Two days later after this video of her sort of stumbling into this van getting a little help actually came out. A passerby recording this with staffers helping her into that suv. We know she had to cut her appearance short. This was an event commemorating september 11th. Were also learning that both donald trump and Hillary Clinton will be released more medical records this week. In the meantime, donald trump is sending secretary clinton well wishes. Well, i hope she gets well soon. I dont know whats going on. Im like you, i see what i see. The coughing fit was a week ago, so i assume that was pneumonia also. I mean, i think it would have been, so somethings going on. I just hope she gets well and gets back on the trail and well be seeing her at the debate. The key question is we know the campaign knew shefgs sick, specifically she had pneumonia friday. Why did it take you all 48 hours to tell the public . Well, you know, brooke, she just wanted to power through. She knew she had pneumonia on friday, but she had a really important schedule. She had a meeting here in new york city on friday with leading National Security experts to talk about solutions to global terrorism. She did a press conference and she had an event that night. You know, on sunday it was very important to her to attend the 9 11 memorial. I appreciate all of her desire to power through. But the issue is, and i know its transparency. You all said initially she overheat when actuality she has pneumonia. Why not say pneumonia from the get . This is on us. It was very important for her to attend the memorial on sunday morning. She was out in the sunday for an hour and a half. She felt overheat and wanted to leave. As soon as she got in the car and air conditioning and had water, she felt us that was on us, the campaign. She wanted to go to her daughters house and play with her granddaughter. It was our mistake for taking too long to inform people. We wanted to make sure she was okay and we wanted to get in touch with her doctor and have her talk with her and meet with her that afternoon and then we released a statement from her doctor as soon as that happened. The issue that obviously critics and folks who are still trying to decide in these waning weeks, its the trust issue. How can we trust Hillary Clinton. Shes caught fainting and stumbling into this suv. The question on some voters minds is, had that video not been released, would we have known at all . How would you respond to those critics . Honestly, she just wanted to power through her schedule. She wanted to get it all done. She got a little overheat and dizzy but felt better immediately and then we put that statement out. You know, i think wasnt there concern forgive me. Wasnt there a concern because of these crazy conspiracies, these concerns floating out there to not disclose, to withhold until you absolutely had to Say Something . No, no. I can say, brooke, i was involved in all of this yesterday. Honestly, our first concern was just to make sure she was okay and talk to her doctor and make sure she was able to see her doctor on sunday. We always intended to put out that information. And we did as soon as she as soon as she met with that doctor. I have to say, this is in real stark contrast to donald trump who, as you know, has not put out a complete medical history, not released his taxes. The comparison between these two candidates and how transparent theyve been is stark. Trust me, i know a lot of people would love to see his tax returns. Thats something the media will continue demanding of him. We both know both of your cam campaigns are releasing more medical records later this week. We know shes having to sit out for tleast the next 48 hours. Will you send bill clinton to the fundraiser in cal . If hillary had her way, she would object a plane today. She always wants to get to work and power through. We encouraged her to take her doctors advice. She has allergies which resulted in the cough and then she has pneumonia. Were giving her a day off so will bill clinton hop a plane instead . You know what, we are working out those details as we speak. Okay. One of the questions i think someone was on with me last hour and do the full mccain. What john mccain did, releasing all of his medical records and allow journalists like our chief medical correspondent sanjay gupta to sit and pore through them. Theres a precedent for that. You know, brooke, she already put out a year ago, unlike donald trump, a comprehensive medical history. Were talking to her doctor. Were going to put out very much more soon. We just want to put aside any lingering concerns about this. Shes very strong and very healthy. This is unrelated to her to what happened in 2012, which she fully recovered from. This is the only condition that she has. Final but were going to put out more from her doctor. Well be looking for it. Final question on her health, youve seen donald trump es sishlly saying, listen, he was asked about, this saying i dont know anything about it and i wish her well. Does the campaign give him any credit for taking the classy