Will end up in that place here, over my shoulder, the white house. Both president ial campaigns are making a last ditch effort to fire up voters and get them to the polls. Donald trump starting in tampa, rallying supporters and pledging he would take the state and win the white house on election day. Florida, one of four stops he is making as they crisscross across the country. Hillary clintons team are in battleground states, including a rally with katy perry, as the electoral map shows clinton below the magic number of 270 votes needed to win the presidency. Our team of political reporters and commentators are fanned out across the country covering every aspect of the campaign and well hear from there throughout the hour. Donald trump is now on his way to North Carolina where he is scheduled to speak soon. Sunlen is in wilmington, North Carolina where trump will be holding the rally. Sunlen, looks like a huge crowd there awaiting that trump plane. Polls show a very close race in that state. Is the Trump Campaign confident they might be able to pull that off there . Reporter well, fred, i talked to trumps communication director in North Carolina. As of this morning, they are feeling cautiously optimistic about their chances in this state. He pointed to early vote numbers that leads them to believe they are on the right track. But, certainly events like this, the last day of early, inperson voting here in North Carolina are so essential for the Trump Campaign, making sure all these people at the Campaign Event, these supporters go and cast their ballots for donald trump. They hope, certainly, this final last weekend of campaigning, so essential. We are seeing donald trump having a flurry of campaign active any North Carolina and earlier today in florida. After this, on board to nevada and colorado. Earlier today, at his Campaign Event in tampa, he took issue with Hillary Clintons star studded event with jayz and beyonce. Taking issue with the language in the lyrics. Here is what he had to say. He used every word in the book last night. By the way, in hershey, pennsylvania, last night, we had an arena. We had 27,000 people show up. Far more than jayz had, with their free tickets. Free tickets. Far more. And beyonce. I like them both, but he used language last night that was so bad. Then hillary said, i did not like Donald Trumps lewd language. My lewd language. I tell you what, ive never said what he said in my life. Reporter if you excuse me, i was being quiet because they are going the pledge of allegiance right now. When donald trump arrives, the plane will land and hell rally supporters on the tarmac. In a sign, fred, just how important North Carolina is for the Trump Campaign, they are not going to leave the state unattended. Tomorrow, mike pence will be here. Donald trump will return on monday and hold a rally in raleigh, North Carolina. Their schedule the last few hours, few days, reflecting it. Fred . Thank you so much. Sunlen there in North Carolina. Well check back with you. As donald trump leaves florida, Hillary Clinton is flying into florida. We are waiting for her to take to the stage at a rally in north miami. Well bring it to you live. Let me show you exactly where she will end up there. Take a look at this electoral map. Its based on the most recent polling. Clinton is just below the 270 votes needed to win. This means she needs to win one of these yellow states to pass the threshold. You see where florida is. Cnns senior washington correspondent, jeff, is at clintons upcoming rally there in the miami area. Jeff, earlier we saw Hillary Clinton taking pictures with people at an early voting site. She has had these starstudded events, a concert last night in cleveland, beyonce performing, jayz. Events like that, is there a way of telling from the electorate there, voters whether that makes a difference . Reporter well, fredricka, its certainly a way to turn out the vote. Thats what she was doing. Now we are in pembroke pines, florida, north of miami. It is starting to rain here a little bit. It happens in florida a lot. Early voting is the key. The pictures you saw there, people in florida have until 7 00 p. M. To cast their ballots. Hillary clinton stood with beyonce and jayz and did a quote from him from 2008 about why elections matter. Lets listen. And remember, jay memorable said something we should all recall. Rosa parks sat so Martin Luther walked and Martin Luther walked so barack obama could run and barack obama ran so all the children could fly. You saw that in cleveland last night, fredricka. It is raining here. We are getting wet here. The point of this early voting weekend is really to get people to the polls. 5. 3 Million People have already voted in florida. That is 60 of the electorate. She is campaigning aggressively here today and going to philadelphia tonight where shell have more star power. Katy perry, donald trump is questioning the celebrities. There is no doubt it is getting people out and more enthused than they otherwise would be. Well see if it matters in the end. In large part, trying to appeal to that electorate, the millennials who expressed they are feeling apathetic. Thank you so much, jeff. Well check in with you in a rainy south florida. This, just into cnn, the Supreme Court in the law halting third party ballot collection. They argued the law could disenfranchise voters. Were going to talk about it with the panel. Rebecca, tim and mave. Good to see all of you. Rebecca, let me have you tackle that first. What