About 95 of those senators invited here today for lunch to show up. They hope this is more of a strategy session where, like you said, they can figure out what theyre going to do next. The question is, what strategy are they going to purr . Theyre meeting request a president who publicly advocated for several different strategies including repeal and replace then repeal and replace at a later date and letting obamacare fail which is what President Trump brought up yesterday during a meeting here at the white house. It will also likely be a venting session for these senators who dont think trump has done enough to publicly advocate for this bill. He never gave solo speeches dedicated to this Health Care Bill leaving more of the leg work up to Vice President mike pence. Now, during the last dinner, the Health Care Bill essentially collapsed when senators lee and moran came out in opposition against it. Donald trump said that that surprised him though it didnt surprise many other people. It will be interesting to see what happens today because donald trump often distances himself from the party calling them the republicans and today he said the republicans have to fulfill the promise they made to the American People to Fix Health Care. The white house said this isnt him distancing himself from republicans but noted their promise to Fix Health Care comes along before his. The republican, like a strange version of the ohio state which i always take issue with in and of itself. Joining me now, former Communications Director at the rnc and former top staffer doug he heye. Hi, guys, great to have you here. Thank you. So im confused. Kaitlin lays it out. Forget the ohio state, well get to that later. Repeal and replace, repeal now, replace later or let obamacare fail and then well figure it out. The reporting is that theyre going to go into this lunch and the message from the president is inaction is not an option. Which of the menu of those three are we at . Im quite confuse zmd. Everybody is confused. Were not at plan b or plan c, were at plan q and until we figure out direction from the president , we wont know anything more. If you look back at the dinner republican senators have, theyll tell you donald trump spent more time talking about the parade in paris than he did in health care. We need to see a change in action at the white house, not talking about they but talking about we. Move moving things forward and talking about this. The absence of his voice meant there was a vacuum meant it was filled with bad cbo numbers and bad process stories. We cant do anything if that doesnt change. And the lack of we youve often heard with President Trump when it comes to things when things are not going well legislatively when it comes to his agenda. John, what do you there are meetings what do you think could come from this meeting if the republican senators show up . I dont think very much will come from this meeting. I cant see what would have changed from the other day when the Senate Republicans had their lunch after moran and lee came out and killed the bill. So hard to see what the president can offer at this point. I agree with doug completely. President ial leadership is essential for major pieces of legislation like this and president obama worked really hard to stay on message, to bring members along, to try to shape the bill in ways without being dominant. But at the end of the day, the other problem with this legislation is its just not a very good bill and i dont think you can message your way around this. Theres only so much the president can do with a bill thats going to take away insurance from 23 Million People. Well, heres one thing about it, at least as of yesterday, well see where the president lands today. As of yesterday, the president said he was he would be fine with just letting obamacare fail and if it did he wasnt going to own it. To remind our viewers, this is what he said. Well just let obamacare fail. Were not going to own it, im not going to own it, the republicans are not going to own it. I want to make a point on that before i get your take. Thats a total contradiction to what the president ran on. One of his strong points was hes from the outside and hes the only guy or gal he can send to washington to fix the system. Just listen to this from the convention. I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people who cannot defend themselves. [ applause ] nobody knows the system better than me. [ cheers and applause ] which is why i alone can fix it. So what does this failure right now prove . Well, i think it should, if things work, give us some hope. If you go back in 2014, republicans struggled to put any kind of legislation not even legislation, language on a health care replacement. I worked on it for six months and we got nowhere and the only dynamic different between today and last year when we struggled and five years sag that we have a President Trump and we own this because we own the house and senate and white house. If were not working together with an all hands on deck mentality, we wont do this that leadership has to come from the president. As of this moment it doesnt seem like it is when he says we will not own it, i will not own it. What did you think when you heard the president said that yesterday . Obviously he hasnt been a great supporter of the members of his own party along the way. He called the house bill mean. He often tries to shift blame a away. He often tries to shift failures away from himself. Just because you control all the levers of government, doesnt mean you have to do anything by yourself. Democrats i think genuinely want to work with republicans to fix some of the things in the Affordable Care act as long as that effort isnt designed to repeal the whole law. George w. Bush, even though when he came into office he controlled the senate and he controlled the house, reached out to democrats on a whole host of priorities. I worked on the 2001 tax cut bill. But dont be pollyanna. I think some democrats would truly enjoy to see whatever the republicans end up doing