Cnn newsroom starts now. The stakes are high as President Trump prepares for his first appearance at the United Nations General Assembly going into the much anticipated gathering. They are ratcheting up the pressure and rhetoric on north korea. I think we all know that if north korea keeps on with this reckless behavior, if the United States has to defend itself or allies in any way, north korea will be destroyed and we know that and none of us want that. None of us want war. We have to look at the fact that you are dealing with someone being recreckless, irresponsibl and continuing to give threats not only to the United States, but all of their allies. Something is going to have to be done. The president alluded to recent sanctions placed on the rogue nation and taking a swipe on the dictator in this tweet saying i spoke with president moon last night and asked him how rocket man is doing. Long gas lines forming in north korea. Too bad. Athena jones is there and the president has been critical of the un in the past. What can we expect when he speaks to the General Assembly next week. The president has been quite a skeptic of the United Nations and had Harsh Criticism on the campaign trail and it was utterly weak and incompetent and it was no friend of democracy and no friend of freedom and even to the United States. I think we can probably expect him to sing at least a somewhat different tune at the un General Assembly this week. This is the president s first turn on the most high profile stage in the world. 193 member nations who are taking part in this General Assembly. The National Security adviser gave us a preview of what to expect in his address on tuesday before the General Assembly. He was speaking on foxuraler today. He thinks the speech is an opportunity to reach so many World Leaders and emphasize three themes. First to protect the American People. The second is to promote american prosperity and the third is to help promote accountability and sovereignty. So you heard general mcmaster call this speech on tuesday a tremendous opportunity for the president. Its also a chance for World Leaders to hear from President Trump on how he plans to promote his America First agenda before this meeting of a Global Organization that is aimed at solving global challenges together. We should mention that of course the president is going to have a series of meetings and events. He is hosting lunches and receptions and has a working dinner and there is a long list of global challenges that will be on his agenda. I think there is a discorded message. Margaret, how do you see the message of the president being received by the World Leaders . I think we will see what he does mean when he talks about sovereignty. Part of it may be a messaging to the base and the president trying to actually do what we are all talking about here to use the un and format that it is supposed to be used. We will see what he means about sovereignty when he hear about the meetings with the ukrainian leader. Notably russias leader. Mr. Putin will not participate in the talks. Perhaps with afghanistan. It is important now that he is championing the reform to slightly modify the way he talked about the un to potentially embrace or get behind what the un can do in whatever terms he wants to catch that in. The message from the president will be important no matter what is said. At the same time they are sideline meetings that will be taking place. Will they be 1 community or is there likelihood that the messaging will be different . I hope they are different. One of the most important meetings is with south korea and japan. There is a military option and yes, President Trump is correct. This is a problem that has been left to him. It has been neglected for too long, but any risks tens of thousands of life in south korea and japan. That is critical and its important that president xi in china which is a key player wont be in new york. I hope the messaging is private. The president had his comments about the United Nations in the past and heres one example. The utter weakness and incompetence of the United Nations. The United Nations is not a friend of democracy. Its not a friend to freedom. Its not a friend even to the United States of america where as you know, it has its home. It surely is not a friend to israel. So is this the moment that many nations will say was that Campaign Trump or really mr. Trump . I think that they understand in the United States there has been historically some opposition on the right to the sort of globalist un message. On the other hand we need the un for the purposes of its Security Council resolutions or sanctions so that other countries like they were in the iran case feel compelled legally under the obligations to impose sanctions. We like to bash the un when it makes mistakes on the human rights downs il and they occasionally overreach and try to fault the United States which is ridiculous, but on the other hand we need them occasionally for Peace Keeping and really need them for sanctions enfor enforcement on north korea which is the biggest issue. The four american tourists were attacked by a woman that we are now being told was deranged. This is not being investigated as a terror attack we learned within the last hour or so and they are not terrorrelated. A 41yearold woman we are told has been taken into custody who we are told was mentally deranged rather than acting in the name of any particular cause who threw acid in the faces of women who were hospitalized and possibly having injuries to her eyes. A particularly horrible attack, but not terrorrelated. Whether or not these were specifically target said because they were american or why this deranged woman found herself this this state carrying acid. A lot of questions about this attack for the time being. There is four women we know were hospitalized and two were shot. Not a great deal else. The 41yearold woman who attacked them today. They want to know why she acted as she did. London police made a second arrest in connection with fridays train bombing. A 21yearold man. Police searched a house in a suburb west of london and a man remains in custody. The Terror Threat level has been downgraded from critical to see veer. That means an attack is highly likely. 30 people were injured when President Trump continues to tweet about the attack in london. This morning he said loser terrorists must be dealt with in a much tougher manner. The internet is their main recruitment tool which we must cause off and use better. The president is that if Scotland Yard shares something with or the British Intelligence shares information with the u. S. Intelligence or Law Enforcement and the president will get briefed, the last thing any country wants is the president prematurely sharing information with the public ha is supposed to remain with the two agencies. This is a matter that has sort of come up before and may continue again. Im not sure what the answer is. So david, if trumps message this week with the un can mend relations with may or leaders who have reluctance. It cant be helpful he continues to tweet about that matter in his ideas about how to control terrorism or recruitment. Its the sense that i think he is using the a actions to score political points and the band he is trying to enact and personally think thats the wrong approach that plays into isiss hands and we will discriminate against muslim this is a car with iran. He wants to tweet about whatever he says and he said the internet should be controlled and we should limit speech. They are talking about military options and have i think a clearer strategy in north korea. This administration is an independent platitude calling people losers. That is not going to stop terror attacks. The president is correct. There is a lot of online recruitment of islamic extremists across the country and the world. Look, this is going to be an ongoing contest and i think the American People and people around the world need to be prepared that this is not going away any time soon. You have to remember that the unga for so many years operated at the same time as the clinton global initiatives so the clintons have been part of the un and given years where they were off to the side and many of the leaders or spouses of the leaders who participated in the un General Assembly would have a role. At a time when she is launching her own book or publicity tour and we can sort of get particular residents for clinton land. Look. The president s previous foreign trip so far has given key allies and many other leaders as well a sense of how he can use the summits both to shock or galvanize the moment or reset relations and forge personal relationships with people. This is on a much larger stage. The entire world. Many leaders and countries have not had that opportunity to engage. I think this week will give them a taste up close and personal of the possibilities whether the activity was a prelude to that or off to the side. The protest organizers told everyone to go home, but the group of 40 or 50 people decided to stay around and in about a split academy, they started tossing bottles of paint and gasoline and rocks towards the officers and someone started breaking windows and there was a stampede down the road and throwing them into the business windows. People were getting trampled in the street and they did not use tear gas considering how much abuse they took. In the area, del mar loop where this happened, there was something amazing happening right now. A lot of people are showing up with businesses to clean up. They are shocked by what they witnessed. People decide violence and lawlessness is what they want to do and thats the part that gets scary. Amazing that more people werent injured and several people got arrested and 12 made in total.