route on this one . You know, we appreciate that he wishes her well. You know, shes going to be right back out on the campaign trail. I expect in the next few days because the stakes in this election are so high. Shes going to be talking about why shes the right choice to be our president because she plans to make a real difference in peoples lives. Lets move on to the comment she made friday at a fundraiser in new york. First, let me play the comments and then Donald Trumps response today. Here we go. Just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of trumps supporters into what i call the basket of deplorables. Right . The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, islamophobic, you name it. I was deeply shocked and alarmed this friday to hear my opponent attack slander, smear, demean these wonderful, amazing people, who are supporting our campaign. It was, perhaps, the most explicit attack on the American Voter ever spoken by a major Party President ial nominee. Total disrespect for the people of our country. So, on secretary clinton, we know over the weekend, you know, she expressed her regrets, but from you, i just want to understand specifically what is it that she regrets . Well, she made this clear. What she said is she regrets saying half. That was certainly too generalistic. Thats not what she meant. On saturday morning she wanted to correct that immediately and apologize because thats what hillary is. She takes responsibility and apologizing when Something Like this happens. She just wanted to say, she didnt intend half. But the larger point she stands by, which is many of his supporters say deplorable things. She believes that he should denounce the support of the former leader of the kkk who supports him. I mean, lets keep in mind that donald trump is someone who has encouraged these kind of what used to be fringe extremists. Hes given them a real platform. And she believes their values are unamerican. But he has denounced david duke, just so were all on the same page. He has denounced david duke. You know this. Shes running to be the president of all of the United States of america. And so whether theyre Trump Supporters or not, should she not insult them . This is what shes saying. They are trafficking in hatred and bigotry. He is retweeting white supremacists. David duke said himself the White National movement is growing because of donald trump because hes an important part of that growth. So, that is really problematic to hillary. She doesnt believe that that reflects American Values and shes going to stand by calling out just incredible hatred and big bigotry. She doesnt think thats right. All right, kristina schake, thank you. Thank you. With me to discuss i have cnns chief medical correspondent, dr. Sanjay gupta, cnn analyst jackie kucinich, Washington Bureau chief for the daily beast. Breanna, since youve been covering Hillary Clinton since the beginning before the beginning. Before the beginning of all this, was there anything that kristina said that surprised you . No. I think heats what weve been hearing from the campaign, and we also heard brian fallon say earlier, that pneumonia is the one thing that is afflicting Hillary Clinton. Where you see the campaign in this position of pushing back on some of these unfounded assertions by donald trump surrogates that theres a bigger issue to Hillary Clintons health and perhaps the fact that she had a concussion in 2012, she hasnt fully recovered from that. Of course those in the clinton circle say is definitely not true. So you know, they found themselves in this position where theyve had to come out and say Hillary Clinton has pneumonia two days after she actually got the diagnosis and theyre trying to be very clear now that thats it. Sanjay gupta, what are your Unanswered Questions on her health . Well, you know, sort of regarding this pneumonia, its interesting, as everyone knows now, we got the information a couple of days after she was diagnosed. Which was good to get the information, but pneumonia is still a very big term. We dont know specifically what kind of pneumonia. We know shes on antibiotics. We dont know if this is bacterial or viral or something else. We dont know what medication shes getting. If she had a chest xray, we dont know what that showed. You may say, look, these are very specific questions, very important medical questions but how relevant in the relevancy is, you know, when people say, how long is it going to take for her to recover . When is she going to be back on her feet . I think its very hard for people to answer the question without knowing those basic things. Did she have a chest xray . If she did, what did it show . Everything i know, if youre north of 65, its very serious. You need to take a week off. And then throw in her insane travel schedule. Shes taking two days, according to the campaign so far. Whats your assessment of that . Well, you know, again, i would i will preface by saying, i still dont feel like i have enough information to answer that. Look, there are people who can be in a hospital in an icu