good, bad, or ugly fail so they can use in the 2018. Im not being pollyannish about this. Theres no way democrats will agree to a bill that repeals the Affordable Care act. At all. Full stop. If those are the terms of the negotiation democrats are going to be hardnosed about that and they should be. However, if it means working with the republicans to make a few minor tweaks so Peoples Insurance markets operate more effectively i think democrats are game for that. Democrats are going to have to lose the term minor in terms of the tweaks. This is about more than health care, this is about whether or not a Republican Party owning the government can govern. We are having problems in a lot of different areas. Lets first if they will own health care. Great to see you, thanks so much. Turning now to new questions in the russia invest. First it was jared, now ivanka, what did ivanka trump know and did she disclose it . Some democrats are calling on the fbi to review what the first daughter put on her security clearance application when she joined the administration as a white house adviser. This comes amid the everevol everevolving explanations coming from her brother and updated disclosures coming from her husband after their meetings with russians. Lets go to Jeremy Diamond following this side of the story. Jeremy, what is the basis for these calls for democrats to look into ivankas security clearance . Congressman don byer, a democrat, is leading a group of 22 members of Congress Calling on the fbi to review ivankas security clearance application potential emissions. The emissions theyre talking about are in particular about Foreign Government contacts, thats a part of a contact that asks you to disclose your contacts and family members. Hugh, Jared Kushner, donald trump jr. Who we learned last week had this meeting in june, 2016, with a russian lawyer who donald trump jr. Believed was representing the russian government to pro dirt on hillary clinton. So let me read you a part of this letter from congressman don byer. We believe ivanka trump has engaged in similar deception. The High Standard we hold public servants, particularly senior advisers to the president of the United States requires questions be raised and promptly answered. So democrats have turned up the heat of Jared Kushner calling for his security clearance. Now theyre turning up the heat on ivanka. The white house and ivanka ice attorney have yet to respond to cnns for comment. Kate . So you have that. And now theres also more coming out about the eighth person who attended the meeting with donald trump, jr. At trump tower and his links to a congressional investigation. Not just a congressional investigation but a federal investigation into russian Money Laundering. What can you tell us . We found out just recently that ike calpe canaver ike cape kaveladze was being investigated with regards to Money Laundering. He has denied any connection to Money Laundering efforts at the time. He called the gao, if Government Accountability offices investigation a witchhunt. Familiar words were hearing from the president of the United States. But senator carl levin a democrat on that Congressional Panel just put out a statement on facebook. He says as gao reported, kaveladze established some 2,000 u. S. Corporations and Bank Accounts for a number of them. The owners of those accounts moved moved 1. 4 billion through those accounts. He claims he did all this without knowing for whom he was doing it. He goes on to call kaveladze the poster child of the practice of Money Laundering. So more questions being raised about cape canaver about kaveladze who was the eighth person in that room. Joining me now on this to discuss is former u. S. Attorney michael moore. Great to see you. Go into. Good to see you. The eighth person in the room, kaveladze, from the 2016 meeting, hes being linked to the federal Money Laundering investigation. This was back in the 2000 when this was being investigated. Is Robert Mueller going to look into this . I think bob mueller will look into a lot of it. These investigations take a long time, ing more will come out, hopefully we dont have leaks. But the problem with the explanations about the meeting is like the Russian Dolls that you open up and theres another doll inside. Called a babushka doll. Thats how this is. Every time we look into the meeting we pop the top off and another little russian pops out. Thats where we are. The real problem with the meeting is its essentially a time when we gave the communists a win, gave putin a win both in the pr end and counterintelligence world. I dont know what the administration was expecting. I dont know if they thought putin would ride up in a 1947 tank wearing a fur hat but they send people in to set these things up and what the trump team did is set up the potential for blackmail and extortion going down the road. I have another question on this eighth person in this investigation that were now just learning about. The investigation looked at hundreds of u. S. Bank accounts. More than a billion dollars was funneled through them and former senator carl levin says, as jeremy laid out, that this guy became in essence a poster child for this kind of moneylaundering practice. He was never charged in this but how serious is this . Its serious any time you link somebodys name with Money Laundering. Thats a federal violation and its especially serious since we dont have tax returns from the president to see if maybe he had interest interests or deals with these corporations that are set up. Those could tell us a lot, too. So the web continues to get thick and were not getting the information from the administration that we need and for some reason they seem to be particularly protective and interested in having these ongoing discussions with the russians. On bob mueller, dianne feinstein, senator dianne feinstein, the top democrat on the Senate Judiciary committee, she said mueller has given them on judiciary, given them the green light to bring in, to ask to bring in donald trump jr. And Paul Manafort to get them to