If trump does not win, america will have its first female president. What may Hillary Clinton expect in that role. You will hear from the female Prime Minister. Finally a farewell to a great statesman, well bring you some gps moment with shermon peres. First, here is my take. Most people would agree that donald trump is a strange standard barrel for republicans. He disavows most of its issues. After five previous nominees for president , three would not publicly affirm that they would vote for him. I would beta fourth, john mccain would not when it gets to the polling. Yet, amazinglamazingly, trump h received about the same level of support of republicans as previous nominees. Whether republicans prove to be rational. I will explain. The last time so Many Republican leaders defected was in 1964 and Barry Goldwater was wiped out in a landslide. The difference today is the person does not matter, the party does. For months now, many intellect uals would reveal that trump is unqualified. Hillary clinton won by a huge margin but when asked whether the debate had improved the view of clinton, 4 said yes. These dynamics have reminded me of the righteous mind of heights. Facts and analysis simply to affirm or justify our decisions. If you think this is only to people and not you. Consider the billionaire who cofounded papal and funded facebook. Hes extremely intelligent. He strongly support trump for a tru truly bizarre reason. He says trump praising the scottish and Canadian Health care system. One is a nationalized system. He cited this is a remarkable willingness to think and challenge government. Another remark is a comment thrown off the top of his head cig nying nothing. Nbc news calculates that he had changed his position 124 times on 20 major issues since the campaign began. Most important after that reference, trump backed down on his support of Government Health care instead of reciting of the evils of obamacare. A libertarian has chosen to support a man whos Public Policy conditions on antifree trade hes convinced that trump is actually a closet admirer of british nationalized health care system. I cannot think of a better example of this that we come to a decision first and reason our way afterwards. Paul ryan has managed similar acrobatics. The wall and the deportations and ending both citizenship and renegotiating nafta and he publicly condemned many of them. Yet, he explains trump is his man. The trend to look for this election is whether trump is losing support among republicans. That would indicate that politics is turning into something thats more than about triable loyalty than a sports team. Democracy depends on the ability to look at evidence to use reasons and judgment and to take seriously our roles as citizens of a great republic, for more, go to cnn. Com fareed and read my post. Lets get started. President obama has been in office for 2805 days. The law allows the family members of 9 11 victims to sue saudi arabia. The white house called the over ride the single most embarrassing thing the senate has possibly done in more than 30 years. In return, congress wondered why the administration would stop vic victims from seeking justice. Let me bring in our former cia director, Michael Hayden to give us much needed context here. Jeff, let me ask you what does this law do and how unprecedented is it . Well, the law is designed specifically so that the 9 11 family members, victims of the terror attack can sue saudi arabia and at least initially begin a lawsuit alleging involvement by the government in the attacks. There are many string attached, however, which will limit the ability of these families ever to recover any money but it is a breach in the wall that traditionally forbidden individuals in one country from suing governments of other countries, the concept known as sovereign immunity, which is an Important International law. This is a breach in that tradition and thats why the obama add minuministration is s concerned about. General, what is your sense of the Foreign Policy impact of Something Like this. Well, one thing fareed, the saudi would respond or retali e retaliate, i dont think theyll do that. We have a relationship with them and i think that many of the steps that some people are suggesting that would be quite dramatic would be at least harmful to the kingdom as least to the United States. As jeffery pointed out, when you punch a hole in sovereign immunity, in fact, people in my old agency or the arm force who are about the world doing things broadly and appropriately, doing things that are controversial and things that other nations object to. Now, you put ourselves, the world on the path in which the traditional protection, sovereign immunity for those kinds of actions has become to be eroded. Jeff, how would a retaliation like that work, you could imagine some iraqis groups saying the United States has been funding and supporting what they regard as terrorists, some group they dont like, maybe the government or the cur millitia. Is that kind of thing possible . Thats the worry that the Obama Administration has put forward. There are many obstacles to any of these lawsuits around the world. Thats the worry. Someone in pakistan will say that the drone strikes are a violation of packistian law so we are going to sue. This has happened before. There were cia activity in italy which led to lawsuits against the United States. Those cases have largely petered out under the doctrine of solve r sovereign immunity. The reus that can we see is because we are so active in many countries, we do not want to see it erode. Mike, lets talk a minute about the issue of saudi, government issues. They funded ideology in some ways fuel the rise of groups like alqaida. Talk about the saudi government assisted, for example, on alqaeda. Fareed, there are true essential points here. Number one, i would agree that the kingdom made a bill with the devil back in 1979, they simply said there is no one to our roo religious