Stopped trying to leave the country amidst allegations of bank fraud. Wait until you hear what job he had at the u. S. Capitol. Good afternoon, everyone, welcome to the lead, im jake tapper, were going to begin with breaking news in the politics lead just moments ago. The white house gave a total nonanswer to the question of whether President Trump still supports his white house chief of staff. We all serve at the pleasure of the president , and if it goats a place where that isnt the case, hell let you know. So you cant say right now if the president has full confidence in chief of staff Reince Priebus . I think i just answered that. This comes after so much drama in the white house today. One might be tempted to compare it to game of thrones, but in some ways its more like pennsylvania avenue becoming mel rose place. The embarrassing infighting spilled over and reached a whole new level. Today however, i am not referring to President Trumps public humiliation campaign against attorney general Jeff Sessions, though the template is similar. This time Anthony Scaramucci throwing rhetorical punches at Reince Priebus. According to scaramucci, hes doing this with the president s approval, and its all playing out in front of the world. Most recently on cnns new day with chris cuomo. As you know from the italian expression, the fish stanks from the head down. But i can tell you two fish that dont stink, and thats me and the president. I dont like the activity thats going on in the white house. I dont like what theyre doing to my friend. I dont like what theyre doing to the president of the United States. Or their fellow colleagues in the west wing. If you want to talk about the chief of staff, we have had odds, we have had differences. When i said we were brothers from the podium, thats because were rough on each other. Scaramucci had to call into cnn to explain a tweet that appears to suggest priebus, a guy who just a few days scaramucci described as a brother though today he compared it to cain and able, that priebus was behind White House Leaks damaging President Trump. More specifically, behind a story in politico about scaramuccis Financial Disclosure forms. He tweeted, quote, enlight of the leek of the my info which is a felony, i will be contacting the fbi and the Justice Department. Swamped. And then he tagged chief of staff priebus in the tweet. If reince wants to explain hes not a leaker, let him do that. Priebus had no comment today. For the record, no one needed to leak scaramuccis forms, they are public record. For anyone who asks for them from the bank where scaramucci worked until recently. Perhaps the most telling part of the interview had nothing to do with all of this drama between scaramucci and priebus, but rather, it was this moment when scaramucci, which when discussing presumably priebus, but perhaps others in the Trump Administration as well. There were people inside the administration that think it is their job to save america from this president. Okay, that is not their job. Their job is to inject this president into america. Contemplate that, quote, there are people inside the america that think it is their job to save america from this president , unquote. Now scaramuccis not wrong here. Hes 100 right. Not about what the job of administration staffers are, there are allegiance should be to the nation and the constitution, not to any specific president , but, about the fact that there are people in the Trump Administration who, quote, think it is their job to save america from President Trump. Many of them, appointees of President Trump. The Communications Director cited this fact as a complaint. It is not their job from the establishment, from councilification to sit there and try to withhold the president. Okay. To reign him in or do things to slow down their agenda. Thats not their job. Lets take a moment to acknowledge and contemplate this very striking truth delivered by scaramucci today. What are these Trump Administration officials doing to rein in President Trump and why do they feel the need to do so . Why are they so concerned about the president s behavior that they think they have to quote, save america from this president . Save america from what . What are they so worried about . These, quote, people inside the administration. Contemplate that fresh truth from the new white house Communications Director. Cnns sarah murray is at the white house for us and filed the report on the latest chapter in this very public drama. Reporter even for a white house known for dysfunction, the latest feud is taking a stunningly public turn. You want to talk about the chief of staff, we have had odds, we have had differences. When i said we were brothers from the podium, thats because were rough on each other. Some brothers are like cain and able. Other brothers can fight with each other and get along. I dont know if this is reparable or not. That will be up to the president , but hes the chief of staff. Reporter newly minted Communications DirectorAnthony Scaramucci calling into question Reince Priebuss standing in the white house. And suggesting the chief of staff prove for himself that hes not a leaker. When i put out a tweet, and i put reinces name in the tweet, theyre all making the assumption that its him because journalists know who the leakers are. If reince wants to explain that hes not a leaker, let him do that. Reporter priebus didnt comment on the matter thursday. But allies outside the white house came to his defense. Reince is a very close friend of mine. Reince is doing a fantastic job at the white house, and i believe he has the president s