The other consideration is even friends and allies dont take from you thousands and thousands of highly classified documents as if thats some kind of natural right. In fact, the closer the relationship and the deeper the exchanges between the countries and the very solid enduring continued commitment of the United States to israels defense would, i would have thought, caused second thoughts in those who authorize this particular set of activities on israels behalf and mr pollard paid a very high price for that as you said he cant leave the u.