rights within saudi culture, that led to dark places for broad, Saudi Foreign and domestic policies. In this domestic case, a lot of good people from multiple points of views have looked at data and concluded there is no case that the saudi government or senior officials were involved in any way of 9 11. Jeff. If i can add politically what i think is so interesting and significant about this is this bill, we live in a time of tremendous political polarization, republicans and democrats are united on this issue against the Obama Administration and i think it reveals a deep american distrust of saudi arabia and it is not just that 15 of the 19 hijackers were saudi nationals. It goes to saudi arabia treats women and what saudi arabia is doing to violate human rights in yemen, this is not an ally that Many Americans feel comfortable with. I think thats the real sub text to why the congress acted the way it did. Gentlemen, thank you very much. Very informative. Next on gps, many foreign leaders wondered how donald trump made it this far in the president ial race even many of them dont say it publicly. I want to talk to one political leader from abroad whos a trump support, well hear from the United Kingdom nigel farad when we come back. E night when you stay with us just two times. Volunteer by donating your lunch break at americaletsdolunch. Org. 100 days ago, britain voted to leave the union to the astonishment to many people. My guest is nigel farage. A pleasure to have you on the show not to my knowledigel. Thank you. Donald trump is quite unpopular in britain. The polls i have seen that most people really dont like him, what do you see in him that so many of your country men dont . Well, with that point to say that hillary is not popular in the uk either, we got this election which the british thinks goodness made, is this the best that america could do. Trump is being portrayed as almost racist, thats what people have not liked very much. I would say this to you that we are exactly 100 days off from the big brexit vote that happens here in the United Kingdom. The reason brexit happens was a large number of people who did not vote in the previous elections or in some cases never voted in their lives, went out and voted against the establishment. The appeal that trump has got in america is to say look, we had this strangle hold for the last couple of decades of big banks and businesses and politics who may have done well for themselves but they have not better your lives but that i think is the appeal of trump. So a prominent newspaper comes out against him, you think it almost feeds the energy that surrounds his campaign bus it is the kind of antileader populous appeal . It depends. Establishment figures lining up to tell us this would be the biggest mistake we would make in your liv our lives and the economy would fall off the cliff and people front range frankly looks at it and laugh. What i see is an establishment is too cozy and close. Do you think there are sort of trump the brexit, the polling suggested the remain side, on the eve of the counting, you seem to almost conceive because you are reading all the same polls that we were. Do you imagine the similar of trump pricsurprise . I think there are two phenomenons here, on telephone polls particularly, people are nervous to come across as being too conservative socially. We have seen even the last few years in britain polls getting it wrong because people are not quite telling the truth on the telephone. There is another phenomenon here and frankly, the Polling Industry in europe, frankly, it is almost bankrupt in terms of its reputation. What i am talking about is the Polling Company finds it really hard to find people who are outside of politics and coming into politics and thats why the opinion polls over brexit were wrong, although i do admit that i suffers myself. Um trump is different from the brexit phenomenon, it seems to me that a lot of people who argue for brexit and yourself included said that we are not right wing populous and we are profree trade and we like the diversity of livfe. We dont want brussel telling us what to do. Yet the appeal of trump seems to me to be about his views on immigration, hes very tough on crime and promises to appoint justice like scalia. How do you comfortable with someone who really by most of his policies is right wing populous that brexit told us they were not you are quite not. Bre fundamentally, it was about Self Government and democracy. This American Election is a much clearer right left choice than the referendum was or i would say he was this. Hillary clinton for me represents the kind of politics that led us over the last 20 year in an end less series of walls and frankly we made things worse and not better. Clinton politics is about big business and it is about rich is getting richer and i think that trump is part of a phenomenon that is now beginning to sweep the western world, simply people wont change and i think on november the 8th, thats what this comes down to. Do you want continuity with clinton or do you want change. You have 30 second to give donald trump advise, you are going to be his guest at the second president ial debate. How can he improve on his performance. Dont let her get under her skin, whatever abuse she throws at you, ignore her, dont defend yourself, there is no point. What you got to do donald is talking to people sitting at home in their living rooms. Dont get involved in a cat fight with Hillary Clinton. Nigel farage, it is a pleasure to have you on. Next on gps, this half of the globe has had its fair share of warfare but this half now has done. The story behind that amazing statistic when we come back. As a supervisor at pg e, its my job to protect public safety, keeping the power lines clear, while also protecting the environment. The Natural World is a beautiful thing, the work that we do helps us protect it. Public education is definitely a big part of our job, to teach our