confidence. Reporter all his white house spokeswoman was left to play referee. The president hires the very best people. Theyre not always going to be agree. Theres a lot of different ideas, unlike previous administrations, this isnt group think. We all come and have a chance to voice those ideas, voice those perspectives, and have a lot of healthy competition, and with that competition, you usually get the best results. Reporter scaramuccis broadsides come on the personal Financial Disclosure, which scaramucci takes as sign that someone in the west wing is out to get him. Which is a felony. He tagged priebus in the tweet which he later deleted. A Justice Department spokeswoman weighed in on the leaking issue more broadly. Saying, we agree with anthony that these staggers number of leaks are undermining the ability of our government to function and to protect this country. And vowing to pursue leak cases wherever they lead. The backup from the Justice Department coming as trump doesnt appear to have his attorney generals back. And as the president s anger at Jeff Sessions simmers, republicans are issuing a stern warning. Back off. There will be no confirmation hearing for a new attorney general in 2017. If Jeff Sessions is fired. There will be holy hell to pay. Any effort to go after mueller could be the beginning of the end of the trump presidency. Reporter now, we havent heard a lot from Jeff Sessions as this drama has been playing out nap changed when he gave a couple of interviews, one he was asked whether he thoughts the president s criticism of him was fair. Heres what he said. Well, its kind of hurtful, but the president of the United States is a strong leader. He is determined to move this country in the direction he believes it needs to go to make us great again, and he is he had a lot of criticisms, and hes today is fastly determined to get his job done. And he wants all of us to do our jobs. And thats what i intend to do. Reporter sessions also made clear in a number of interviews that hes planning on staying on the job as long as trump will keep him in it, jake. And to be determined on Reince Priebus i suppose. Sarah murray, thank you so much. Shedding light on who the russians were on the meeting with them. Stick around for that story. Welcome back to the lead and our world lead today. New claims about the russians at the center of that 2016 meeting in june between donald trump jr. , jared kushner, and others. Bill broader, former Hedge Fund Manager testified that the russian lawyer at that meeting, natalia as well as others, the russian american lobbyist with alleged ties to russian intelligence were working on behalf of the kremlin, browder said, to overturn crippling u. S. Economic sanctions on human rights violators. Cnns mano raju is on capitol hill. You followed up with senator Lindsey Graham. He questioned browder, he asked him about the meeting in question. Reporter yeah, and he raised concerns after browders testimony. Browder saying that with 100 certainty in his view that the Intelligence Services in russia were aware of that june 2016 meeting before it happened, jake. And also, browder saying that it was a, quote, big ask for the people in that meeting, russians in the meeting to ask the Trump Campaign to move and try to get rid of the act, sanctions act against russia, the United States enacted in 2012. Now when i had caught up with Lindsey Graham after the pretty dramatic remarks by william browder, he said, very clearly, that perhaps this was not the only time that the russians met with the Trump Campaign and it pushed dirt and also to ask for something in exchange. And he said this is Something Congress needs to look into further. Heres what he said. Its also hard for me to believe that once the Trump Campaign expressed a desire to get help, yeah, love it, maybe later in the summer itd be better, but that meaning it was one and done. That contact came from a person that mr. Browder said should have been registered as russian agent. The russian female lawyer, the likelihood that contact needs to be looked into. Reporter now he also had some serious concerns about the possibility that trump may get rid of Jeff Sessions and bob mueller as a special council. And as a result, Lindsey Graham is drafting legislation, bipartisan tloegs try to insulate the special council from political pressure to say that if the special council were to be try to be fired by the president of the United States and there to be judicial review looked at first by judges to make sure that it is consistent with the law, expect that bill to be introduced next week, jake. Real concern on capitol hill by republicans and democrats alike that President Trump is going to try to fire bob mueller. Manu, the russian sanctions bill, new sanctions, as punishment for the election interference, passed by the senate, passed by the house, whats the latest on the status . Reporter overwhelmingly by both chamber, unanimously, something you rarely see. Now a final deal has been reached between the chairman of the Senate Foreign relations committee, bob korker, the House Majority leader, Kevin Mccarthy to move forward on this sanctions package that includes any effort to, by the white house to try to loosen russia sanctions at the congress essentially had to approve to that request. They could veto the possibility of loosening sanctions. Now one question is remaining, will President Trump sign this legislation or will he veto it . Today, asked at the white house, Sarah Huckabee sanders again would not say, said theyre still reviewing that. Thats a big question here. Whether or not they veto this, if they