Beach back to cleveland. But will Everyone Welcome lebron james back . Also in world news, after taking back one Strategic Cold war chip in ukraine, Vladimir Putin is right now visiting the castro brothers. One presumes hes in cuba for more than sun and rum. Is this part of his whole get in the wests Head Campaign . Good afternoon, everyone. Welcome to the lead. Im jake tapper. The world lead, right now millions living with the fear that a an rocket or missile col forever change their lives or take their lives. Israel now on alert from an attacking from two fronts after a rocket was fired from lebanon today likely from hezbollah tied up in that civil war in syria. Its not difficult to see how with just the slightest miscalculation or provocation, this could explode into a greater conflict. No one died in that attack from lebanon or for that matter, from the 100 rockets fired by hamas militants in gaza todayed. 100 more since monday. The body count on the israeli side is zero. Though one was serious will i injured when a rocket hit a fuel tank near a gas station. But the israeli air strikes on gaza have been punishing. There are no signs is israel will ease off soon. Health officials are blaming israeli repa israeli air strikes for at least 100 victims. When the sirens go off, the only thing moving faster than your feet might be your heart and we got a taste of what its like living in israel right now when wolf blitzer was forced to take cover from a hamas rocket. Take a look. I can hear the sirens have just gone off. Were all being told to get to a shelter. So were running in. Wolf blitzer joins us now from jerusalem. From your Vantage Point on the ground, how are things looking for this conflict . Is there any chance of a ceasefire . It doesnt look like there is any time soon. There are some efforts behind the scenes but i havent heard of any progress whatsoever. I suspect its going to get worse in the coming days. The israelis are really threatening to not only continue their punishing air strikes as you point out but also massing thanks, armored personnel carriers lots of troops on the border with gaza. No one here would be surprised if they start moving in at some point. There is dramatic clot escalate whats going on. The fallout from that is certainly unpredictable. What happens as far as other fronts opening up from the north in lebanon, for example. So its a very, very tense situation right now. I suspect its about to get worse. A Ground Invasion youre talking. What would that achieve, wolf . Well, the israelis say they have no intention of reoccupying gaza. They occupied gaza till 2005. Then they withdrew. Hamas eventually took over. They were democratically elected in an election and took over. Whats going on now, obviously, is whats going on. What the israelis would do with a Ground Invasion at least according to what im hearing is try to destroy as much of hamass arsenals, the missiles and weapons that they have and then they would move out and presumably get a year or two breathing before they would once again be rearmed. I dont think the israeliss have in any inclination of trying to reoccupy gaza. This is a very small area with about 1. 5 palestinians if not more. There are a lot of questions being asked in israel, what would be the achievement, if any, and presumably a lot of israeli troops would get killed in the process. So its a very difficult decision whether to send in the ground forces, a decision that the Prime Minister and the security cabinet in jerusalem have to make. Wolf blitzer, thanks. Youll have more in your special twohour edition of the situation room tonight at 5 00 p. M. Eastern. Pointing fingers, assessing blame is easy. Finding a solution, thats difficult. So lets bring in two expert whos know the situation in the middle east. Michele dunne was a long time middle east specialist at the state department and now a senior associate of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the Washington Bureau chief. Michele, welcome to both of you. Benjamin netanyahu said no International Pressure will prevent us from striking the terrorists who are attacking us. But as you know, as even the israelis concede, not everyone theyre striking is a terrorist. Some of them are innocent victims, the individuals watching the world cup, the 4yearold and other children we hear about all the time. Are israelis not feeling any heat internationally . Is the Obama Administration putting any pressure on them . President obama did telephone Prime Minister in thennia hugh and offer to mediate. I would say this isnt the first one of these limited wars between hamas and israel. Theres been one almost every year the last six years. Typically they last about a week or so, some of them have gone on longer. Unfortunately were still in an escalating phase of this. At some point, there will be room for mediation. Im not sure how much of a role the United States will actually play in that case but there will be probably be escalating international condemnation. We saw criticism even today from the u. N. Envoy for human rights saying some of the attacks that israel is carrying out could be considered crimes against humanity and so forth. So i think there will be probably as the palestinian casualties escalate, they are escalating and