A Shawnee mother and her two young children were killed in a boating accident on the Neosho River Saturday evening.The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) reports several agencies responded to the area of the Burlington City Dam around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on a boat accident call.Responders say a family of two adults and two young children were boating on the river when the boat approached a low-head dam. The boat reportedly stalled in fast-moving water and the driver lost control. Everyone on board was thrown into the river.A man identified as Wesley Sharp of Shawnee, Kansas, was rescued from the water and taken to a hospital in stable condition. A woman identified as Maribel Moran and the couples children, ages 3 and 5, were found unresponsive. They were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.The Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism was assisted by the Water Rescue Division of the Coffey County Fire District #1, Coffey County Sheriff’s Office and Burlington Police Department.A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