does it mean for the race in arizona . The early vote is critical. Democrats tend to do better and republicans tend to do better on election day. Thats kind of the dynamic we are seeing so far, playing out as well. This is a remarkable race for so many reasons, is it not . I mean, my goodness. What is happening here where there are all these developments leading up to election day, three days away. What are voters to make of all the chess pieces being moved . First of all, its not unusual to be searches near the end of the campaign. There are six or seven modern elections where there was a surge at the end. But, only in the cases of bill clinton and Ronald Reagan did it make a difference. Usually made the election closer, but the person leading before the surge was leading after the surge. So, historically speaking, if this follows any rules at all, chances are, the person who had the lead two weeks ago will win. But, everything has been so different this time around. I would point out how interesting the voting challenges have been. In ohio, for example, a judge just decided largely on the basis of a democratic petition that the steal the vote people might be intimidating voters and they have been told to stay away from polling places. Theres concern about voter intimidation this time around because of the importance of turnout. Since we dont have the charismatic barack obama running again, and certain groups in American Society that came out in a big way for him, millennials and africanamericans. Turnout is so important to both camps. These voter intimidation rulings are extraordinarily important and will shape election day. What we saw in arizona is interesting. The news that just came in is a blow to democrats. If the Supreme Court in arizona had physically reversed federal Appeals Court decision. It revolves around ballot collection. They argued in arizona there are some communities along the border and native american rezizations. Action v activists went to get it. This law was put in place to stop that. This is one of these last minute maneuverings we are seeing around the country. You have a different ruling in North Carolina, for example, yesterday, that was a boon for democrats. You are seeing all around the country, these different efforts that are being made to either suppress or increase the turnout. Another challenge in large part for some republicans, particularly Republican Leadership, paul ryan not for donald trump, then for donald trump, then changing his tune more. Today, out campaigning, rallying. You know, tim, this puts not only the gop as a whole in a tough situation, but him in particular. Then you have chance of whether his tenure as House Speaker is in the rearview mirror. How does paul ryan play a role in influencing this election . Well, paul ryan is trying to play a role in saving the Republican Party. I think what i cant access his inner thoughts, but watching how hes maneuvered, one gets the sense that at a certain point he focused on down ballot issues, wanted to make sure he didnt lose his speakership. His tiptoeing around trump has a lot to do with the pressure some put on him saying you are the highest ranking elected republican official. You cant just walk away from the nominee of the party. So, hes been following this narrow line. What is key here, i believe, is the extent to which he will confirm the outcome of the election on tuesday. Does he if its really close and if mr. Trump loses, does paul ryan come out and say its over or does he participate in the vote rigging issue . Similarly, if trump wins, what kind of Republican Party does paul ryan want . Does he really want a trump Republican Party . So, paul ryan is somebody to watch on tuesday. Rebecca, this is a tight rope, for paul ryan, the gop and the reasons tim laid out. They might not have much of a choice whether they have a trump Republican Party or not after this election. While the Republican Party is going to try to steer itself on a certain path, they still have to respect the base of their party. Its not clear their party is going to immediately move on from donald trump, that they are going to immediately renounce trumpism. This is kind of here to stay and the Republican Party is going to need to grapple with that after this election. Is that the challenge, what is the base of the Republican Party anymore . To rebeccas point, we have to watch and see what happens on tuesday night. How close the margin is, how well donald trump does. He, of course, could win or lose by a very small margin. If that were to happen, there will be a reckoning in the Republican Party where they have to figure out how to fold in all of these varying interests. Thats going to be the most fascinating story. Perhaps its cart before the horse, we havent gotten there yet. It is an incredible fascination. What happens within the gop whether its a trump win or not. What happened to the identity crisis the gop is in the midst of. Lets not forget theres a perot voter that joined another collaboration. They didnt form a party. A few of them voted for him, hey, next time around. Its possible some of the angry voters are going to melt away. They will still be americans but may not be a cohesive force. I think it depends on how close this election is. I think it depends on whether the republicans hold the senate or not. The worst trump and the republicans do, the greater the reckoning will be. If it is a trump win, we dont hear donald trump talking too much about the party, the gop. Hes talking