customers about the best type of trees to plant around the power lines. We want to keep the power on for our customers. We want to keep our community safe. This is our community, this is where we live. We need to make sure that we have a beautiful place for our children to live. Together, were building a better california. Now for what in the world segment. Isis is fighting fearlessly against iraqis and sudan and its new neighbor and south sudan on war. Those conflicts and more are all on one side of if mthe map. Turn the globe and you will see the world is changing. The last piece of that puzzle was filled in just a few days ago. This week, the columbian government signed a historic peace deal. The spanish acronym for revolutionary forces on columbia. With a stroke of a pen s symbolically made out of bullet. The peace official is expected to be made today in the referendum ended the conflict that lasted 10 columbian president s left 220,000 people dead and displaced 5 million more. Even more remarkable that marks the record accomplishment. Peace and half the world, now, there are still rebel groups and drug related violence, 30 years ago, civil war raged across latin america. The harvard professor and columbian president , juan san s santos, they noted, the worlds war are concentrated exclusively in a zone stretching from nigeria to pakistan. An area containing only six of worlds population. Far from being a world at war as many people believe that we in happ in that region is the anomaly in an other wise clear trend towards less violence. There is been a spike in war deaths in recent years, though the number declined in 2015. This up dig is largely due to the syrian civil war, a concentrated tragic phenomenon. The larger trend is Armed Conflict have declined by near 40 since the cold war ended. Lets look at terrorism. The global terrorism database shows that in 2015, there were 12 fewer terror attack than 2014. 2015 was a horrible year for the western world and one attack is too many. Western europe experienced more terror attack between 1970s and 1974. It turns out one of our biggest problems is perception and not reality particularly among america. For instance, 48 of americans worry a great deal about a possible terrorist attacks. The threats are real and they want attention. Pikard pointed to bill clintons tag line. The former president is known to say, follow the trend lines and not the headlines. Next on gps. Secretary clinton, yes, is that okay . I want you to be happy, it is very important to me. What may clinton face if she were elected as the first president of the United States. I will ask the first female Prime Minister of austria about her experience, it is an eye opener, thats for certain. Yeah. Well, we gotta hand it thto fedex. Glasses. See you, dale. Bye, rob. Not now and not ever. That was not a normal workplace disagreement. The speaker was austrias Prime Minister Julia Gallard. The target of her is tony abbott. I was offended when the leader went outside in the front of parliament and stood up to a sign that says ditch the witch. Everyday and every way of the opposition have sat in that chair and i sat in this chair, thats all we have heard from him. Since resigning as Prime Minister in 2013, Julia Gallard has been speaking up about sexism in politics. She tells us how she sees Hillary Clinton is being treated in the president ial campaign. Julie, it is a pleasure to have you on. Thank you very much. You are always interested in these issues but they came ahead in a very now famous moment in your career and you seem to speak about sexism with a great deal of emotions. Thats why the clip went viral the way it did. Was that year been a tough strasburg that will came through that moment. Yes, i think it was. When i became Prime Minister, it is obvious that i was the first woman that i did not wonder around, i was the first woman and well noted and when i first encountered some gender treatment as Prime Minister, i ignored it, everybody is going to carry on about me being the first Prime Minister moment, the maximum, you know sexism or we are ready for this will be in the early days and it will work its way right out of the system and i will get treated like everybody else. What i actually found was the longer i was Prime Minister and like most governments, the long they had to deal with controversial issues, you lose a little bit of political skin and in harder political times. The longer i was there, the gender stuff increased, it became the goto weapon in fierce policy debate so gender insults. It did get to the stage on that day when i gave what is known as the masgyny speech that was the time when i said it is enough. It is an emblem of what thy wish they see in a moment. They either deliberately walked away or took it on their chin or did not caught what to say or wake up at 3 00 in the morning and wished they said it. For many, that comes to represent them in that moment. Do you think Hillary Clinton is being held to a different standard . Absolutely. A different standard in all senses. The nature of the insults against her and what has been a Ferocious Campaign and gender insult and the scrutiny on age question has played out differently for her. Women do see women age and coming to a different set of conclusions. I think there is been this question for her of likeablikab. Hillary clinton is not likable, i know Hillary Clinton, shes incredibly likable and i actually think that people have come to that conclusion partly through the person of gender and subconscious bias that a woman thats right up there must be a tough sword. I think that there are a lot of levels and different set of tastes being run over Hillary Clinton than over mr. Trump or at an earlier stage of the contest of other potential candidates. You have spent a lot of time in your post Prime Minister superior focusing on the issues of Women Education and girls education. Still feel that there are a significant in equalities and you pointed