with pneumonia and people who have the more walking pneumonia who seem to be getting around okay. Im not sure where she really falls in that. Again, there is a notion that some of that is important, not just because those are medical details. Realize some of that seems inside baseball, but it is relevant in terms of determining how shes going to do, how shes going to feel, what her travel schedule should be like. I think most doctors would not recommend travel, not necessarily because the pneumonia would get worse but because the symptoms would get worse. She just wouldnt feel well. She may have more difficulty with coughing or shortness of breath. So, things like that, those are relevant details. So, as far as jackie kucinich, the political repercussion of her not being on the trail for the next two days i kept trying to ask, will her husband fill her shoes and i got a sort of, well, were working on her schedule sort of answer. Whats the political impact of her being off the trail for at les two days . Well, its not only her being off the trail for two days, its the fact that this whole controversy reminded people why they dont like Hillary Clinton. The secrecy, not looking like they were telling the truth at first, the changing story, her walking out and waving to the crowd knowing she had been diagnosed with pneumonia 48 hours earlier. That in and of itself isnt great for the clinton campaign. Her being off the trail, they have a lot of highpowered surrogates that were planning on going on the trail. Tim contain is continuing on the trail, Michelle Obama will be on the trail. She has a lot of people picking up the pieces. I dont know these two days will make a huge difference in terms of what people think of her but its the scandal itself and the fact they werent up front with the press and by that the American People, about what her actual condition was. What about trump shlgts brianna, and trump camp saying he will release results of his physical later this week. Thats right. And to be clear, both of these candidates have not released a ton of information, but Hillary Clinton has much more out there than donald trump when it comes to health and certainly when it comes to tax returns and financial information. So, thats the issue for Hillary Clinton is now because of this, she finds herself in this place where shes on the defense even though donald trump hasnt put much out there. He said he had a physical last week. We dont know which doctor did it, if it was the doctor who put out that letter, which instead of sanjay can certainly attest to this. Instead of some medical characterizations, had really yeah, we talked about this. Said, hell be the healthiest president ever. Admitting he was influenced by spectacular. Thats right. Dr. Harold bornstein who said he was in a rush and his limo was waiting for him or whatnot, just very bizarre. Trump says hes got his physical information. That will come out when the numbers are out. So, i guess well learn ekg, Blood Pressure, cholesterol, hopefully all those things, which weve already seen from Hillary Clinton. So, were waiting for that. Im sure well loop back and talk then once we get all the details. Thank you. Reminder to all of you, tune in at 5 00 eastern when president ial Vice President candidate mike pence sits down with wolf blitzer in the situation room. Is clintons remark comparable to romneys 40 remark . Hillary clinton says shes willing to work with vladimir putin, but as one expert says, putin cant stand her. How the relationship went so awry. And two weeks from tonight, the two nominees square off in the very first president ial debate and now trump is floating the idea of not having a moderator at all. Well discuss that. Just another day at norfolk southern. Welcome back. Im brooke baldwin. This is cnn. Just a short time ago donald trump blasted Hillary Clinton at the National Conference in baltimore for saying half his supporters are, quote, basket of deplorables. Trump is now pouncing on her comments calling her divisive. We have the support of cops and soldiers, carpenters, we would welders, young and oung, millions of working class family who just want a Better Future and a good job. These were the people Hillary Clinton so viciously demonized. These were among the countless americans that Hillary Clinton called deplorabldeplorable, irr and unamerican. Nobodys heard anything like this. She called these patriotic men and women every vile name in the book. Secretary clinton says she regrets saying half of trumps supporters are deplorabldeplora. Let me bring in gregory cheadle, you may recognize him as the man who trump referred to some time ago at a rally as, quote, my africanamerican. Also with me, mark lamont hill, cnn commentator and professor at morehouse college. Gregory, to you first. You attended the trump rally. Last time we talked you said im 90 in support of donald trump, which i want to loop back with on that in a moment. But what do you think of Hillary Clintons comments . Unfortunately, i think its typical of politicians to see the voters as being unimportant. The