about you the voter, hes talking about him as a leader. So, if he were to win, where is that cohesion or from what point is the starting point . Thats such an interesting point, fred, because you would think that donald trump would be extenting an olive branch to the Republican Party, trying to map out how he would govern with Republican Leaders and congress. Hes doing, in some cases, the opposite of that, attacking Republican Leaders, attacking republican candidates who dont support him, not building the relationships you need to govern. Hillary clinton, on the other hand, has begun reaching out to some republicans in congress, on the hill, talking about how they could possibly work together. And so you see that perfectly illustrates the difference between Hillary Clinton and donald trump in terms of how they operate here in washington. Donald trump would not, i think, operate in the way we have come to expect and would not necessarily work with republicans in the way we have come to expect. Its such an interesting contrast between clinton getting out there for the down ballot candidates. A huge focus on the final part of the campaign. When donald trump gets out there and makes a plug for fellow republicans, its big news. Its a rarity. If donald trump were to be elected, theres so much healing that needs to go on in the Republican Party and the extent to which he does extend the olive branches is fascinating to watch. Hes talked about the idea of a strong executive, which runs so counter to the way most republicans envision the government working. They see the state should have a lot of power. Republicans in congress have been deeply disturbed during the Obama Administration with the executive orders, the way he used the executive powers he has and its so interesting. Except he says theres a tool he cant wait to use. They tweeted the other day, what good is having a series of conservative members of the court if the person who put them there isnt an thortarian challenging the republic. Well hold it there. Thank you so much. We have so much more to talk about and we have the time. Well do it. Well be back with much more. Its about moving forward not back. Its looking up not down. One state that turned into a battleground is New Hampshire. The most recent cnn poll of polls has Hillary Clinton and donald trump nearly in a dead heat among likely voters. The democratic candidate is edging out by just two points. Two weeks ago, Hillary Clinton had an eightpoint lead. Joining me from manchester, New Hampshire, is cnn correspondent chris frates. Is there a good explanation for this turn around . Reporter the get out the vote campaign. This will be the biggest mobilization of the election season. It makes sense, we are days from november 8th. Volunteers fanning out across the state. They have made more than 2 million phone calls. They got out and knocked on 600,000 doors. Top surrogates are out here as well. Elizabeth warren is out here getting people fired up, getting progressives fired up in New Hampshire to get to the polls. Madeleine albright is out here. On the gop side, donald trump has big names out here and he is trying to mobilize the voters, 1. 4 million door knocks, 1. 3 million phone calls. Hes reaching out to voters as well, along with crucial independents. We saw Jeff Sessions, a big trump adviser getting out the vote activity this saturday afternoon. That is something that well continue through the weekend. Mike pence on sunday coming to New Hampshire, fred. Chris, you know, Chris Christie was supposed to campaign for donald trump. In an investigation that doesnt look good for many people in his administration, what do you know about his whereabouts or how its impacting the Trump Campaign . Yeah, fred, well, Jeff Sessions was supposed to be campaigning with new jersey governor, Chris Christie and christie canceled after two top allies were found guilty in the bridgegate scandal. They have been found guilty of orchestrating lane closures. They caused huge traffic jams in new jersey and they were doing that to get back at a democratic mayor who did not endorse Chris Christie. The allies said on the stand, in testimony, that chrischristie knew about the lane closures as they happened. Christie maintained he did not know until the news broke. I asked Jeff Sessions, senator, should Chris Christie be in charge of trumps Transition Team . He is running on draining the swamp in washington. Should he head to transition when its shown he has corruption in his own administration. Here is what sessions told me. With donald trump saying we need to drain the swamp of washington, is it appropriate to have Chris Christie heading the transition effort if donald trump were to win . I dont know anything about that, what his plans were today. Certainly, hes not been charged with anything. But, this campaign is focused on commitment to a higher ethical standard. So, he should stay then . You are fine with it . Yes or no, should he stay as transition chair . I dont know a reason why he shouldnt. So, Jeff Sessions there saying i dont see a reason why Chris Christie shouldnt stay. Well see if the news about the top allies being convicted in the bridge scandal changes things. Hes not out here on the ground today. Chris christie is popular in New Hampshire. He knows how to do town halls. He campaigned against donald trump in New Hampshire. He is not on the stump today. Well see if he makes it out later in the next couple days, fred. Thank you very much in manchester, New