certainly if israel goes in on the ground, they will escalate vet very sharply. Then well see International Calls theres got to be something done. Also israel at some point might turn to the United States and say help us find a way out of this. Hisham, lets talk about the civilian casualties in gaza right now. The israelis say as they always say theyre doing everything they canning to target terrorists, militants and not hit innocent civilians. They say the reason innocents are dying is because of human shields and because hamas embeds within the local population. What are you hearing from your sources on the ground there. Why are so many civilians dying . Its the most depsly populated region in the whole world. Thats one. This is the israeli m. Offering. Theyve been saying this since they were attacking the plo in lebanon and the invasion in lebanon in 1982. They are hiding behind human shields. You cannot because the area is full of people. And so and the israelis have been reckless when it comes to civilian casualties whether the lebanese and palestinians and others. Now sometimes they are warning people. Its as if the palestinians should be grateful they have been warned to leave their homes so their homes and property will be destroyed and there will be a massive collective punishment they have been subjected to. The problem with this particular crisis now is its taking place at a time when the whole region from beirut in the west to alexandria in the south is sliding towards hell. And thats one of the reasons by the way, you dont see tlests outcry because the arabs are trying to put out fires in their own countries and everybody is watching the world cup and the israelis found this moment very opportunistic to do so. But there will be a time when as michele said, with the mounting palestinian casualties, the israelis will find themselves doing again something that is absurd. You visit gaza with your airplanes and your thanks every year or 18 months. And every time you try to achieve something different. Every time they are radicalizing the population further and now the types of hamas leadership they are facing is more more lethal to them than the liedership they faced 15, 20 years ago. Michele is, most palestinians like israelis just want peace and to go about their lives. I dont know how well served they are bill hamas when they elected hamas but that is who they elected. Is it possible that both the idf and what hisham said just now the are correct, they are using human shields embedded in the population and the israelis are not as careful as they claim to be and going after people within the most densely populated area in the world . Are both sides to a degree at fault . Thats certainly the case and certainly gazans are not well served by hamas, havent been since 2007. If you look at Public Opinion polls, the popularity of hamas has fallen sharply. Unfortunately, these engagements with israel have a contradictory effect of bolstering the credibility of hamas somehow. And undermining moderates. Thats right. Theyre the only ones fighting israel and so forth. So the and i think hamass actions here have been very desperate. You know the . I mean, that they almost have nothing left to lose here. Theyve been cut off economically. Theyre sort of at economic siege on gaza. And especially since the coup. Egypt last year, the egyptian side of the border has been very tight and so you know, hamas i think doesnt have much to lose and i think they hope by fighting with israel, theyll become more popular and have more of a role. Hisham, what do the leaders of the palestinians need to do to stop this on their side . Obviously sft israelis need to stop it but on the palestinian side. The there is a sense on the part of hamas. Theyre squeezed between hamas and merciless israel. No resolution. The israelis are not going to find a military solution to the palestinian patron problem. And overall palestinian problem problem boils down to single issue which is the occupation. I think an occupation can only be maintained by a system of coercion. This is the ralt they will live under and the reality the israelis should understand at one point that they have to undo. I also worry just like the moderate palestinians are being undermined so are the moderate israelis. Thank you so much. We appreciate your time. Lets break for peace in the region. Today, finally, they had something to cheer for and boy, did they. We got lebron james. Thank you. Thats the reaction to lebron james announcing he was returning to his home two, the land of cleave and to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the franchise that took him as the number one overall pick in the draft in 2003, believe it or not. Its the kind of serve you only see in maybe star wars, the hero turned villain gets redemption. He announced it in a Sports Illustrated essay. Saying i looked at other teams but i wasnt going to leave miami except for anywhere but cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy. So lebron is happy. But this guy, well, this guy right here might be it the saddest man in america today, a guy with a miami sized is lebron tat. Well see if cleveland is clearing just as loud in june as they are now. Martin savidge is live today. Whats it like in cleveland right now. We