only people who get the attention of politicians are donors. They tend not to care about the voters. What are you saying about Hillary Clinton specifically . Are you just saying this is typical of any politician . Youre not surprised . Im not surprised. People tend to speak what they feel. And, you know, she said what she said and i believe that she meant it. The problem is, again, when politicians have an elitist view of themselves and see the rest of us as defloplorabldeplorable problem. The people need to give back power instead of giving it to government and these politicians. Does it matter that she has said not all of the Trump Supporters are deplorable, but just those who espouse the xenophobic, racist rhetoric . Well, i mean, there are things to be said about people who are in favor of her. Theres enough racism, enough xenophobe yeah to go around with both parties. Its unfair to say what she said, half, so 49 is better . No. You know, she should not have said it. And the American People need to wake up and say, this is the type of person we want to represent us . No. Mark, do you agree with that . I dont agree with that. Look, im a green party supporter, im a jill stein supporter so i dont typically go on tv and defend Hillary Clinton. But i think Hillary Clinton was right this time. I think she has the right to talk about trumps supporters traffic in xenophobe and racism. To say half is an extraordinary number but at the very least people who support trump are willing to support a candidate who traffics in racism and xenophobe and often has people like david duke feeling empowered biz hi candidacy. Even if you dont identify as a racist, even if i would not identify you as a racist, the fact youre willing to support a campaign thats a safe haven, a rest haven even, is a problem. That was Hillary Clintons point, whether its 49 , 32 , is not the point. I dont think its an elitist position to say, i dont like racists, bigots, homophobes, thats a humanist position. Her camp is saying, all right, she made a mistake in quantifying it. Lets just say, which i think is what im hearing from you, that the premise is accurate. Still, dont you think its a mistake politically to insult any voter as she will be the president of all of the United States, if she wins . Well, no. Go ahead, marc. Thats a bit to me, that would be a bizarre logic. There are american rapists, there are american molesters, american serial killers. Yes, theyre still americans and im their president , i have a right to say, i dont like them. Similarly, i can say, im the president but i dont like racists. Thats okay. We heard from the Vice President moments ago jumping to her defense. Let me read what he told reporters. Quote, ive known hillary for a long, long time. She gets a bum rap. For every time she will Say Something where she says, well, maybe i should have said something different. Think if they held trump to that standard. Hed be in trouble. He is in trouble. We have taken on many things trump has said and dissected them often, but that said, marc, do you think there is a double standard . There is a double standard. I think we have normalized donald trump hes racism. You know what, thats just the donald, he says crazy things, racist things, so we dont have time to unpack everything he says so we just accept it. We accept the fact that its almost, what, one out of four statements he says is untrue. When all these things happen, we just say we normalize it. With Hillary Clinton we scrutinize it. Some of that because donald trump has been bizarrely and extravagantly bizarre. Some of that is gender. How would you respond to that . Well, hillary has no room to talk about someone else being a racist when she supported all these policies that resulted in the mass incarceration primarily of people of color. Look at the crack cocaine issue, look at taking food stamps away, taking housing away, taking pell grants away if you have a record. We imprison it 2. 3 Million People in the United States. 25 of the worlds prison population resides here. Do you care she has since said she regrets her comments . No. Because saying something and not doing anything to counteract what shes done makes no difference to me what receiver. Can you say whatever you want to say, but when you are responsible for the mass incarceration of people and color, saying your side does absolutely nothing and means yeah but gregory i didnt mean to interrupt you. You raise a logical fallacy. Both things can be true simultaneously. Hillary clinton is in support of troublesome policies in the 90s, that doesnt negate the fact that donald trump could be racist. They could both simultaneously be true, right . It could be true. But look who if youre saying both people are racists, which racist has done the most damage to the country . Thats clearly Hillary Clinton. Is that where we are, gentlemen . Thats where we are. , yeah i might be racist but not as racist as her. That final 10 of hesitation on donald trump, are you there . Are you supporting him . In all likelihood he will get my vote. Hillary is