THE McVitie’s factory in the East End of Glasgow is planned to close, in a move that was branded as “devastating” for workers.
Pladis, the global snacking company, revealed the proposal today, subject to a “full and meaningful consultation” with employees at the Tollcross site.
A factory worker – who did not wish to be named – said the workers were told the news eight hours into a 12-hour shift and added workers were “crying” as they left the building.
She added: “They turned off all the plants and took us to the warehouse to announce the closure.
“The workforce was gutted as it was so sudden.”