are at the center of euphoria when it comes to cleveland, ohio. Im here with all my cleveland friends. On what we know is a wonderful, wonderful day. Let me talk. Im going to talk to a couple of you. Sir, look at you, head to toe cavalier. I assume this has been in the closet for a couple years but you brought it out now. I havent missed a cavs game in 11 years. How does it feel to have lebron . It feels like coming home. I left for a while and i came back home. Its about 360, full circle. A lot of people say that too, are i should say that sometimes cleveland, we know you got to leave to realize you love it. And what are you hoping now when he comes back . Im hoping for a Championship Ring and get some oomph in this business to be done. He can shape these young guys to a championship. Young guys. The guys a young guy himself. But the thing is, what many of the fans really like, jake, is the wait that will lebron said it. It was about coming home. Pretty cool. Martin savidge in cleveland. Thank you so much. Joining us now to talk lebron is the host of espn clevelands the really big show, aaron goldhammer. Good to see you. Alls forgiven . Well, at this point, yeah. I mean after reading that essay, jake, you know, it was beautifully written. He said all the things in that essay today that we hoped he would say, but didnt say in 2010. You know, its been a wild ride for us covering lebron over the course of the last ten years. This is just another crazy turn. He goes from villain to hero in cleveland in the span of one internet post. Explain to viewers who have not been to your lovely land of cleave be what this exactly means for your city. Its huge. You know, cleveland is a city that, as you said in the come back from break, is the butt of jokes. Rivers on fire and people who have never been here dont understand what a great place it really is and the wonderful people that are here. Im not originally from cleveland but i moved here eight years ago in part to cover lebron. Ive grown to love it here and to consider myself a clevelander. Its all about the civic pride. You know . Our sports history is colored in things like the drive and the fumble and the shot and lebron leaving the browns moving to baltimore back in 1995. This is finally a Huge Positive to put on our ledger. Its a huge day for civic pride. And i think it is hands down the greatest cleveland sports day of the last 50 years. You covered lebron when he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and then when he left, he became for a while there the most hated athlete in america. Somehow he turned it around somehow with his championships he turned it around. How is he as a person different than he was then . You know, i think hes matured a lot. Oddly enough lebron and i are close to the same age. Im a few years older. Your priorities, whats going on in your life when youre 26 is much different than it is when youre 30. So i think family and home and those things are a lot more important now than they were in his mid 20s. I think hes grown up a lot. Hes gotten married. He has a third kid on the way. And even though i dont cover him on a day to day like i did back in the early part of his career, you could feel that maturity ringing through the essay that was posted on si. Com earlier today. The love not felt everywhere. We were just showing images of a mural defaced in miami. I want to read from a letter written by cabs owner dan gilbert. Killing lebron for leaving four years ago. Might keep him from returning to cleveland. Part of the letter said i personally guarantee the Cleveland Cavaliers will win an nba championship before the selftitled former king wins one. You can take it to the bank. Two points lebron. Can these two coexist at the cavs . I think they can. There was a report out in the last hour that dan and lebron met face to face on sunday in miami. And there was a total airing of the grievances. Dan had a right to be upset at lebron for everything that happeneded in 2010. Lebron had definitely a right to be upset about dan. There are things written in that letter that seemed important to us in cleveland in 2010 and now appear ridiculous like the stretch that you just read. So i think that the two the can coexist because in this meeting, there was some. Real forgiveness and there was a real honest conversation and i think its a real lesson about not burning bridges in business but also being open and honest with people who you have disagreements or issues with, that stuff can be overcome. I think lebron and dan, if its not totally overcome at this point, theyre on the road to overcoming it together. Otherwise, i dont think you would see lebron resigning a festivus moment. Now theyre back together. Aaron, thank you so much. Coming up next, i hear the cigars are great. Putin, the russian president showing up 90 miles off the United States for facetime with the castros. Fighting children and judo people, and annexing crimea from ukraine and an amazzing troops at the border for a possible invasion. I thought he couldnt do anything at this point that would surprise me but then today, you showed up in cuba to hang out with the castro brothers. Has he found new camaraderies . Patrick oppmann joins us from havana. What is putin doing in cuba, at least the official version . Reporter you know, Vladimir Putins message couldnt be clearer. Russia wants back into cuba. Ever since the fall of the soviet union, cubas economy has been a basket case. Part of the problem was russia has been demanding for over 20 years they pay them back to the tune of 30 billion. A lot of the assistance they received during the cold war. Thats been a big problem, to say the least. Now, thats all behind us because russia has said as of last week that most of that debt is forgiven. They want stronger ties and want to invest in cuba and have economic relations with cuba. They want to have a stronger military relations. Theres even some talk about russia wanting naval bases here again. Its all shades of the cuban missile crisis. A lot of this is probably just to get under u. S. Officials skin. But Vladimir Putin is meeting with raul castro and expected to meet with fidel castro. The russian president made some very strong overtures during his visit. Do the cuban people welcome stronger ties with russia after things had dissolved with the collapse of the soviet union . You know, heres the irony is the country that cuba now wants most to have best relations with is the United States. Their number one priority is now the u. S. Economic embargo lifted. This doesnt really help. They have to walk a bit of a tight rope here. If they annoy the United States too much, it will dash efforts to try and improve relationshipses with washington. The economy here is in dire straits. Cuba is in no shape to turn downy friends whether they come from east or west. Patrick, thank you so much. Express deals. Priceline savings without the bidding. Welcome back to the lead. The politics lead. It sounds like the speakers new suit will be a tight fit. For weeks john boehner has been threatening to slap the president of the United States with a lawsuit over his broad use of executive authority. But republicans have been playing the details close to the vest shall we say. Now were finally learning some of the specifics. Despite executive orders and actions on everything from immigration to the minimum wage for workers to the environment, for john boehner it apparently all comes down to obamacare, a sharp dressed issue that never goes out of style for the Republican Base. Dana bash is here. So dana, let me make sure i understand it. Boehner wants to sue president obama for giving businesses a delay on that obamacare mandate. Is that right . Thats right. Thats the issue that they decided to hone in on. However, they say that they believe based on the legal advice theyve been getting, theyve been looking into this for months that is their best chance at succeeding in a lawsuit against the president for any kind of executive action because they believe that he absolutely had no grounds to do that without congressional approval. Having said that as you know, it doesnt take a Rocket Scientist to note that obamacare is the number one issue that riles the Republican Base and i talked to several republicans on capitol hill today who didnt deny that. You know, obviously, they didnt care that there was a delay for businesses. That wasnt an issue. But i want to the real big question i think is with this pressing Immigration Crisis going on, president obama took executive action in 2012 the baby d. R. E. A. M. Act where he let some people who came to this country as children opened the doors to a path to citizenship. A lot of people think that helped encourage this crisis on the border. Theres a lot of different theories, of course. Wouldnt that also be a good thing to include in this lawsuit considering its so pressing and immediate . Thats a great question. Perhaps the answer was they didnt feel they were on as strong legal standing. Lets go back to what the issue is, that theyre suing on which is the number one issue in the election that they hope will be to rile up the base. Pete sessions is the rules chairman and hes the one shepherding this through the house before they take it to the courts. I asked him about that today. Take a listen. Why just focus on health care . Doesnt it make it look political. In fact, it does not because it is the Biggest Issue that faces america today. It deals with every. Single american and 80 million americans this year. So no, its not political but then he explains why politically they have differences with the president on the substance, not necessarily on what the speaker says the real issue is which is a constitutional difference between the executive branch and the legislative branch. Dana bash, thank you so much. So what does this all mean for the Immigration Crisis on the border . Lets bring in Texas Attorney general greg abbott, a republican who is also a candidate for governor in the Lone Star State facing democrat wendy davis. So mr. Abbott, whats your reaction to the speaker not bringing in any immigration issues, not mentioning the dreamers order of 2012 in his proposed lawsuit . I would imagine that would be a bit disappointing . Well, whats disappointing is the fact that just yesterday, the president was here in texas, here in austin, just a few hundred miles away from the border and he turned his back on the border. He called this place a crisis. Just a week or two ago. And he could not respond to a crisis by himself showing up