sinking more and more each day. Okay. You are officially his africanamerican. Marc lamont hill and gregory cheadle, thank you. We are officially two weeks away from the first president ial debate and donald trump just said he thinks the event would be best if there were no moderator. My next two guests agree with him. Yep we are all in for our customers. Ally. Do it right. Lets go to Hillary Clintons running mate tim kaine, hes talking to reporters after speaking in dayton, ohio. Feeling good last monday. Some of you saw when we were here. But then she had a very busy week. She powered through that week. She was diagnosed on friday and then decided to do you know, to move forward with the National Security briefing. And then really wanted to be there as a senator from new york obviously yesterday morning. I ran my First City Council race in 1994 and had pneumonia when i was running. I made the same choice, to power through. I couldnt do it at 100 but i decided to do it not 0 . You wont be surprised to know she has a super strong work ethic. Thats going on. She said shell released more Health Information. Hillary has already released significant more Health Information than donald trump has. I hope there will be an even standard applied to getting them both to release sufficient information. Not just on health but obviously we have the ongoing issue on taxes, too. Second, i understand that donald trump has been going after hillary today for her comments over the weekend where she basically called out the views that are animating some of his campaign, views that are treating people assist secondclass citizens because of their religion or because of their National Origin or saying offensive things about women. Hillary spoke in a blunt way and called those views out. The views need to be called out. They cant just be tolerated. They need to be called out. She said, maybe i got the percentage wrong about who is animated by these views, but it is very clear to all of us that the Trump Campaign has given a platform. You can call them whatever you want, the altright movement or others, but when david duke is doing robocalls saying vote for trump, and those at the fringe of the conspiracy movement, like alex jones being. Narrator ed into the campaign or even the recent choices of campaign management, this is something that is really important. And i think we do need to call it out. Because in a country that we believe should be characterized by respect, there are some views that cant just be silent in the face of them. Silence in the face of views like this has caused huge problems in the past. Hillary also said what ive often said, which is there is a motivation for trump views, economic, where people feel the community or industry they trained for, they dont see a future. We have a duty to listen and speak to those views. Obviously in the campaign but if we win, we have to offer solutions to people. Hillary made that plain in her statement as well, that that wasnt commented on as much but i thought it was a very sensitive discussion. Because she was talking to friends and telling friends, look, we have to take seriously some of these anxieties even if theyre the anxieties of people who arent voting for us. Thats important. And thats the kind of president she would be. With that, ill open it up and take some questions. [ inaudible ] it starts soon. Look, i think it will be soon but i dont have the date right now to offer. Im sure the campaign will offer that information. And im sure, look, shes going to try to balance this issue of ive got to be out there making my case. Ive got a work ethic and the campaign, but also my doctor is telling me what to do to make sure im in good shape. I know shes getting ready for the debate on the 26th. Theres a lot shes juggling. Im sure shell balance those right and the campaign will put that information out soon, yes. [ inaudible ] uhhuh. [ inaudible ] its a little bit troubling, but, see, we have the experience, though, too, of spending a lot of time just talking to citizens. Im going to be doing a roundtable discussion in cincinnati later with a group of pastors. I can assure you theyll ask me hard questions. What do we do about criminal Justice Reform . What do we do to actually create that economy that works for everybody . As im talking to citizens in virginia and elsewhere, these issues that i would call kind of side issues, they dont get theyre not what people are asking me about. They are asking me tough, hard challenging questions but necessity tend to be more, you know, how do we create an economy that works for everybody . How can we be safe in a world thats challenging . And how do we create a community where everybodys respected . [ inaudible ] i dont think the the latter i definitely dont think so. I think, look, the Campaign Said in retrospect, maybe it would have been better to just say after the friday, just say, okay, heres the situation. But, you know, i lived through something very similar in my race. I kind of know what the thinking was which is, okay, ive got a diagnosis. Its serious but