The Press Conference about to get under way in Chester County, pennsylvania as the search enters its now 11th day. And this comes as Officials Say cavalcante is no longer in the phoenixville area even though he was spotted there last night after changing his appearance. You are seeing some of the latest photographs. They will present better explanations as to how they are inviting the residents of the community, passers by, anyone to help in their ongoing search more than 400 Law Enforcement officers are all part of the search. Lets listen in. Good afternoon. Joining me today is District Attorney deb ryan, chief county detective, and also rob clark from the u. S. Marshals office, and also Jamie Mulligan from the fbi, and commander andrew regan and also the director from Chester County emergency management. And there have been significant number of developments in this investigation over the past 24 hours. Earlier this morning, at approximately 12 30 a. M. , psp was made aware of a sighting. Our investigation yielded the following occurrences. Sometime during the evening september 9, Danelo Cavalcante stole a 2020 Ford Transit Van from about three quarters of a mile from the pefrrimeter we we maintaining. It was not noticed until we canvassed for a possible stolen vehicle after a reported citing. It was determined that cavalcante used the van and traveled to that area. And at 9 52 p. M. , he attempted to contact an individual he had known and worked with several years prior. Cavalcante spoke with the individual via video door well at this residence and inquired about meeting with that individual. The individual was at dinner with his family and did not respond to meet cavalcante. Cavalcante left that residence. The homeowner eventually returned home, reviewed his Doorbell Recording and called local police. Psp received a call about this sighting and the next at 12 30 in the morning on september 10, 2023. This was our first indication that cavalcante had been able to travel from the area of Longwood Gardens. Photos of calfvalcante were downloaded and provided to the media. Some are here adjacent to the podium. You will note he is now clean shaven and wearing a bright green hooded sweat shirt. Investigators were also made aware of another sighting in the phoenixville area in which cavalcante appeared at a residence of another old Work Associate at 10 07 p. M. That associate was not home but a female resident observed cavalcante and called her friend. That friend responded to the residence and eventually placed a call to local police. Police investigated and then notified psp. During that investigation, there was an skags of a white vehicle possibly being used by cavalcante. And updated photo was provided to state and local Law Enforcement at 2 30 a. M. Using the description provided, at 5 20 a. M. , investigators identified a vehicle from the Longwood Gardens area which fit the description of the vehicle operated by cavalcante. Upon contacting the vehicle owner, the owner realized that their vehicle had been stolen. Further investigation revealed the keys had been left in the vehicle. Law enforcement nationwide was immediately notified of the theft and an alert was provided to state and local Law Enforcement at 5 37 a. M. After a search the vehicle was discovered abandoned in a field behind a barn at 10 40 a. M. Investigators have been searching the area around that location since that time. And we are obviously very concerned that cavalcante has or will attempt to steal another vehicle to facilitate his escape. We ask for the publics help by familiarizing themselves with the updated photographs and description of cavalcante. To check Security Cameras they have. And to call us immediately if they believe that they may have seen him. Again, we ask residents to please secure homes, O Outbuildings and vehicles. The most recent incident is a reminder that he will take advantage of any opportunity to obtain items he needs. It is also imperative that anyone with information about cavalcante contact us immediately so that we can act on it in a timely manner. I have told you from the start of this manhunt that we were Conducting A Multi Facetted Investigation which includes strong investigative and technological components. Those aspects become even more important now. We will aggressively continue this investigation with our federal, state, county and local partners until we successfully bring cavalcante back into custody. Cavalcante is considered extremely dangerous and there is a reward of up to 20,000 offered for information leading to his capture. I assure you that we are doing Everything Possible to bring this to a successful resolution as quickly as possible. And i also want to make mention of a special thank you to Longwood Gardens. T i will tell you that for some time the past several days weve had to essentially take over that property and they have been very, very accommodating and i appreciate that. Not everyone, not every business, or organization, would be as accommodating so i thank them. And with that, i will be happy as will the others here to take any questions that you may have. 400 officers within the perimeter, and yet he somehow slipped through and spotted in phoenixville . How do you explain that . Well, as ive said from the very beginning, there are a number of challenges in any investigation. No perimeter is 100 secure. Ever. We did a very good job and i will tell you, i applaud the men and women who were out there standing in very different