out in an article that even though you have all these powerful people, it is still remarkable how under represented women are in the corridor of power. Absolutely. I am motivated to see that change. When we look around our world today, we can basically number on the fingers of our hands, how many Senior Leaders we have got. Thats nowhere near efficient. Here in the u. S. , we may see a break through with the election of president clinton. If we are having an equal world, well be able to look around countries and say they led by men and women in roughly equal numbers. To get there, we got to increase the number of women coming into politics and serving in parliament and serving in positions like secretary of state or treasury or any of the senior positions and to get there, of course, we got to do things in our society and around the world that gives girls an equal chance to boys. When i speak on gender, i spoke about how i got a great quality education but still they taught the girls cooking and sewing and laundry while girls are learning about work and electronics. We have seen hundreds of millions of girls who dont get to go to school or go for a number of years or their education is at a poor quality that they may have well never st step inside the classroom. Thats the problem we are going to solve if we are going to have women coming through to consider as leadership. Julie gillard. Thank you for coming on. Thank you very much. Up next, the united nations. Well talk about it all in a moment. Because, healthier doesnt happen all by itself. It needs to be earned every day. Using wellness to keep away illness. And believing a single life can be made better by millions of others. As a Health Services and Innovation Company optum powers modern healthcare by connecting every part of it. My roommates help out all the time. They are glad to meet the guests and that opportunity that airbnb has given me is such a priceless gift. I was able to take three months off to take car of my family during a family tragedy. The extra income that i get from airbnb has been a huge impact in my life. Eight months ago, my next guest had the triumph of her life. At such, the first female president of any Pacific Island nation. She had to face reality. The fooi islands that made up her nation may not have a future not if climate continues. What does remain is frequently flooded or ravish by threat. If temperatures rise 105 degrees celsius, her nation could sink. So what is to be done . Dr. Hilda hein thank you for coming on. Thank you for having me on your show. What is the scenario that you are worried about of Climate Change . Well, there are people who say that we maybe under water in 20 to 50 years. We dont like to think that thatll happen, of course, we want to make sure that our country and nation and culture remains in our generations to enjoy and appreciate. We are doing whatever we can during our power to look for solutions. What can you do . You are a small country and 72,000 people. You dont have the kind of economic military power that would cause people to Pay Attention to you. Well, i would like to think that we have soft power and we come to the world using our moral voice, i dont think the International Community would want cluultures and nations to wiped off the face of the earth. The power of working together of what we saw in paris last year, we have hopes that there will be solutions and that we can legislative through thlive through this. There is another as p econnect that fascinated me. You are part of your country, which is the place where bombs were tested. The phrase bikini coming out of the idea that this is a sexy and new things to explode in adam bombs. What are the issues that persist from those tests. Unfortunately, thats been, you know, unfortunate legacy, the Nuclear Legacy for our people. 67 atomic bombs were detonated and between 1946 and 1956, over a ten year period, loss of land, of course, some islands were decimated and are no longer there. People were dislocated or relocated from their lands because the area and the program cut was conducted and contaminated. People cannot live on these lands. There are people who are nuclear known at in the martial islands. We had one o f the highest rates of cancer in the world. All kinds of cancer. What we are seeking in the u. S. Is justice for the people who are relocated and for the health of people. We dont feel that justice is being accomplished so we continue to seek that. Is the United States being responsive . Well, under the treaty agreement, they think they settle all the issues which you know in our opinion justice has not been accomplished. We continue to search and look for ways to gain that justice for our people. If the sea level keep rising. You have an escaped strategy in a sense because of your treaty o f the United States allowing the people to live in the United States, you already have what is it 10,000 People Living in arkansas and california. Can you imagine a situation where the whole country leaves. Well, i dont want to think of the scenario, i am one of the believer that well remain there and leaving of the Marshall Island and the culture that we have and be in a different land. The land is connected to our culture and our people. For us, it is really important that we remain here. Hilda heine, it is a pleasure to have you on thank you very much. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. I asked him about the video he made looking for the anthropologist of h is retirement and he said pizza delivery man and comedian and a sky diving instructorer. In that part, i thought you particularly showed skills. Thats a compliment. I admired him most for never forgetting that the satate of israel had a calling for those who believe in democracy and especially for the jewish people. Listen to him on the importance of two states solution. We, the jewish people were not born to govern other people, it stands for everything that we stand for.