and trying to address this issue. This is a huge challenge for the state of texas, jake. We expect the president to live up to his responsibility and the federal governments responsibility to secure our border and to address this is unprecedented influx of immigrants everybody Central America. Thats my point. Wouldnt you want that to be in the lawsuit that Speaker Boehner is bringing up then . Heres the deal, jake. Yeah, and that is i have no control over any litigation that the house leader may bring against the Obama Administration. What i do have control over, however, is litigation that i may bring. As we speak, i am working on potential litigation against did the Obama Administration for not living up to its responsibilities to secure the border. Im in the process of gathering all the costs the texas taxpayers may have incurred so far because of the governments negligence. Its about 50 million youre saying because of added boots on the ground at the border. How do you stop this influx . You want to be the governor of texas. Youre the attorney general of texas. Its not like you dont have any role. How do you stop these tens of thousands of undocumented young men youngsters and men and women from coming in . I have a plan already outlined thats on my website that deals specifically with securing our border. It requires more boots on the ground. Ive been involved in these operations when the Texas Department of Public Safety goes to the border and every time that we have done this, it has staunched the flow of illegal operations across the border. So it doesnt take a Rocket Scientist to figure out if we do this on an ongoing basis, it will staunch the flow on an ongoing basis. Thats why the state of texas a couple of weeks ago reentered our department of Public Safety to the border region to help secure the border and we expect to have more boots on the ground on a permanent basis. However, because this is a national and international border, this it is something that the federal government has the primary responsibility to deal with. So to the extent that states. Wouldnt you have thousands more Border Patrol officers . Wouldnt you have tens of millions of dollars more already to deal with this if the house took up the senates Immigration Reform bill which had a Strong Border control component to it that republicans in border states supported . It should not take all the time that would be required for a law to pass. The president has said he has a pen that he can sign and he needs to sign a check to take care of this. He needs to weve already made a request for the National Guard. He should immediately send 1,000 National Guard down to the border. I have personally made requests to jeh johnsons office for resources that we need. Jake, this is something that could happen overnight if the president did not turn his back on the u. S. Border and took care of his responsibility. But you know what president obama told your governor rick perry the other day whether he perry said take some executive action here. He said hes being sued by john boehner and the House Republicans for exerting himself too much. He does that as a concerned things which you were talking about previously about realtering the obamacare law. He doesnt have to come up with an act of Congress Florida state order to appropriate funds or the National Guard to the state of texas. This is something he has unilateral authority to do. He can trigger the on his own and get it done tomorrow if he really cared about addressing the problem. But he said what he needs is people like you and people like be governor perry to encourage House Republicans to come together at the table so they can it can solve the problem. Is that what youre doing . Well, i think its embarrassing of the if the president is trying to enlist lobbyists to try to help him get action done when the president himself made clear hes the one who has responsibility for creating this crisis in the first place. And so what the president needs to do is double down on his International Message that you cannot have people coming to this country illegally and expecting to stay here. He needs to double down on his message if you come here illegally you will be returned and he needs to step up and secure the border by adding increased Border Patrol agents, the National Guard increased boots on the ground and assets in the air. I just want to clarify something. Did you say that president obama has acknowledged causing the problem at the border . I might have misherd you. Yeah, the president made a statement about a week ago where he made clear to people in Central America or really around the world dont come here, dont risk your lives coming here because you will be sent back. And its commonly perceived that that was in response to what has been said by me and others and that is that this influx increased after the president stood in the rose garden in 2012 sending a message by his proclamation that young immigrants would be allowed to stay here. Its been commonly said by immigrants to Border Patrol agents in south texas they were coming here because they perceived the president was allowing them to stay here. I had heard the 2008 law signed into law by president bush which allowed people from Central America, youngsters, kids to