conditions and trying to secure that perimeter. I wont make an excuse to you. I wish it had not happened. Unfortunately, there are a lot of circumstances, there are a lot of issues associated with that property. Tunnels, very large drainage ditch, things that could not be secured, you couple that with weather, aviation being down for a night, there are a number of reasons. Again, no excuses. We gave it a good effort and i applaud there are underground tunnels . There are. And blueprints along the gardens, did the management facilitate you . They did help us with blueprints and there is additional construction that also has other tunnels and Drainage Areas under construction. They cannot be secured. It is that simple. So you do the best you can with any given circumstance. No difference when it is a wooded search or when there are challenges with every one of them. So we do the very best that we can and i applaud our people. I wish that he had not been able to slip through there, but that does happen sometimes. And that is why we dont simply rest on our laurels and say, okay, well take one approach. I will tell you to give you some idea, i broit you all in here on friday and showed you the scope of this. I nearly doubled the planning for 7 00 tomorrow morning. Our plan was to go to close to 600 members of Law Enforcement do one massive sweep of that entire piece of property. There is a huge amount of planning that goes in to that and working around weather and some of the other things. So not for a lack of trying that this occurred. Well fall back as we do in any investigation, well fall back to Something Else and in the end im confident that well capture him and bring him back into the criminal justice system. Where is the focus now . Currently were up in the northern part of the county. I do not have a perimeter secured up there. Were searching an area around where we recovered the van. But there are a number of other a number of other pieces of information that are in play that dont require perimeter and are the focus of our efforts at this point. His mom was assisting you earlier but were hearing that his sister was arrested by i. C. E. . That is accurate. Is his family cooperating, do you believe that he is getting assistance from Family Members or anyone snelgs. I wont comment as as to what assistance he may or may not be receiving. But we take steps to try to eliminate that assistance. What is the focal point of the search right now . The physical search right now is near that recovery of that van. But a number of other things in play that are equally or more important. And do you still believe that he is in pennsylvania and probably Chester County . Have other Special Forces come in the last few hours, anything about the victims family . I do believe that he is still in pennsylvania. The victims family remains under protection and we assure them that they will be fully protected through all of this. And whafgt was the other and support from other states . Yes, as always, we adjust. I mentioned the planning going into tomorrows efforts. We are bringing even more resources in. What were doing now is shifting again based on the nature of how i see the investigation playing out and Going Forward, all of our partners here are doing an amazing job of shifting now and bringing in the resources that we need to bear. Yes, sir. You can repeat the location of where the van was located . And also this video or these images that are you sharing, what has the person shared, what is he saying to the ring camera, what is he asking for . Does this tell you that he is trying to get support from associates . So the first part of the question, East Nantmeal township in Chester County. The second part i wouldnt be specific, but yes he is absolutely ill give a general characterization. He is absolutely looking for support. Needs the support. He doesnt have it. How did he get from Longwood Gardens over there and nobody saw him . How come nobody saw him . Well, maam, first of all youve got darkness, you have a variety of Weather Conditions and you have some fairly rugged ter terrain. And i mentioned drainage ditches, underground tunnel, all those things. A lot of factors. Until we capture him and i or others have an opportunity to interview and if he would share that, we wont know. Until then, i dont know how he got over there. I wish i did. I could speculate on a couple of possibilities, but i can tell that you again no perimeter is 100 secure. We do the best we can. Most sometimes we can secure it adequately. And these images from the doorbell camera, they were from his acquaintances home . These were from, yes when i say acquaintance, someone he had worked with several years ago. Im not suggesting that never a relationship with him now. It was someone that he has worked with but he sought out their assistance. Any indication that he might have a weapon or anything . I dont have any substantive proof right now that he has a weapon. But clearly he has been in resi residences, businesses, and in vehicles at least one that i cant say what may or may not have been in any of those locations that he had access to. How much has this cost so far . Im not tracking the cost right now. Were doing what it takes to successfully run the investigation. In terms of what we need, i will tell you that our partners have been amazing. Anything that ive asked for, anything that they have suggested because there is a lot of expertise standing behind me and in the room over here, anything that