Hampshire. Well have much more in the news room from the Nations Capital after this. Two leading candidates wanting to end up there at the white house. The latest in the cnn poll of polls, lets take a look. Hillary clinton holds a fivepoint edge over donald trump. In the next hour, the candidates will hold dualing Campaign Events in key battleground states. Trump will hold a rally in wilmington, North Carolina. Hillary clinton in pembroke pines, florida, south florida, and well bring both events as they happen. Voter turnout could be critical, it will be. It was a huge part of president obamas victories. Republicans who have a smaller ground operation in 2012 are now stepping up their efforts to drive voters to the polls. Dana bash has more. Reporte im going mark you down for 12 00 saturday for phone banking. Reporter on the stump. Get out and vote. Reporter its about getting out the vote. For republicans, that means learning from their mistakes. After the lagging 2012 operation failed, the Republican National committee began working three years ago to step up their game. How is what you are doing in 2016 different from 2012 . We are 100 miles away from where we were in 2012. Reporter the biggest difference, they use this phone app to get out the vote. It will show you their party affiliation, how reliable they are as a voter, their age, stuff like that. Click that voter. Do take survey. Boom right there. It gives them scripting. Information sent instantly to rnc headquarters. Need to talk to them so they know when the election is and who they are going to support. Reporter in the final push, thousands of staffers and volunteers are using the app in battleground states across the country. The rnc leading trumps ground operation say they will complete 17 million door knocks by election day, up from 11. 5 million in 2012. Its all very ambitious but been done before by the democrats. Im doing great, what is your name . Reporter they are trying to em late the obama ground machine that crushed the gop two cycles. Armies of democratic activists are spread out over the same key states as republicans. Clinton aides signed up 1 million volunteer shifts for the last 96 hours alone. In some ways, team clinton is old school, using paper and clip boards and tallied at the end of each day. Still, it is very hightech, using social and digital med ya to build on the obama operation. Its now going to walk me through making my entire voting plan. Reporter a personalized plan of where to vote, when to vote and how to get there. Forcing people to get specific. Im taking public transit, im voting in the morning. I can go straight to my phone to my pocket to vote. Reporter volunteers are done trying to persuade voters to support clinton. No soft trump voters . We are focused on the turnout. Its about making sure the voters cast their ballots. Dana bash, cnn, washington. Lets bring in the panel to discuss this. Cnn political analyst, rebecca bird, tim and cnn media correspondent, brian. Good to see all of you. Rebecca, lets start with you. Door knocking for trump, star studded events for Hillary Clinton. How will we know which is the more effective strategy . We know that Hillary Clinton and democrats just more broadly devoted a lot more energy and focus to the ground game overall. Donald trump left that entirely to the Republican National committee. He decided his campaign was going to focus on other things that he thought, during the primary, he didnt need a ground game. It was a climb for him to admit, now that its the general election, they are going to need to handle this for me. Democrats have been focused on this from the beginning. Robby, Hillary Clintons Campaign Manager prides himself as an organizer on the ground. He was her nevada seat director. Thats going to be a key state. We have a good sense democrats are going to be come ppetitive n it comes to getting the voter out. Its a tougher climb. Republicans rely on older voters, higher propensity voters. Democrats rely on africanamericans who are tough to turn out at the polls. We are already seeing early voting that a challenge for Hillary Clinton is getting africanamericans to turn out to the levels like they did for barack obama. More of the same, perhaps, just in higher gear for clinton in terms of the strategy and we are seeing in this last week, a complete Strategy Change for donald trump. I mean a different demeanor. A different approach in how to talk to people, talking to himself out loud. I mean, is that with some hope that voters will forget everything that preceded the last days . You know, we have been talking about this as a nation for months. You would think that people would remember whatever it is that bothered them about Hillary Clinton or donald trump, they would remember it now. Here is the interesting thing about trump. Trump seemed to act on the assumption that any, any publicity was good publicity. He now is running his campaign by disappearing. Hes going, of course hes trying to get the base to vote, doing what candidates do. Hes not tweeting anything terribly interesting. Hes not calling in to Television Shows to say anything unusual. Somebody has gotten to him. Listen, again, we have seen this man in three different debates. It would be silly to say hes had a complete personality change. Somebody has convinced him that he should just disappear on the National Stage and focus on the fact that our National Election is actually 50 state elections and he should be going to the states where he has a