testify a about this meeting. Can you read anything into that about the investigation that mueller is doing that he is okay with them testifying . My guess is that hes probably got information from a cooperating source. He may have the information he needs about the meeting and is now willing to see whether or not statements come out that are contrary to what he thinks he can prove from other everyday. So if he was in the midst of wondering whether or not there was some nefarious intent, i doubt he would have given his okay but my guess is maybe its from Michael Flynn or somebody else, hes got information about what the intent was behind that meeting, probably well beyond even the emails that weve seen from don jr. We will stand by to find out. Great to see you, michael, thanks so much. Coming up, me questions after we learn the president met with Vladimir Putin a second time at the g20 summit. Why didnt he bring another american with him . Any official, any translator, and why didnt anybody know about this until now . Ill speak live with one former ambassador who says putins goal was just that to get the president alone. Plus, the russian lawyer at the center of the trump tower meeting says she will testify but on one condition, thats ahead. And we are just getting word President Trump will be speaking any moment at the first meeting of the Voter Fraud Commission that he set up. Been embroiled in controversy since it began. Moments from now, the president will be playing host far meal with some serious high stakes. Hes invited all republican senators over for lunch at the white house. The topic, health care. So is this going to be more of a postmortem or a fresh start at this point . Where do things go for from here . Joining me right now, republican congressman Michael Burgess who helped craft the Health Care Bill that passed in the spring. Good to see you. Thanks for coming in. Thanks for having me on. Appreciate it. Congressman, how hopeful are you that they are going to come out of this lunch, Senate Republicans and the president , on one message on health care . Well, i dont know in thats if thats a possibility. But i think its good that they are meeting and ji dont know that the final answer will be in today. Leader mcconnell has said that there will be a vote on a motion to proceed next week. I think we know at this point how important it is to the president and Vice President. Although it has been difficult to get here. Here we are right on precipice of getting this accomplished and i believe the president is going to be all in in talking to the senators about how important it is to move this along. Maybe the message today, but just yesterday congressman the president says he made very clear that he was okay with just not doing anything and letting obamacare fail. Are you comfortable with that position . No, the fights not over and i believe the senators have a i know the senators have a duty to go to the floor and vote. It may not be a successful vote but my opinion they are obligated, they cant do this by mailing in a press release, they have to go to the floor of the senate, they have to be recorded yes or no and you saw the editorial of the wall street journal this morning, does any senator in that group want to be the one who whom it is forever affix it had title this is the senator that saved obamacare after running election after election saying they were going to get rid of it . Thats tough to carry that forward in their political career. They know why its tough to make these decisions but on the president s role, you say you dont agree the president that letting obamacare fail is an option but also lets back up. I wouldnt say i disagree with the president but i dont think that is the option on the table. I think the option on the table is do we proceed with this do you think the president is right where he says we might be a place where you would be okay with not doing anything and letting obamacare fail . I think the president does hold some cards in this that the average senator or the average house member does not hold and that is the decision to continue funding what are called cost sharing reduction payments, thats about 7 billion a year. Remember, the house sued president obama because those were not appropriated funds. The court case was put on hold while the new administration got up to speed but now the decision month by month as to whether or not those payments occur, that is out of the white house so they have some leverage there and i wont say what i think or whether or not theyve talked to me about it or whether or not they would use that leverage but that is leverage available to the executive branch and i think theyre aware of that. Isnt that different than letting it fail . Isnt that actively trying to push it to fail . Well, its all about negotiation and you make your best case. The president is known for being a closer. The senate and even the house are not known for its ability to close a deal. The president is. Ill give him the space he needs to negotiate this. Let me ask you about this one then, congressman. The president also says if this fails republicans wont own it i wont own it he said. Didnt you all take ownership of this when you won control of both chambers of congress and the white house . Wait a minute, remember who youre talking to. Im a house republican, we get blamed for everything so i fully understand whos going to if theres a victory we get very little credit, if theres blame we pretty much get it all. So on that one, the president is a little off base . No, i wouldnt say he is off bas base. You dont think he owns this . My experience as a house member is you will do a very good job making sure the House Republicans own whatever if its bad, the House Republicans will own it, if its successful, there will be a Million People lined up to take credit for it. Oh, congress man, do not put this on me that im going to putting blame on you. This is about you republicans its reality. Have control of the house. Ive lived with it for a decade. The republicans have control of the