In the Flashpoint story, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) runs back to his childhood in order to prevent his mother's death. While Barry actually manages to undo the tragic event that haunted him into adulthood, it resets the DC comic book universe, creating alternate versions of certain characters and rewriting their existing timelines.