do, jake, certainly he would be overwritten, jake. Thank you so much. Russian president Vladimir Putin is firing back today, calling the new proposed sanctions illegal, and bemoaning that its a quote, pity u. S. Russia relations are being sacrificed. Cnns Senior International correspondent Matthew Chance had the opportunity to question putin personally at a News Conference today in finland. With these u. S. Congressional investigations, i thoroughly under way into allegations of russian meddling in the u. S. Election, and with the possibility of u. S. Sanctions being tightened shortly, do you sometimes sit in your office in the kremlin thinking about how badly u. S. Russian relations are going . And regretting the day that donald trump was elected . Translator the first point about the election of the u. S. President , thats not our business, and it is not up to us to assess what he does in this very senior post. Thats up to the u. S. Public. As far as the investigation which you referred to is concerned, i dont actually think it is an investigation because an investigation implies full study in the situation, the causes ensue. What we see is merely a growth of antirussian hysteria, and utilization of russia phobia for domestic policies. Putin has of course denied any russian interference in the u. S. Election, despite the american intelligence communitys certainty that it did happen. President trump has only said nice things about Vladimir Putin. So would mr. Trump really be tougher on russia than dong will as scaramucci claimed might happen . Stick around. When you really want to save big on a hotel just go to priceline. Sticking with politics, we have so much to talk about today with our panel, lets just dive in. Guys, i want to start with this rather astounding quote from Anthony Scaramucci talking to chris cuomo this morning. Lets roll that tape again. There are people inside the administration that think it is their job to save america from this president. Okay. That is not their job. Their job is to inject this president into america okay, we can put inject this president into america aside for a second, lets talk about, thats a fairly stark thing to say. I think its true. I think there are people inside the Trump Administration that think its their job to save america from this president. But im kind of stunned that mr. Scaramucci would admit it. Josh, start with you. Look, i mean, we have a management here issue. You know in business you often see teams of rivals to the point where Good Management means that people compete with each other and try to push each other to different conclusions to come out with better products what have you. In politics its difficult for a variety of reasons. Number one reason is in politics, youre under attack at all times. There is four, five, six opportunities every day to draw contrast between staff and their views and whatever bad decisions the press are criticizing on a daytoday basis. This administration really needs to figure out thousand get on the same page internally. Were talking about a spat with a weak old commune kaek week old Communications Director and on the day that the president s agenda is literally being determined. In the United States senate. Health care. Health care. Right. Right. So, this cant end soon enough for republicans, in my view in terms of the inner bickering and the problems between priebus and scaramucci. Yeah. Jen. Well, this has take telephone to a new level. I realize you picked out one clip from an astounding interview this morning. It was 25 minutes long. Whats striking to me as someone who served as the Communications Director for president obama your goal is never to be the story. Your goal is to further the agenda and the story of your boss. Thats the tired Old Washington way of doing things, jen. But i think thats really not giving what the role is enough credit. And what Public Service is enough credit. And he has become the story this week. So as josh said, were not talking about health care, maybe thats the goal, i dont really know. We havent been talking for months about specific pieces of the trump agenda because were talking about the whos up and whos done pieces. So, this was definitely a particularly striking piece of it, i would say that when youre president , youre elected by the people, and also the Communications Director, youre serving the American People as a Public Servant and hopefully come around to that in week two. I wont put money on it though. So, Reince Priebus is not the only one whos in the barrel this week. Jeff sessions is as well. He spoke with tucker carlson, take a listen. Well, its kind of hurtful, but the president of the United States is a strong leader. He is determined to move this country in the direction he believes it needs to go to make us great again, and he has had a lot of criticisms, and hes steadfastly determined to get his job done, and he wants all of us to do our jobs. And thats what i intend to do. Its kind of an impossible position attorney general sessions, but saying its kind of hurtful is fairly candid. It is candid. I mean, im sure thats exactly the way he feels, but Jeff Sessions has spent his adult life in Public Service. I mean, this is somebody whos literally dedicated his entire life to try to make the world a better place as far as he sees it. And hes stuck in a situation right now where hes got a president whos obviously trying to undercut him, but hes also got remarkable support on capitol hill. I mean, youve seen statements almost unsolicited coming out of senators, republican senators saying, please, Jeff Sessions, stay where youre at. What