has been reasonably suggested by any of, each of us steps up and accommodates with the resources. But what will you use to try to elevate the search . I wont go into detail, but ive suggested all along that there are a number of investigative and technological pieces to be brought to bear. That is where it shifts until such time as we have him in a position where we can taken and capture him. Are you a any vigilantes trying to help or citizen cops out there . Yes, i have heard that is the case. And what do you reconcile what the professionals are doing with what the amateurs are doing, are thenning . They are not helping. In fact they are a hindrance. Some of the resources have to be diverted. So i ask that they not do it. But you know, i cant stop them in some cases from doing it. Are you prepared to characterize it as a nationwide manhunt . Hes broken the perimeter, access to a vehicle, to potentially leave the state . Question have always looked at the potential that it could be a nationwide manhunt. The resources that are standing here with me already make it a nationwide manhunt. The information is being shared as appropriate across the country. This morning before we even had a full picture, the information was being shared with appropriate Law Enforcement across the country. So we keep the Law Enforcement partners apprised of the progress. Or the setbacks for that matter. And you know, we work with them as necessary. So certainly Going Forward any information that we think is appropriate or could even potentially be utilized by partners will be shared. And the agencies represented here are in a position to do that. Do you think that the intel, prison guards, prosecutor, do you think that they underestimated how resourceful he is, how resilient is he . Pretty impressive so far how hes been able to get around. No, i dont think that anyone underestimated him. I think that everyone knows that, you know, he is somebody that comes from a background where he has endured some hardship and no doubt that he is willing to endure hardship right now. His choice is to go to prison for the rest of his life. He chooses not to do that. Unfortunately that is not what is going to prevail in the lon r long run. He is very determined. And were more determined that he will be held to justice and well bring him back into custody. Do we know where he got the hoodie and razor for shave . Was it at the dairy farm . The hoodie was, i dont know about the razor. And some people in phoenixville helped him as he tried to escape . Is the gentleman that he tried to reach out to one of those people . I am aware of that information and i dont want to comment any further on that right now. August 22nd is when he was convicted. And he might have had contact with people. Any chance upon that conviconviction and people that he was talking with that he happen this had plan to escape on a certain day . It looked like he had help from the watch dog guy there in the prison. Any thought that he started this whole process upon the day that he was convicted . Anyway to tell . I dont know that there is a way to tell that it was that specific day. Do i think that he has been trying to plot this, yes. Do i think that he took advantage of an opportunity that presented itself that other inmates told him about from a different inmate escaping that way . Yes, i think that he took advantage of that opportunity. But he has any number of opportunities from the time that he is convicted or even prior to, to have contact with his attorney, with Family Members, and so forth. And so at any point along the way, the plot could be happened or could be continued as it goes on. At this point, im not in a position to say that on a specific day that is where it was hatched. What is your message to those who may be trying to assist him and what kind of charges could they face . They will be prosecuted vigorously if we can prove that they assisted him. And the depends on the type of assistance. Im certain that the District Attorney is well prepared to prosecute anyone who assists in any way. Do we know anything about where he worked in Chester County prior to the murder in 2021 . He seemed to know the area pretty well. And were secret Service Called in at all . Yes, we have a lot of information on his background and all of that factors in. Secret service would be one of many federal partners that has access to information. And certainly anything that might pertain not only to anybody that lives here but visits or so forth, they would have 23u8 full access to and the Mushroom Farm that he worked . I wont go into his background, but weve looked in to that. What is joyour level of confidence that you have an idea of where he is . If i knew where he was, wed catch him and bring him it in. But im confident that well get where he is. He got out. We found the vehicle, where he abandoned it. And im confident that we will continue aggressively proceeding on this search and this investigation. And well eventually capture him. Im not prepared to say that will be today or tomorrow, but i hope sooner rather than later. And you have the resources out. Any confidence that he is in that area . Well still searching and well try to either capture him or eliminate that as a possibility what did you find inside the van and why do you believe that he may have ditched it . I dont have a complete accounting of everything that was in the van. Quite frankly, ive been busy with a number of other things. But i have talented people working on