The shooting of Rayshard Brooks calling for rethinking how police use deadly force. Now just three weeks after a Police Officer in minneapolis killed george floyd. An autopsy reveals brooks was shot twice in the back moments after an officers taser. Brooks cause of death is listed as a homicide. His wife is speaking out for the first time. I want them to go to jail. I want them to get the same thing as if it was my husband who killed someone else. If it was my husband who shot them, he would be in jail. He would be doing a life sentence. They need to be put a way. Now this all began calmly. One officer walking up to brooks car where he was sleeping at a wendys drive through. My man. Hey. Hey, man, youre parked in the middle of a dlief line here. Brooks eventually wakes up and moves his car, but when the second officer arrives things gettens. Garrett rolf eventually administers a breathalyzer. They say he has too much to drink. He tries to handcuff brooks, he resists and tries to run. Hey. [ bleep ]. [ bleep ]. But this all ends with officer rolf chasing brooks on foot. Brooks, then youll see it, appears to point the taser back at the officer who fires three times ultimately killing brooks. Lets go live to atlanta and bring in cnns Diane Gallagher. A lot of developments in this case over the weekend. The Police Officer who shot brooks is no longer on the job. The police chief resigning. What more can you tell us . Thats right. That officer who shot was fired. The other person was placed on desk duty. The chief of police, erica shields, stepped aside saying she wanted the city to be able to move forward and rebuild trust in the community. Now what happens next is looking towards whether or not there may be charges. The District Attorney in Fulton County is looking at that. He was waiting for the medical examiners report after the a autopsy that stated he was shot two times in the back. They did list his method of death as homicide, but i want you to listen to what else the District Attorney says may play into those charges. Sometime around wednesday we will be making the decision in this case. Were trying to determine is at that time whether or not the officers felt their lives were in danger, specifically officer rolf. If that shot was fired for some reason other than to save that officers life or to prevent injury to him or others, then that shooting is not justified under the law. Reporter now the District Attorney also said theyve struggled getting all of the dash cam video, all of the video that is associated with this. They also want to be able to interview two additional witnesses so they can get a better picture of this. We may know more about potential charges against those officers stymied week this week. The officer who patted him down knew he was not armed but he kept escalating the matter even after brooks offered to leave his car at the wendys and walk to his sisters house, facts not lost on the Brooks Family attorney. Because i was saying that if the other three officers that were present when george floyd was unfortunately murdered, if they just one of them had stepped in, they had him and you carried him to the police.