youre doing is good for the country and good for everything. And, you know, its hard to disagree with that. Again, another distraction, another situation where were not talking about the president s agenda here. And i think they can get off of all of this stuff and focus on health care and tax reform, which theyve tried to do today, later today, thats where they need to be. Thats where they can unite republicans. Sent a tweet out last night basedly saying, were not going to have hearings for a new attorney general. Lindsey graham said there will be hell to pay if the president fires sessions, and they are are also concerned about the president firing bob mul per. Yes. And many of them have spoken out about that as well to their credit. I think what were seeing right now in the Republican Party is many of them have tolerated trump, and they havent been quite able to figure out what his political power or his Political Support in the country means for them. But now when given the choice, if trump and sessions are on different sides of the road, theyre veering away from sessions. And they are protecting him. And thats an interesting dynamic. Because what does it mean for other policy. What does it mean for trumps agenda moving forward . I guess well see. Appreciate it. Coming up next, its anyones guess what version of Health Care Reform the senate will end up voting on in a few hours, but there was a lot of talk about so thecalled skinny repeal. Lets recall growing up and how we learned how Congress Makes a bill. Im just a bill yes im only a bill and if they vote for me on capitol hill well then im off to the white house where ill wait and now cue agent k and forget everything you just saw because this is not whats going on right now. Senate republicans are in the middle of a very messy attempt to repeal and maybe replace obamacare, soon they are going to start a late night vote called a voter ra ma approach to billmaking. Senators will get to offer unrelated health care amendments. Republicans hope this will end with a skinny repeal. A strip down plan that includes gutting the individual and employer mandates,er in at least six years. Defunding planned parenthood, taking off the table the medical device tax and more. Brianna keeler joins me now live from capitol hill. Brianna, do republicans hope that the bill will pass as is the skinny repeal and template on which they want to write a larger piece of legislation . They want to use it as a vehicle and hammer out something that will be a bill. This is not ultimately want to be the law of the land as they settle in here and its going to be a very long night. Its the voter ra ma as republicans are trying to take a crucial step forward as they try to overhaul obamacare. Were expecting this to get started this evening. And this could go into the wee hours of the morning. There is increasing confidence, and i will tell you among republicans that theyre going to get to those 50 votes as they would vote on this skinny repeal. It really is this paired down bill that as you mentioned would take out the individual mandate in the employer mandate, it would defund planned parenthood for a year and then move money towards Community Health centers to make up for women not being able to get care at planned parenthood. But it doesnt tackle some of the other big parts of obamacare. The subsidies that are so key to obamacare. The taxes that pay for obamacare, and its just a very unusual situation because these senators are getting ready to be voting on bill that they havent seen, that doesnt have a score from the congressional budget office, though that is going to change, and as we just discussed, isnt what they expect to be the law of the land. It really sl just a vehicle to try to move this forward and to discuss a further plan with house republicans. And, lisa murkowski, the republican senator from alaska who has voted no throughout this process, she reportedly was threatened by the Trump Administration through the interior department threatening to withhold funding for things, for items in her state. Shes striking back, huh . Reporter thats right, this is fascinating, the drama thats going down here. And i have to read a quote about what the interior secretary ryan zin i can said to lisa murkowski. Because she voted no on moving this bill along on tuesday, that it quote put alaskas future with the administration in jeopardy. Shes the chairwoman of the Energy Committee in addition to obviously being from alaska which has so many key issues that the interior department has control over, and what she did, jake, was she had a hearing today that she cancelled, and it was to move along nominations of six Trump Administration officials, three of them with the interior department. She was asked if this was payback, she denied that. She said that this was just a bump had come up and would have to be resolved, but make no mistake, this is very much seen as a message and a punchback. Brianna keeler on capitol hill, thank you so much. Sticking with the politics lead, the Trump Administration is cracking down on an International Street gang. Today the Justice Department announced the arrests of more than 100 members of ms13 in el salvador. This makes more than 700 gang members charged in the country over the past two days. It came as attorney general Jeff Sessions was in el salvador and his Justice Department is conducting its own crackdown. Lets go to Caitlin Collins at the white house. What else do we know about the attorney generals trip . Reporter so Jeff Sessions travelled to el salvador this morning, hes meeting with lawmaker officials there on efforts