stay later and not be immediately deported to have years and years before their hearing, that that was also responsible. Neither of us knows why these rumors took hold. But in any case, Texas Attorney general greg abbott, i thank you for your time. Coming up next, how do you tell your friend that youre sorry and not really sorry and that im not going to stop doing itting . President obama automatic walking the fine line with germanys Angela Merkel. Could this be the ends of their close relationship . [ heart beating, monitor beeping ] woman what do you mean, Homeowners Insurance doesnt cover floods . [ heart rate increases ] man a few inches of water caused all this . [ heart rate increases ] woman 2 but i dont even live near the water. What you dont know about Flood Insurance may shock you including the fact that a preferred risk policy starts as low as 129 a year. For an agent, call the number that appears on your screen. Welcome back to the lead. World news, Angela Merkel has a rocky relationship with american intelligence i think its fair to say. The nsa tapped her cell phone, allegedly. The cia infiltrated the German Military allegedly and convinced a German Foreign intelligence agent to sell secrets to the United States. Of course, thats also allegedly. So what is a Prime Minister to do, a chancellor . When you cant hold a secret meeting because your government is possibly full of spies . Well, you expel the cias top operative in berlin. Michele kaczynski is at the white house. It seems like only yesterday president obama hosted merkel. He talked about their friendship even on a personal level sayinging it pained him the prior spying disclosureses will sprained that relationship. Now this happens leaving the u. S. And germ to try to talk things out in private. A public embarrassment. The cia station chief in berlin of all places capital of one of our closest most important european allies kicked out of the country when germans uncovered what were allegedly some u. S. Covert ops. The germans talking openly about the hurt. The betrayal of it all. Today the German Foreign minister said expelling the cia chief was the right decision, a necessary step, a fitting reaction to the break of trust. Taking action was unavoidable, he said. The u. S. Has been far more quiet on the topic, no, the cia isnt tweeting about it 37 but today the white house offered this. Allies with sophisticated intelligence agencies like the United States and germany understand with some degree of detail exactly what those intelligence relationships and activities entail. The germans say there is good contact still between top levels of both countries. The white house did confirm the conversations are going on right now in the private. And that the u. S. Respects germanys choices whom to allow in their country even adding glowing praise for Angela Merkel, an effective partner and leader who puts the best interests of her country first. The president of the United States and the chancellor of the federal republic of germany. Back in may is, obama and merkel presented a united is front even on tacklinging this touchy touchy spying issue. Remember a year ago it came out the nsa spied on merkels phone conversations. Obama conciliatory. What ive done is taken the unprecedented step of ordering our intelligence communities to take the privacy interests of nonu. S. Persons into account in everything they do. Pledging he said to merkel to also close the gaps in the ways u. S. And german intelligence operate and ensure clarity. Merkel not seeming fully convinced at the time saying theres still divisions that need work. Yesterday why calling apparent continued spying a waste of energy. So this alleged spying does not involve phone tapping but does include german citizens. One reportedly within the Foreign Intelligence Service there is accused of passing documents related to the Edward Snowden investigation to the cia. The other reportedly within the Defense Ministry in germany. The white house says that obama and merkel so far have not talked about this. Jake . Michelle kaczynski at the white house. To talk more about the of relationship between germany and the United States, fromder speakal, thanks so much for being here. Tom ask the intelligence chief to pack up and leave, thats usually the thing you do for north korea or iran. How much trust has Angela Merkel lost for the United States and president obama . What we see clearly is an alltime low in the relationships. Merkel thought she reacted calm when she realized her her cell phone was tapped almost a decade. She didnt complain publicly. She would be over it. Its a story you broke. Thats a story we broke at der spiegel. The general reaction why quite calm. She traveled to washington in may and met obama and thought we could get over it. Its a huge setback in the relations. How much, i mean germany and the u. S. Cooperate on so many things. How much could this actually endanger the u. S. , germany economically relationship or military relationship . It probably wont affect the big crisis, the tensions in the middle east, potential war. But everything beyond that point take the transatlantic trade agreement, take swift safe harbor, the agreements between europe and the United States which are essentially for the economy and