that, some of the folks back here have been directly involved in those operations. What i would telling you is that we take all of that information and factor that in as we go forward. And i would also tell that you one of the reasons that i believe he dumped that vehicle is a lack of fuel. Any indication or any other reports of stolen vehicles in that area . I dont have a report of a stolen vehicle. I anticipate that we will. Still 400 people searching on the ground or are we upping the number looking for him . Were adjusting the numbers as we speak. And again, it is really it will be determined by what the conditions require. There is no point in having resources stand around, conversely i never want to be in a position where i wish i had more and didnt have them here. So we try to anticipate and well adjust as needed. Investigating how he was able to breach the perimeter, but have you been able to pinpoint where in the perimeter that he was able to slip through or general consensus of the area . Ive not conclusively determined that. I have my suspicions of how i believe that happened. Can you share that . No. Because i dont know conclusively. But again, i knew where the weaknesses were. And i think perhaps one of those weaknesses came into play here. And at what point does another agency take over if he is in fact spotted across state lines . At that point we certainly have all the federal partners here. The u. S. Marshals take the lead anytime you start crossing state lines. And they are a huge partner in all of this. We work handinhand. We have people deputized along with their marshals and work with them every day. And so this will be seamless if it ever does trance tigs across the state line. Right now no indication that that is the case, but if it does, it wont change the investigation much at all. And it simply we would also then simply transition in another state Police Agency or whoever the lead investigative entity is in that state. What is your message to the community . They have been watching you chase this guy, this is day 11, a lot of scrutiny coming toward your agency that you let him slip you through the fperimeter people are losing faith. I dont think people are losing faith. I think they understand that were giving this 100 effort and im proud of the effort. And ill take responsibility for it. I lead this effort with them and im proud to do it. I appreciate the support weve gotten from the community. I think that the community recognizes that in any kind of a major operation like this, there are simply times things dont go the way you planned. That happens in investigations, it happens in manhunts, it happens in all kinds of things. Ive had a long career in Law Enforcement and rarely do things happen exactly as i planned. That is why did you are smart, you are planning contingencies and you are ready to adapt. This is a minor setback. B well get him. It is a matter of time. And can you comment on [ inaudible ]. There are immigration issues. Beyond that, i dont have any comment. Have you interviewed or gotten in touch with the people that helped him in as i said earlier, im aware of that information but im not prepared to discuss what actions weve taken with regard to it. Weve been getting tips about a sighting at a church, a Church Parking lot . I dont have any information about that. Any chance he is still in phoenixville . Just one second. When he is caught, what happens, is there any addition tacked on to it . He did be charged and there can be an addition put on. There is already a commitment that he will go directly to a State Correctional Facility when captured and well work through the rest of what occurs at that point. Did anybody see him driving the white van or could it have been Somebody Else . Somebody else ditched the van . No, im confident it was him in the van. Are you able to establish a perimeter that he seems to have gone farther . As i said earlier, a large perimeter is not the answer in every single investigation or at every point in an investigation. And so we established a small temporary perimeter. Were Still Holding that in that area while we finish that search. If it is not successful, there is no reason to hold that perimeter. I mentioned to you that there were a number of delays in the reporting of this to us. So we would look to other opportunities to further the investigation. Perhaps later today, perhaps tomorrow, perhaps the day after if it still goes on that long, there may be a need for another significant perimeter like we had here. And if so, well absolutely do that and well do our best to capture him at that time. [ Inaudible Question ] i dont want to offer any opinion on that right now. [ Inaudible Question ] ive said before, there are varying degrees of confidence. I think that it is fair to say eight or nine easily. And so many people were at the festival Yesterday And Today and so many people expressed how grateful they are to Law Enforcement coming in, county, state, federal, to keep the Community Safe which you have this weekend here. For the people who live here locally, you can give us insight into where he was hiding specifically overnight, any evidence of anywhere that he might have slept as efforts have been going on since prior to labor day . No, there is really not anything that i can disclose now. He seems to have gone west about 11 miles. Behind the wheel and literally ran out of gas. As you try to make up for ground lost, where do you think he was going . Again, i think that he is looking