A judge granted a prosecutor’s request to seal some records in the case of the teen who strangled his mother to death in DeBary while plea negotiations continue in the prosecution against one of the co-defendants.
Gregory Ramos, 17, was sentenced on Jan. 22 to 45 years in prison followed by lifetime of probation for strangling his mother, Gail Cleavenger, 46, to death. Because he was a juvenile at the time of his crime, Ramos' sentence will be reviewed after he serves 25 years in prison, at which time he could be released.
Ramos was a 15-year-old University High School student when he strangled his mother on Nov. 2, 2018, after an argument over a poor grade in their home at 35 Alicante Road in DeBary. He then buried her body behind a nearby church, investigators said.