chance to win the state election. Thats a complete shift in his strategy. We are going to take a short break from here. As a continuation of the Strategy Change, brian, you are going to reveal to us as soon as we come back, Something Different than we have seen on the campaign trail. Thats coming up. Lets talk more about the landscape just three days away from election day. Lets bring back the panel here. Rebecca berg, tim and cnn senior media correspondent, host of reliability sources, brian. This just in, information from a mike pence aide that pence is scheduled to go to minnesota now on monday for a campaign stop. That, according to the map is expanding. Rebecca, what do you make of this constant change in strategy we are seeing unfold as it pertains to Donald Trumps ticket . We have seen this movie before with mitt romney. He, too, was traveling to states like minnesota that werent necessarily leaning in his favor, they were leaning in Barack Obamas favor at that time. He looked at the map and the team recognized they needed to expand the map or there wasnt a viable way to reach 270 electoral votes. Thats what we are seeing. Is it too little too late or is this addressing the matter at hand with three days away . Theres no reason. Theres nothing in the polls about minnesota that would give you the impression its going to become a battleground state. I think rebecca is right. This is a hail mary. Look at the number of roads to 270 for trump. There arent many of them. Hes going to need some of the upper midwest. You have another point, rebecca, on that . I would argue michigan and pennsylvania are more likely targets for trump than minnesota when looking, realistically at the polling. The fact of the matter is, even if donald trump runs the table on the real toss up states, North Carolina, florida, ohio and nevada, he still would need to win one of these really difficult states, pennsylvania, michigan, minnesota. Its just very much an outside chance. They need to find somewhere. They need to put more points on the board. It may be rhetorical. The message to supporters is we are in it to win it. Get to the polls. Interesting, there are not sending people to help the down ballot people. I mean there isnt what does that mean . Theres no senate race. Is that a mistake in your view if you have a donald trump who wins . He has to mend fences. He has splintered lots of things with the gop. If you are going to be in the white house, you have to be able to coordinate and collaborate with those on the hill. I say their campaign would say to us, we have to win the election, first. I would ask everybody, what is the opposite of coat tails . The thing about it is there arent going to be very few elected republicans who will say thank you donald trump for helping us hold on to the senate. Many of them, right now, are campaigning as independent voices in case he is elected president. You have mike pence in minnesota tomorrow. There have been a few other surprises along the way in how donald trump is dotting the map today, then today at the 1 00 rally in wilmington, North Carolina, you are not going to just see donald trump but who else . Melania trump. Announcing a few minutes ago, his wife will be with him, introducing him at the next campaign stop. This shouldnt be news and normally wouldnt be. Because its so rare to see her, it will be noteworthy. She gave a speech at the convention, didnt speak for months, then one in pennsylvania. Shell be introducing her husband. Visually, it could be interesting. Its a few hours after the Associated Press said she received payment for work in the u. S. Before she was legally able to. Underlining a message she made in terms of working here legally, getting immigration status taken care of legally. Thats right. Trump critics are saying this is hypercritical. This is 20,000, two decades ago. Donald trump said she would hold a press conference. It never happened. When donald trump said three appearances before election day, is this considered the second . This is the second. I think people interpreted it as she is going to speak more fluently. We dont know whats going to happen. However, in utah, the difference is Evan Mcmullin. Traditionally, hes been a republican, voted republican his entire life and hes mormon. Here in utah, 85 of the Republican Voters are mormon, that is a big deal. We went out to talk to people to see what they were saying. It was interesting the conversations we were hearing. One woman said we are basically a twoparty system. Im casting my vote for donald trump because he has the likelihood of winning and i cant stomach a Hillary Clinton presidency. I spoke to one man, a mormon. Everyone i spoke to is part of the church, saying he was voting for Hillary Clinton, hes a democrat and so is his wife. Hes excited to vote for her because for once his vote in utah is going to make a difference. He could see, this time around, a vote for a democratic candidate may mean something. To put it into perspective, a new poll came out from here in utah from analytics which is based here. They came out with a poll saying donald trump is standing at 33 and Evan Mcmullin 28 and Hillary Clinton at 24 . That is interesting because if they are able to take away these six electoral votes from the republican candidate, that is what mcmullin wants to do. If that happens, it could usher in a Hillary Clinton win. People are concerned about that. People are trying to vote their conscience here. Stephanie, thanks so much in salt lake city.