its something a lot of people manage. And so and, again, this is no surprise to any of you. Hillary has a very strong work ethic. Her sense was, if i was bit sick earlier in the week. But i did the forum and these other things. Ive got it but im going to power through. That was her way some of you were with me labor day. You saw when she was on stage and had that quocoughing fit, s was like, no, im doing this. Dont somebody else take the mike. No, im doing this. Then she did an event later in the day and flew to illinois or what washgs quad cities and did an event there. Thats kind of what she was up to. Im sure on friday she said, okay, i think i can manage this. And i think the Campaign Said in retrospect, we might do that one differently. But i think they made it plain pretty quickly yesterday in a timely way, in a way that i think was appropriate. [ inaudible ] yeah, i dont want to talk about her and my conversations, the content of them just to say that i reached out to her as soon as the incident happened on sunday, as soon as i was aware of it. I was sadly in my briefing memos and didnt know about it right away. I reached out to her as quickly as i heard and she was extremely responsive right away and going back and forth and even kidding me a little bit because ive had a day that may not be so pleasant but youre having an unpleasant one, too. She was giving me trouble in that way. I can just say, im not going to get into the content, but we talked yesterday after the incident happened. [ inaudible ] yeah, it is yeah, it is a warm and friendly and communicative relationship. And i think any time i need to talk to her, i do. And we talk immediately. And sometimes its oneonone and sometimes its part of a larger group. But we have a very good communication. And i just feel an unusual degree of synergy between the two of us. Even, you know, weve done a couple interviews where its been kind of eerie where ill start a thought and shell complete where i was going or vice versa. We have very good communication and we have some similarities in our backgrounds. You know, midwestern, kind of church background, Small Business background. She grew up in a republican house, so did i. I kind of know where she comes from and she gets where i come from. [ inaudible ] we dont talk every day but in terms of communicating directly or in a larger group where were xhcommunicating, its you know, within a twoday period were doing something together, talking to each other, yeah. [ inaudible ] yep. [ inaudible ] well, again, i think the important thing is, if you let, you know, deplorable statements go unchallenged, thats actually divisive. I would call on i would call on others to condemn deplorable statements. There are too many people who are supporting donald trump, and im talking about elected officials, who dont go on record and condemn deplorable statement. This guy wants to be commander in chief of the military but says the military is a disaster. I think thats worthy of public condemnation. Or this is someone who goes after a judge whos mexicanamerican and says the very fact of his heritage makes him unqualified to render a ruling in a case. Thats a comment worthy of condemnation. I think when were at our best, we condemn comments and attitudes and ideas more than we condemn people, and that can sometimes you know, you can sometimes just in the heat of the moment adjust that a little bit one way or the other, but if you dont condemn deplorable statements, if you dont condemn divisive statements, then you allow our politics to become divided. And, you know, theres one thing that unifies hillary and me. In our whole Public Service careers. Were trying to pull people together and not allow people to be divided, especially oldstyle, were blaming you, youre second class. That oldstyle division, which has been a feature of american politics and a feature of virginia politics so, tim kaine obviously standing up for the woman at the top of the ticket, standing up for Hillary Clinton, being asked by reporters in dayton, ohio, about her basket of despicables comment she made on friday, and also talking about the relationship together, their shared years and passion for service and also her pneumonia. He mentioned the debated prep. So, we know so far shes taking at least two days off the trail just to recoup. Perhaps shes thinking of the debate that is two weeks from today, the very first president ial debate. And theres been an idea thats floated around, including my next two guests, what about the notion of no moderator . Lets discuss that next. The wolf was huffing and puffing. Like you do sometimes, grandpa . Well, when you have copd, it can be hard to breathe. It can be hard to get air out, which can make it hard to get air in. So i talked to my doctor. She said. Two weeks from tonight, donald trump and Hillary Clinton will face off in the very first president ial debate. The four moderators chosen are bound to face as much scrutiny as the honominees themselves, likely over the criticism of nbcs matt lauer, what he endured hosting the commander in chief