peggy has been successful in reducing the angst, the litigation, and moving to a model which is supportive of our employees in helping them get better and back to work. So im just thrilled to death to be able to congratulate peggy for this award. Thank you peggy. [cheering and applause] thank you. I am incredibly honored to receive this award from spur. I attended many of these events myself and i was envious. I really want to be up there. I never really thought i would be, so thank you for the nominati nomination. For the recognition of the work were doing for those employees that become injured or ill because of their work and the service to the city and some of them pay the ultimate price for that service. In the midst of the citys Emergency Response to the outbreak of covid19, this is when leadership and innovation become even more important and im extremely proud to be part of the team to ensure that the city is prepared to protect its workforce and its citizens. I want to thank Nicki Callahan for her unwavering support of all of my projects and ideas. Nothing happens without that kind of support. Ive been in the Workers Compensation system for over 40 years and i have very specific ideas of what should be done. Just a shoutout to nicki, im not done yet. [laughter] more changes are coming. Also a big shoutout to the Workers Compensation Division Team and the staff for their willingness to bend to the many changes that we have brought about, changes that i think we can call environmental jolts, right . Some changes are continuous, and others are just huge. One such change was the implementation of our alternative dispute Resolution Program that we implemented with the San Francisco firefighters, local 798 and the San Francisco Police Officers association. Julian robinson spent a great deal of time to implement the changes in this program and while im on that subject, a big shoutout to tom, shawn, from the San Francisco Fire Association and tony from the San Francisco Police Officers association for their collaboration and developing this program that reduces litigation and speeds the payment of benefits to our deserving employees. Another big thanks to so many people that are involved in the launch of our automatic Deposit Program for disability benefits, which sounds pretty boring, but it was a huge collaboration with the Controllers Office, the treasurers office, u. S. Bank, our vendors, and our own team. So thank you to christy, the former award winner last year from the Controllers Office, head of the Payroll Division for working with us to create this program, even in the midst of a disaster, we reduced our payment and printing costs over 30,000 checks a year. We have eliminated saving money, saving the environment, and ensuring people get their benefits. Finally i want to acknowledge my family that is here, my husband ted, daughters jamie and erica, my friend liz for being here to help me celebrate this award. Thank you for that. Another box checked. Ed stone is also here to help me celebrate and took their time away from their families to be here tonight. Thank you so much. I am so proud. Thank you. [cheering and applause] all right, please join me in congratulating all of our winners tonight. Such wonderful people. Thank you for all you have done. [applause] before i let you get to the networking, the drinks, and the food, i need to say that the only reason that spur can do the education, the advocacy and these programs is because of our members. How many of you, please raise your hand if youre a spur member. Okay, if you are not a member, please join so that you can support us in all of this work, supporting our wonderful colleagues and making government even greater. Thank you so much for coming tonight. Thank you for supporting us, have a great evening. [cheering and applause] this is a huge catalyst for change. It will be over 530,000 gross square feet plus two levels of basement. Now the departments are across so many locations it is hard for them to Work Together and collaborate and hard for the customers to figure out the different locations and hours of operation. One of the main drivers is a one stopper mitt center for permit center. Special events. We are a one stop shop for those three things. This has many different uses throughout if years. In 1940s it was cocacola and the flagship as part of the construction project we are retaining the clock tower. The permit center is little working closely with the Digital Services team on how can we modernize and move away from the paper we use right now to move to a more digital world. The Digital Services team was created in 2017. It is 2. 5 years. Our job is to make it possible to get things done with the city online. One of the reasons permitting is so difficult in this city and county is really about the scale. We have 58 Different Department in the city and 18 of them involve permitting. We are expecting the residents to understand how the departments are structured to navigate through the permitting processes. It is difficult and we have heard that from many people we interviewed. Our goal is you dont have to know the department. You are dealing with the city. Now if you are trying to get construction or special events permit you might go to 13 locations to get the permit. Here we are taking 13 locations into one floor of one location which is a huge improvement for the customer and staff trying to Work Together to make it easy to comply with the rules. There are more than 300 permitting processes in the city. There is a huge to do list that we are possessing digital. The first project is allowing people to apply online for the a. D. U. It is an accessory dwelling unit, away for people to add extra living space to their home, to convert a garage or add something to the back of the house. It is a very complicated permit. You have to speak to Different Departments to get it approved. We are trying to consolidate to one easy to due process. Some of the next ones are windows and roofing. Those are high volume permits. They are simple to issue. Another one is restaurant permitting. While the overall volume is lower it is long and complicated business process. People struggle to open restaurants because the permitting process is hard to navigate. The city is going to roll out a digital curing system one that is being tested. When people arrive they canshay what they are here to. It helps them workout which cue they neat to be in. If they rant to run anker rapid she can do that.
