Queenstown Lakes mayor Jim Boult says the bubble will be “massive” for the region.
“You take a hotel running at about 15 per cent occupancy, obviously [they] wound their staff right down and suddenly they’re operating at 70 per cent capacity. It requires a lot of gearing up and getting staff in place.”
“If they arrived tomorrow we would find a way to make it work ... count us among the desperate at this point in time. But, to really get things back to where we’re offering good service again I would say it’s going to take a month to six weeks.”