house and senate and white house and you say the president will not own this if this fails . Well, the president did not cause this problem. This problem was caused by nancy pelosi, harry reid and barack obama back in 2009 and 2010 when they pushed on a party line vote, a reformation of onesixth of the american economy. Right, but congressman, the president was more than happy tough sledding ever since then trying to fix that but i dont think you can say al the 11th hour this is on the executive branch. It started with the executive branch in 2009 but the president s only been on the job for six months. I agree with him. I dont think that is his ownership. As a house member, yeah, i get it, we have run on thisened n, what, 2010, 2014, 2016. He ran on it, too, congressman. He ran on it, too. The deliverable is ours and we need to deliver for the president. I feel that acutely that the president needs us to do our job and i want the house did do its job. I want the senate to do its job as well, they cant mail this with a press release, they have to go on the floor with the senate and be recorded . I hear you but the president was more than happy to own health care when the house did act and passed its version of health care and held a pep rally at the white house the president seemed more than happy to own it then. He was grateful for the houses participation and i was grateful for the president acknowledging. It was hard. As someone who sat through the committee in the 28hour markup. This was hard. For people who said you werent really repealing obamacare, that wasnt the tone in those markups. I want to get you on this one point, congressman, hes not shirking responsibility when he says im the president but im not going to own it if the Health Care Effort fails under my watch . You all will assign what you wish to assign. Oh, stop, do not put this on me, i am asking you. As a house member i know where the responsibility is and its with the members of the peoples house and senate. Always great to have you on, appreciate it. Thank you. Coming up for us, the secret sit down between the president and Vladimir Putin and only three people know what was said at all. What they talked about. How unusual is this . Does it break rules . Vice president pence speaking right now. Hes chairing the commission with kris kobach. Kobach is the man who stirred big controversy when he requested on behalf of the Commission Last month that all 50 states turn over some pretty detailed voter information. Many states run by democrat and republican alike simply refused the request. Cnns diane galler wi er willag following the work on the commission. What are they working on today . Vice president mike pence, you saw him there introduce President Trump. Here he is. Please be seated. Mr. Vice president , distinguished guests and members of the media, im honored to welcome you here as the bipartisan t shl Advisory Commission on Election Integrity prepares to conduct its First Official meeting, very, very important. In this commission is tasked with the say credit duty of upholding the integrity of the ballot box and the principle of one citizen, one vote. Every time voter fraud occurs it canceled out the vote of a lawful citizen and undermines democracy. You cant let that happen. Any form of illegal or fraudulent voting whether by noncitizens or the deceased and any form of Voter Suppression or intimidation must be stopped. Im pleased that more than 30 states have already agreed to share the information with the commission and the other states that information will be forthcoming. If any state does not want to share this information, one has to wonder what theyre worried ant and i asked the Vice President , i asked the commission what are they worried about . Theres something. There always is. This issue is very important to me because throughout the campaign and even after people would come up to me and express their concerns about voter inconsistencies and irregularities which they saw. In some cases having to do with very large numbers of people in certain states. All Public Officials have a profound respond to protect the integrity of the vote. We have no choice. We want to make America Great again. We have to protect the integrity of of the vote and our voters. This is not a democrat or republican issue, its an american issue. Its ant the concern of so Many Americans that improper voting has taken place and cancelling out the votes of lawful american citizens. That is why president Theodore Roosevelt once said it is the affair of every honest voter wherever born to see that no fraudulence voting is allowed anywhere. I want to thank Vice President pence for chairing the commission. I also want to thank kansas secretary of state kris kobach for serving as vice chair going to be a lot of work, theyre going to work hard over a short period of time and i want to thank you very much, chris, mike. This is a Bipartisan Panel consisting of both republican and Democratic Leaders and experts on voter integrity. I would like to personally thank each of our Panel Members for serving. Appreciate it. In addition to the chair and vice chair, this distinguished Bipartisan Panel includes indiana secretary of state connie lawson. New hampshire secretary of state bill gardner. Maine secretary of state matthew dunl dunlap former ohio secretary of state ken blackwell. Formerar ar state representative david dunn, thank you, david. Wood county West Virginia clerk mark rhodes. Heritage Foundation Senior legal fellow and manager of the election law reform initiative, a real expert hans van spakowski chairman of the president ial Interest Foundation group, great group. Jefferson county alabama probate judge alan king. Thank you. Thank you very much. Each of you has been entrusted with the great responsibility of helping to advance the cause of fair, honest, and lawful elections. Your work will help protect our democra democracy. This will be a very transparent process. Its going to be very open for everybody to see. You will approach this important task with a very open mind and