forum last week. So heres an idea, dont have a moderator . Donald trump is floating precisely that. I think maybe we should have no moderator. Let hillary and i sit there and just debate because i think the system is being rigged so its a very its going to be a very unfair debate. And i can see it happening right now because everyone was saying he was soft on trump. Now the new person is going to try to be really hard to trump just to show the establishment what he can do. Let me bring in two guests who agree with mr. Trump. Sam nelson standing by, senior lecturer at Cornel University and director of cornels debate program, and miss miller from bowling state university. Sam, let me have you lay it out for everyone. You say, dont have a moderator. Have a timekeeper. Explain that. Right. The main idea is the focus should be on the debaters, not and so by not requiring the moderator to do too much, you actually throw the ball in the court of the debaters. They become the fact checkers, they become the show, which is exactly what it should be. So melissa, how would they know to switch topics or what to talk about or to fact check one another . Yes, that would still be the role of this timekeeper, meaning the topics could still be decided in advance, the candidates could be aware of the topics in advance, and, in fact, we suggest that the topics actually be picked by voters as much as the commission on president ial debates gives the ga Gallup Organization, we are recommending the Gallup Organization query voters on their most important topics. One thing is it would be voter driven rather than moderator driven, and the timekeeper would be there to cue them when to switch topics and just let the candidates discuss it amongst each other. I have people with very different perspectives and often i feel like i need a whistle. Imagine these two on stage talking over each other. I was going to say its a natural question. Go ahead, there is a bit of a delay. You all are being so polite. Go ahead, sam. Heres what i think. I think that its good that people that are running for office show all their blemishes. So if theyre rude, if they go over time, thats important to know. When you have guests on cable television, theyre not usually running for an office. But i think to protect the voters from seeing the unblemished candidate is really something the media shouldnt do. We need to know if theyre rude, we need to know if they cant follow rules, we need to know if they say inappropriate things to each other. The best way to do that is to not have a moderator step in between them in a live debate. All right. Well be watching lester holt. Hes got a big job in two weeks. I appreciate you both, sam wilson and melissa miller, with an idea that donald trump may consider. After criticizing donald trump for praising vladimir putin, she tells cnn shes now willing to work with the president of russia. I think that if there are ways to do business with russia, we should always do business. What i most worry about with trump is that he is conveying several impressions to people around the world that are quite damaging. With respect to russian putin, this romance with putin, hes praised Saddam Hussein as well, says to america that he doesnt stand for human rights, for american rights, for human dignity. Were willing to work with many leaders, ive had many conversations with putin, but were not willing to roll over and adopt his wish list, which is exactly what donald trump has done. Lets go national chief correspondent there in moscow. From everything im reading, you know that the tension between secretary clinton and president putin, it goes deep. Can you tell me just how deep it is and what a relationship between the two, if she were to win, would look like . Well, theres certainly no love lost between putin and Hillary Clinton, and theres speculation around what the cause of that is. But i think it dates back to 2011 when president putin was reelected into that office here in the kremlin. And there were protests afterwards. And Hillary Clinton basically said the result of the election was dishonest and unfair. And that was interpreted by putin as being a signal by the state department, by Hillary Clinton it was at the state department back then, of course to spark a kind of regime change movement in russia. And the speculation is that he very much held that against her and has done ever since then. But theres been all sorts of other areas of policy with clinton at the helm that has really grated with the russians, particularly the foreign policy, the situation in libya, the overthrow of president gadhafi there, an ally of russia, and something the russians felt very betrayed about. They said they thought they were supportive when they supported this in libya, it was going to keep civilians from being killed, and it turned into the overthrowing of a sort of russian regime of gadhafi. Thats the other thing the kremlin has never really forgiven Hillary Clinton for. I suppose there would have to be a love lost between the two if she were to win. Thank you in moscow.