also politics, they are all endangered. Its a huge dwis appointment not only with the conservatives in berlin but the whole population. It will be very hard to regain trust. A german official was supposed to visit next week and cancelled. Right, its the German Foreign chancellor who was supposed to come to d. C. Next week. He postponed his visit. The official reason was because of unrest in the middle east. He mentioned the middle east but behind the scene its clear there is no reaction from the white house so far. There has been no call. Obama didnt call merkel and no public explanation. I think obama is in a very difficult position and the germans realize the white house is not moving. The balls in president obamas court. He needs to reach out to merkel and explain or apologize or do thing. At least show regret. Hes responsible for the cia did he know about that . Then he carries the full responsibility or didnt he know . Then he is obviously a leader who is not in charge or control anymore of his spy agency. Saying nothing is not enough. Thank you so much. In other National News there are pretty horrific crimes out there making headlines these days such as the case of Ron Lee Haskell accused of killing six relative of his estranged wife, four of them children. Many cases go go unsolved. That is where john walsh comes in. He spent more than two decades catching criminals on americas most wanted and now hes back fighting crime with his new cnn show the hunt. Ill always be the parent of a murdered child. I still have the heart ache. I still have the rage. I waited years for justice. I know what its like to be there waiting for some answers. And over those years, i learned how to do one thing really well. And thats how to catch these bastards and bring them back to justice. John joins us right now. Thanks for joining us. Has been a crusade for you since 1981 when your 6yearold son adam was murdered. Had your sons case wasnt closed till 2008, 27 years later. Youre doing the show to bring these victims families not only justice but also closure. Did you get either of those in adams case, justice or closure . Well, jake, youre exactly right. Ive walked in all those shoes of the victims cases that i do. So it took 27 years. We always believed that ottis tool, is the serial killer who decide eight years before adams case was opened was the guy who killed adam. So i didnt think it would affect me that much that day. We were there with my wife and our three children weve had for since adam was murdered. And it was a huge day for us. It did end that chapter. There will never be such a thing as closure. Well always be the parents of a murdered child. Hell always have that hole in our heart. But we got justice. It was a huge day for us. Im glad you found justice if not closure. Lets talk about this weeks show. Youre profiling the case of a california man suspected of killing his wife and children. Lets play a week from this weeks show. Shane mill officer had no involvement with Law Enforcement in the county up until there was the Domestic Violence that started occurring between him and his wife. Shane had assaulted her, tortured her, choked her, threatened her with guns. You know, he was threatening to kill her whole family. Why start with this case, john . This case means a lot to me because i think anybody that would hurt a child is a coward. There are other ways to go. This guy police are absolutely surely that he killed his wife. And he shot his 5yearold and 8yearold daughters in the face. He killed them. Then he chose to run. To me, this is a sociopat thick coward. When they probably instituted the largest manhunt in Northern California history, they found a bunker where he had over 47 automatic assault rifles and over 100,000 rounds of ammunition. So this guy was prepared to run. Hes got a lok history with Law Enforcement. Jake, hes really dangerous and anybody that could kill a child is on the top of my list. And i am hoping sunday night, the world is going to be a much smaller place for this coward. Somebodys going do give us that tip or go to our website. I guarantee people can remain anonymous. Well get this creep off the streets. When people call in and give these tips, which is obviously what your previous show was successful at doing and what we hope this new show will do, as well, what motivated them . Is it the reward . Is it al truism . Why do they do you it . We never offered rewards. We caught 17 guys off the fbis ten most wanted, we caught guys in 45 countries. People want to do the right thing. Lots of people dont want to talk to police. Theyre afraid. They might be an illegal. Their cousin might be the gang banger im looking for and theyre worried about retribution. They can go to cnn. Com the hunt or call our toll freel hot line. Cops dont answer the phone. My train operators answer the phone. You dont have to give us your name. Ive learn the one thing over all the years. Most people want to see the cowards and streets off the streets. Theyll do the right thing if you give them a chance to do it anonymously. John, thank you so much. Best of luck with the show. Best of luck finding justice. You can watch the premier of the hunt this sunday at 9 00 p. M. On cnn. Its the least welcome thing to hit new england resort towns since jaws.