with no conclusions already drawn. You will fairly and objectively follow the facts wherever they may lead. I look forward to the findings and recommendations your report will produce and i share your report as soon as i can and as soon as possible with the American People so the full truth will be known and exposed if necessary in light of day. We call on every state to give its full support and total cooperation in this effort. Most of them have really done brilliantly and we appreciate it and the rest that information will be forthcoming. Thank you very much, mr. Vice president , thank you and chris thank you, panel thank you very much, we appreciate it. Do a great job. Thank you. Thank you. [ applause ] youre just listening to President Trump right there at the first big meeting of the Voter Fraud Commission that was set up, youll remember in response to what the president said in a closed meeting and then tweeted about it afterward that he would have won the popular vote had it not been for three to five million illegal votes in the election. This was set up in response to that. The president saying a lot, that Voter Suppression and intimidation must be stopped and voter irregularities need to be checked out without evidence saying at one point that voter irregularities were reported involving very large numbers of people in certain states. Without providing any evidence of what states hes talking about. Lets get reaction. With me is kentucky secretary of state allison grimes, shes she, of course, said there is not enough bourbon in the state, her state, to make her give up voter data to the panel. Shes a member of the dncs commission on Voter Protection that was set up in response to the White House Commission meeting today. Secretary, thank you for your time, appreciate it. Thank you, kate, great to join you. You have been very clear youre no fan of this commission and youre not giving over your states the data that was requested from your state. What did you think of what the president just said right there. If theres any state that doesnt provide the information you have to wonder what are they worried about . What are you worried about . Well, in terms of kentucky, its making sure that 3. 3 million kentuckians sensitive private information is not pub in the Public Domain and importantly in the hands of Vladimir Putin someone who all intelligence agencies confirm sought to interfere in our elections its also to keep say credit what the constitution and the 10th amendment prescribed for our elections, they are to be run by the states, the Voter Registration rolls especially if particular. The decentralization, kate, to our elections, thats what led to the headlines instead of being meddling outright disruption and we have the president admitting the baseless claims for which this Sham Commission was put together are his insecurity for losing the popular vote. What we dont have and still dont have answers to is why this commission continues to waste taxpayer dollars on a climb that expert after expert and even elected official after elected official continues to say does not exist and thats that three to five million folks voted illegally in this election. Kris kobach, the vice chair of the commission, he spoke out and defended the need and the request for voter information that was put out there. He says its to improve voter integrity. Listen to kris kobach. The commission is not set up to prove or disprove President Trumps claim. So if as the Democrat Members of congress contend, there is no voter fraud, we will make their case for them because the commission will come up with nothing so the idea you should stop the commission from looking at a problem because theres going to be something we dont want the American Public to see, thats outrageous. What do you say to that . I think the secretary from kansas is in damage control. He knows as well as the American Public that this commission has been received about as well as a breeze off an outhouse. Its the reason why no secretary of state is fully complying with this request, we heard the president reiterate claims that are just not founded in terms of compliance. But if it is Public Information, if it is Public Information that theyre just trying to gather information, he says why not give them the benefit of the doubt . Well, kate, we dont have any evidence from study after study of which taxpayer dollars have been used or even elected officials saying that dont stand by their results, there is simply not evidence with which we need to continue to waste taxpayer dollars or worse create one of the nations most Widespread National voter presentation efforts. The secretary from kansas didnt see the horrible impact this commission has already had on our elections. I have one answer for him, thats colorado. Its thousands of folks who are already deregistering because they dont want this Sensitive Information when they registered, importantly their date of birth, voting history, political affiliation all in the hands of the white house. They dont want to take away whats important about our elections and thats that theyre left to the states. Its akin to telling a robber heres the keys to my house and right where my jewelry is located. This information being aggreg e aggregated, stored in an unsecure facility in the white house, we know the white house has trouble keeping things confidential, look what they did to folks who had objections to this commission we had thousands of folks who wrote letters to the white house, their information either incompetence or outright intimidation already released to the public. One individual from kentucky, ms. Julie pease, were here standing up for her. People dont want their information compromised for the president s insecurity. I hear what youre saying. As far as i can see the commission doesnt have legislative power. The commission cant Tell Kentucky how to run your election. The request is just that, a request, its not a demand but ill have no problem, kate, if we need to go to Court Standing up and fighting for 3. 