to combat this famously brutal gang. Hes going to meet with his salvador counterpart to zhusz, and also touring a detention facility while hes there. This gang has a big foothold in central america, but its not just being discussed in central america. The acting i. C. E. Director came out of Daily Press Briefing here at the white house today to discuss administrations efforts to stop this threat of the ms13 gang here at home and to eliminate its members from the United States. And as he spoke, he showed these photos of the gang members who have tattoos all over their face. You can see that its essentially more ink than skin. Above their eyebrows, cheekbones, and what not. They discussed that with reporters today, and then donald trump is also going to long island tomorrow on a trip to discuss further how to eliminate the ms13 gang. And caitlin, this obviously seems to be an area where the administration feels that they are having some successes and want to bring some attention to their efforts to combat this gang. Reporter yeah, Jeff Sessions and donald trump, one thing they agree on is how to be tougher on crime here at home. And this has been a really big priority for them. Trump was even tweeting as the i. C. E. Director was speaking to reporters today saying he wants to make america safe again. That was one of his slogans during the Campaign Last year. And its something that they definitely agree on. Jeff sessions has said that he think lax border enforcement is what allows the ms13 gang to smuggle more of its members here into the United States. So thats definitely one thing thats been going right for the white house and something they touted as a victory. All right, Caitlin Collins, thank you so much. Lets talk about health care, i know you were here to talk about the president s agenda. Even if not everybody in this white house is eager to talk about it. So, skinny repeal. Yeah. Its kind of just like a way to keep the process going because they cant really agree on a bill. Thats impeerically a little odd. Its kind of a strange way of doing this. Legislating is not exactly a sing along, right. We saw the schoolhouse rock version of it it, but its been so long since weve gone through a regular order of process. What happens is the house passes a version, the Senate Passes a version, there is some kind of a Conference Committee, and a final bill is produced that they both have an opportunity to get a vote on. Yes or no. And i think thats the process that weve got here. Theyre talking about passing something they may not actually want to be the bill, right . Theyre talking about passing something thats just a vehicle to get them to conference. All the way through the product. From a conservative point of view in terms of the mandate. Things they can rightly it go home and say look, this is skinny repeal, its still a repeal of really important stuff that weve talked about here for the last seven years. They get that to conference with the house of representatives, did pass a broader repeal and replace bill. And i think hope for every republican is what you ultimately vote on in the end is an improvement of both products and you get something that ultimately is something the American People will like. Jen, and obviously your point of view is quite different. You were the Communications Director and worked for president obama. You were just saying that they may not go to Conference Committee to the house and senate bill. Speaker ryans spokesperson just said that its just one option going to conference. So what does that mean . Its entirely possible through the legislative process for the senate to pass the skinny repeal for it to go back to the house. Ryan has asked for flexibility for members to be available this weekend, and for trump to sign it. Thats not the intention, clearly, of senator mcconnell or doesnt seem to be. Senate republican whorps on the fence, moderate republicans who are thinking, wait, the skinny repeal may seem a little bit better, this is a bit of a bait and switch potentially for them. And part of the problem with the skinny repeal, i will just say, is that its it doesnt get rid of dramatic medicaid cuts, but outside analysis still has it leaving 15 Million People uninsured. Still jacking up premiums. How many are uninsured because they are no longer required to have insurance . There would be certainly a percentage of them that would be uninsured because they wouldnt choose to buy insurance because, but those are also people who would be left if they got sick, if they had to pay for health insurance, if they go to emergency rooms, theyre jacking up costs for everybody else. Everybodys costs would go up if people only chose to buy insurance when they get sick. Thats part of the problem. Thats why we need the safety net and more people in the system. Well, interesting to hear that jen you thought the problem was without the medicaid cuts. Obviously theyve had a significant improvement from the medicaid standpoint from the viewpoint of a lot of senators here and what theyre ultimately passing does not have the same coverage problems. And jake, you put your finger on it. Most of the numbers are the removal of the individual mandate that forces americans to buy health insurance, theyre not going to buy it. And so, look, this is a system currently that we have where markets are literally collapsing. And we can deal with this now or we can deal with this in october, november, after new premiums come out, after markets collapse and were in like a tarp situation for health insurance. In my view, that is a worst Case Scenario for republicans and democrats frankly