for assistance and i think that he had reason to do that. Where would he be his next stop . I wont go any further. And the church, people said that they saw a white van and another car. Have you investigated that 1234. We have investigated it but i didnt realize that is the church that you are talking about that there. There was an incident at and confirmed or yes, just it doesnt the aspect i saw didnt involve the church. Another Car Involveded in people said that there was a white van with another car inv involved. No. No. [ Inaudible Question ] i wont talk about where we have assets at this point, but i think it is reasonable to think that Law Enforcement assets given the number of people that weed a assigned to this, very reasonable to think that there were assets anywhere that would be appropriate to do so. Very re there were assets anywhere that would be appropriate to do so. [ Inaudible Question ] certainly he is a very determined individual. And so one of the challenges that we face is if people dont heed our advice and as we had here, a vehicle unlocked with keys in it, that makes our job more difficult and it makes it much easier for him to succeed in various aspects of his escape efforts. We want to make it as sdikts as possible for him. And we ask for cooperation in trying to do that. [ Inaudible Question ] it was absolutely the right thing to do. We come strengthen it as we bring it in. It wasnt a matter of him being outside the perimeter. He was in there. We had sightings once the perimeter was strengthened. Simply a matter of you cant guarantee 100 of the time that you can contain somebody with a perimeter of that size even. There is video and audio of this intersection, but you are not releasing it . Not at this time, no. Eventually . I dont know. That is to be determined. What we wanted to do is let the pin kno public know what his appearance is right now and so we took some of the best stills out of that video. The rest of it is not necessarily so important. This is what hears in terms but why not just be fully transparent about everything that i think that weve been exceptionally transparent through this investigation. And at some point perhaps i will release the video. This has been glued investglued flud i had investigation. Most of the people here probably havent slept an hour. So my focus is not on how can i max izimize the content that i push out, but how do i maximize the content necessary to effectively move this investigation forward and that is what were trying to do. Well make decisions on the video. Nothing to hide with the video. Just that it takes more effort and things away from the other investigative steps that were taking. So for right now, we hurried up and got stills ready to release those. Any human trafficking, gangga gangga gangaffiliations . There are some in the past but i wouldnt speculate right now. [ Inaudible Question ] never discounted that. Not just mexico, but any international escape evident shouldnt be considered. Those are always things that have been taken into account right from the very start. Again, when i talk about having contingency planning, were trying to make sure that that cant happen. Is is it overstating it to say you dont know where he is right now, generally, specifically . Do i know a specific spot where he is in no. Do i have generally an idea . Probably. But not specifically enough that i could say lets put a hard perimeter up right now. That general area that he is in [ Inaudible Question ] yes. When he was sentenced, why was [ Inaudible Question ] maam, that is not a decision that i have any input or anything else about. I can tell you that. Those decisions are made by judges and others in the judicial system. Do you still have the same order to shoot on sight for grour your troopers . I have let that order stand that deadly force is authorized if he is not actively surrendering, yes. And for those agencies that are under the Department Of Justice they have their own use of force rules. And what are they . I would let them speak for themselves about that. You can comment on where exactly you believe he changed his appearance . No, i reaaeally cant offer opinion on where he shaved. And there are some am might be communities. Have authorities been in touch with them . Weve legal order our partnerses if relied on our partners. Were trying to do our best as appropriate to get information out to each of those communities. And certainly if we thought there was a specific threat in the am might be might be community, wed focus efforts there. But were keeping everybody informed. And how is the morale of everybody . You know, morale is good. People have heard me say this from the beginning. Ive done this many, many times. And not always to this size and extent. But weve done these so many times. It is a roller coaster. There are ups and downs. There always are. All of a sudden it will be resolved. Important thing is hopefully we dont get anyone in the community hurt and we dont get any of our people hurt and we bring it to a successful conclusion. It will happen. One more point of clarification about the dairy farm. The family inside working but they didnt notice their van 234 no, the family was sleeping and it was overnight. And so they didnt notice their van was missing until Law Enforcement correct. In the Early Morning hours this morning. Okay. All right. Again, i thank you all. You are listen took a Live Press Conference from pennsylvania authorities explaining how they are expanding their