3 million kentuckians. The fact this commission exists though and the first foot they got off was requesting data indicates that ive gotten off on the wrong foot and like the keystone cops, i dont trust them to shoot straight. We dont need to continue to perpetuate a myth that study after study shows massive voter fraud in this state does not exist, especially such that would be sufficient enough to swing an election, especially the popular vote of this president ial election in 2016. Secretary, thank you for your time, appreciate it. Thank you, kate. Coming up for us, a secret and a second sit down between the president and russian president Vladimir Putin. Why wasnt the meeting revealed . What was discussed . And who knows what really was said . Thats ahead. Plus, any moment now, republican senators will be arriving at the white house. Looking at live pictures of the capitol for a scene thats become familiar. Republican senators getting on a bus, going down pennsylvania avenue to meet with the president to have lunch after the collapse of their Health Care Efforts. Where are they going to go from here. This morning, one of the eight people at the 2016 meeting at trump tower, the one who promised to be providing dirt from the russian government to the Trump Campaign on hillary clinton, well, she says she is now willing to testify for the u. S. Senate, but with conditi s conditions. Listen. Top democrat on the Senate Intelligence committee, senator mark warner, has told cnn he wants to hear from her now, no word yet on when that might happen. Lets talk about another previously undisclosed meeting, in this case, between President Trump himself and president Vladimir Putin. The two talked for nearly an hour at the g20 summit. This is in addition to the disclosed meeting. Mr. Trump relied on a russian translator when this discussion took place, leaving the United States with really no one with an official transcript of this conference. The president tweeted this in his defense. The fake news is becoming more and more dishonest, even a dinner arranged for the top 20 leaders in germany is made to look sinister. Its the fact that the United States president meet with the russian president for nearly an hour, which is raising eyebrows of folks. That is how that is being reported. Joining me now to discuss, former ambassador to the ukraine, steven piper, he was also a Foreign Service officer at the embassy in moscow, he knows this area, very, very well. Great to see both of you. Ambassador first to you, on this conversation, the white house is describing this all as no big deal. In a statement, when they finally acknowledged that this conversation between the president s took place, the white house said this, that it is not only perfectly normal, its part of the president s duty to interact with World Leaders. Is this perfectly normal . Certainly the president needs to be talking to World Leaders including president putin, i guess the thing that was surprising about this discussion, other than the fact that it was not previously disclosed was after spending two hours with president putin in a meeting earlier today, at the dinner, he chose to spend another hour with president putin, and then also the absence of another american there. Part of the problem was, the interpreter that President Trump had was a japanese interpreter because he was seated next to the wife of the japanese prime minister. But it might have been smart for the president to take that person along to get a record of the conversation. What now is that secretary of state tillerson, and National Security adviser general mcmaster, they dont have a record of that meeting, what commitments might have been made so its hard for them to follow up on whatever discussions took place during that hourlong discussion. One of the reasons this conversation became known is that a well known political scientist said that folks in the room were alarmed, concerned and disturbed by what they saw there, has the white house responded to that concern . They havent specifically responded to that. They do think the entire idea that he chatted with putin is ridiculous, but obviously there are a lot of concerns in the fact that it wasnt disclosed and it sort of follows a pattern that President Trump has taken leaving the translators who work for the state department in the dark. Despite that this man was a translator in japanese for shinzo abe, he could have asked for a russian interpreter. I think its this idea that trump has been defiant, most people would be tip toeing around someone who he has been accused of colluding with. With the president of the United States, they might be more careful about revealing details inside of a meeting, but with trump, i guess they were fine with sort of in a way ratting him out. The fact that the president , as you sort of got to, the issue of the translator, the fact that he engaged in this hourlong conversation with the russian president , with only the russian provided translator present, how confident can trump with what was said . The interpreter had an interest in interpreting correctly. So i wouldnt worry about that so much, its just the absence of a record. When i was in the clinton administration, we would always want a transcript of the conversation so we could say this is what the president said, this is what he has agreed to, this is what we need to follow up on, and without that record, its going to be very difficult for the president to function. Thats where the mistake was here. The other thing that i find a bit surprising here, is that given all this cloud thats been hanging over the white house the past couple of months about possible collusion with russia, that there was someone there to keep the record would have been a way for the president to protect himself. Now you see a gathering storm because there was no one there with him when he talked to putin and now theres no way to prove what was said. That is the order of how these things are going when it comes to russia. Well be right back after this. When this bell rings. It starts a chain reaction.