search area for Danelo Cavalcante, some 11 days now after he escaped prison. He was most recently seen and recorded on doorbell video. Authorities saying that he went to former Work Associates homes and they have now dispensed these image as, these still image as. He is now clean shaven and last seen wearing a green hoodie. And authorities also found a whites van he allegedly took. He was able to take that because the keys were left in the car at a residence. And they have since found that vehicle abandoned. Lets talk further about the search. Focus still on pennsylvania. And joining me is ed davis. Commissioner, what did you hear from that Press Conference that revealed a little bit more about how the search is expanding, what more they are learning about this fugitive and how confident they should feel that ultimately they will be able to locate him . A few things that the Lieutenant Colonel mentioned that i think were important. One is that when the suspect comes out from the forest or the jungle in the case of his last foray, it changes the whole focus of the search. It actually makes it a little easier for Police Officers in the United States to conduct it. If you are looking for a vehicle and someone is on the roads in a car that you may or may not have a description of, it is a lot easier than putting dog on the ground in a forest. You are dealing with a cunning and experienced suspect here. And so one of the things that i heard the luiten Ieutenant Coloy that there is a not a perimeter of the location where they found the vehicle. And they are assuming that another vehicle may have been stolen. So that moves the whole search in a different direction. Notifying states, city and town police to watch the roadways for any suspicious activity, possibly with a description of a vehicle that this guy might have got his hands on. If they are able to determine that vehicle was stolen in the area where that van was dumped, then they have a pretty good idea that this is the vehicle that he is in. And in that case, it wont take long to find him. And we also heard from the Lieutenant Colonel saying that while they need the assistance from the public, they also need the public not to make it easy. In this case keys were left in that vehicle. And that made it essentially easy for the suspect to acquire. Talk to me too about the familiarity that investigators often will look at if takes fugitive, someone will likely go to areas that they are familiar with, try to reach out to family that they are familiar with for assistance, and in this case former coworkers, there might be Family Members involved, et cetera. Talk to me about how investigators try to get ahead customarily of things in searches like this, looking for people, a suspect that might gravitate toward. Right. That is a very good point. People focus on the search occurring on the ground. Conversations about 400 people and helicopters answes and dron things. But this the background, there is an Investigation Ive Effort G pursued. There are investigators looking at every relative that he has in the United States. They are looking at every place that he has lived in the past. And they are looking at every place where he has worked. And in this particular case, he has actually from when ive heard, he went to the home 6 a former coworker. He knows that he needs help. His best way out of this is to have someone assist him and get him out of the area in a vehicle and try to blend in with the community somewhere. Im sure that is what he is thinking right now. So they have to do everything that they can to identify those locations, those people that he may go to for help, and try to get to them first and explain to them that there are ramifications. The four individuals that helped Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after the bombing are tried and quconvict. This is serious experience. And that experience in the Boston Marathon bombing, you helping to lead that search for the suspects. And so your expertise here is invaluable in that we heard from this Lieutenant Colonel that he said that he felt fairly confident that this specific, Danelo Cavalcante, is looking for assume. He doesnt have it. And it is evident by his Reaching Outfor assume. He doesnt have it. And it is evident by his reaching out to people that he thought might be able to help him. But we havent hurt from investigators what the content of conversation may have been like through the video doorbell cameras. Or what it is that he is asking for. Based on that kind of information that investigators get, how important is it going to be, how vital will that information be in hugh they concentrate their Search Efforts . Well, it could be life or death. This is a man who has nothing to lose. If he identifies a resource and asks for help, if that person says no, it is likely that they could be injured. If the officers identify, detectives working on this case, identify a likely person or place that this guy may go to, they will stake it out and watch for him and hopefully intervene before he actually has kacontac with someone. But needs a vehicle and he needs to get out of the area. Whether by train or motor vehicle, he is desperate. And desperate people do desperate things. So this is a dangerous situation in pennsylvania. Talk to me about the balance that investigators need in term of the publics prt pace. Wh participation. Youunder scored the potential dangers and the victims family has already received additional protection. So explain how people are being asked to tread lightly yet at the same time be very alert. The Lieutenant Colonel mentioned that someone left thkeys in the car and he could exploit that. He has moved 20, 30 miles away. And 400 people have to relocate and there is also a perception that maybe he could get into another vehicle. So people have to be vigilant. A lot of people have the impression that this cant happen here. But it can. And especially in pennsylvania right now. You should be taking steps to protect yourself, to secure your assets and make sure that you dont have anything out that somebody could take. Even bicycles or Four Wheel Drive vehicles, things like that. The place needs to be locked down until the guy is in custody. You are helps yourself and your neighbors and not only the police. But i think that the colonel did a good job of explaining that to people and hopefully people will be more vigilant especially in that area. All right. The search for Danelo Cavalcante intensifies. The collapse of the pac12 last month was swift and stunning, but oregon state and Washington State, the two schools left behind by realignment are taking the fight to court, trying to salvage what remains of the once Proud College core conference. Friday officials of the two remaining schools went to court seeking a Restraining Order against the conference commissioner trying to prevent a Board Meeting planned for next week that would include every school, even those that have chosen to leave the pac12. Washington and auoregon state me their choice and should not be able to vote. They say they have been members of the pac12 for more that a century. The ten departing members no longer share this goal. On the contrary, they are now motivated to dissolve the pac12 and distribute its assets. According to court documents, the pac had12 ended the year w 27 million in assets and the two schools dont believe that money should belong to those who chose to leave. Weve been a Charter Member of pac12 and a member for over a hundred years. We are oregons statewide university with huge connections all across the state and there are beavers all across the state deeply connected to the pac12. Osu and wsu are the two remaining members of the pac12 and we believe that we should be the ones controlling the future of the pac12 because the others have chosen to leave. So, in other words, you dont want them, as coy was just explaining in his piece, you dont want the other members to be able to attend a meeting upcoming. You would prefer, for now, that in attendance at that meeting would just be osu and Washington State university and together these two universities will make a decision ultimately about whether to invite any other colleges into the pac12 since right now your feeling is its only being represented by two universities right now . Indeed. We are the two universities that are deeply invested in the future of the pac12 and so all decisions about the pac12 should be made by the universities that remain. What will happen to the millions of dollars in assets for the pac12 . If indeed these other ten universities, colleges, would be able to be in attendance to help make determination about the future of pac12, how do you suppose that money should be divvied up . Well, we are trying to find out what the assets and liabilities are and its our intent to use those assets and liabilities wisely. As the two deciders of who control these assets, we plan to make strong Business Decisions and be consultive with the ten who have chosen to leave but our assertion is we are the two urts t universities who get to decide how to use these assets Going Forward. Do you feel that ultimately it will be a decision whether to dissolve the pac12 altogether or do you believe osu and wsu will be able to say we want to keep a pac12, we just have to recruit other colleges and universities to be part of it in. We are trying to figure that out right now. We believe the pac12 has an amazing legacy, both academically and athletically. We believe that it could have a future so were trying to figure out how to make that future happen and were trying our hardest to look at all our assets and liabilities and all the interest that there still is in the pac12 brand and name and to make wise decisions Going Forward about the pac12s future. Its not only oh, im sorry. I know, its not going to be easy. And i wonder can you express to us, you know, how this Conference Realignment has already impacted your university or even, up know, that of your other students or, you know, between Washington State and oregon state, how ishas it impacted these campuses . Well, the impacts have been big of course, but the thing is that osu is doing amazingly well. We are a university of 35,000 students, almost half A Billion Dollars in research funding, many, many top programs and our Football Team is a top 16 right n and this is a phenomenal university. So the damage done to the pac12 has come as a huge shock to many of our fans. In fact, all of our fans all across oregon and the country. Theres anger and theres actually deep sadness because our communities are so tightly connected to the beavers and to football and i do want to say that our city of corvalis is affected, too. There are communities all around oregon State University and Washington State university that feel the brunt of a decision of this kind. So the fallouts are brig and th decisions are therefore big and serious ones and were working hard to contain the damage from this decision