because theyve built the system were living with currently. I want to bring up something that will land on the president s desk whether he likes it or not. And thats not health care legislation, but its the new russia sanctions bill. Listen to Anthony Scaramucci talking about how President Trump might actually veto this bill that passed overwhelmingly in the house and senate. He may sign the sanctions exactly the way they are, or he may veto the sanctions and negotiate a even tougher deal against the russians. Is there anyone that actually thinks President Trump would negotiate a tougher deal of sanctions against the russians than the house or senate . I mean, its kind of a no. Staggerings the imagination that anyone would claim that. This passed overwhelmingly with republican and democratic support. If you put new sanctions in place, it doesnt preclude you from additional sanctions. If you think they should be stronger pass and get them through and fight and argue to have more. It doesnt make sense. Talk about the politics, can President Trump politically actually veto a russian sanctions bill . It will be overridden. Its passed so overwhelmingly, people will override it, itll become law and hell just be the guy with all of this russia cloud who vetoed russian sanctions. At this point, you dont have to be a very astute political analysis or operative to say that the first big fight that you pick with Republican Congress should probably not be about russia. I think weve all had enough russia for the first politics 101. Seven months, and look, if this is not perfect for them, i still would figure out a way to get to yes, because its coming either way. And like you said, if theres something more that they want to do, if they want to strengthen is down the line, thats open. Another big story today, jen, the joint chiefs of staff had no idea that this Transgender Service member ban was coming at all. It just seems odd because obviously this was a big decision, you have at least 4,000 or so estimated Transgender Service members and members of the reserves, and what everyone thinks about the idea of paying for the surgery or whatever, this was a very impulsive move by the president. Yes, and the initial policy announcement was not impulsive. It was there was a lot of division in the military over this. It was months and months, if not years of consideration, there was Economic Analysis that was done about the cost, and ultimately, the conclusion was made by the military, not president obama sitting around tweeting in the oval office, that this is something that they could implement and they did have a way to do it because men and women, transgender men and women were serving, and they were courageous, and so it wasnt surprising to see him. I was happy to see dunford do that yesterday. Jen and josh, thanks so much. Appreciate you being here. Long time Democratic Congressional staffer was arrested for trying to flee the country. Tragedy in ohio, what should have been a fun summer outing at the popular state fair turned tragic after a thrill ride broke apart midair, sending several people flying to the ground. One person was killed, two others critically injured. Moments ago the manufacturer of that thrill ride told amusement parks to stop operating that ride and similar ones across the country until further notice. Cnns ryan young is in columbus, ohio, for us, weve just learned that the 18yearold killed had just enlisted in the marines. Reporter yeah, tyler jirell, enlisted last week. Supposed to go to boot camp next year in south carolina. You can understand how his family is feeling a lot of pain right now. There was a lot of people out here who witnessed this who were screaming and watching that video is quite stuff. My grandchildren, my children ride these equipment. Our guys do not rush this stuff. We look at it. We take care of it, and we pretend its our own. Reporter so we know that state inspectors, we just got the paperwork went over this ride four times. Theres over 70 rides out here. Maybe because of the weather, they maybe sped things up, its raining here right now. We were told that did not have any difference here because they went over this ride four times. This one passed. There were four other rides that did not pass, and state investigators are saying, theyre going to do an autopsy on this machine, take it all apart. Theyre looking for people around the country who were experts in this to make sure they can see exactly what happened. They have parts already separated, but they want to make sure how the stresses happened here and how this fell apart. Do we know what went wrong . Is there a suspicion as to what went wrong . Reporter thats a great question. We kept pounding state investigators about this. What they would tell us that they would not give us anymore information about this until they were able to finish their investigation, the governor said he will stand away from this until this investigations over. He said it will be a world class investigation. One other thing though, they have shut down the entire midway, no rides are going on behind us right now. The state fair is still open, but if you look behind us, it is just empty where the midway is, so many people will not be able to ride the rides over the next few days, and we even watched investigators going over rides today as they reinspect them. The state of ohio is osks in charge of regulating, inspecting the rides at the fair. And the question youve already addressed. Did the inspectors did the state do the job to ensure safety before the state fair opened, is this an issue thats come up before . Reporter well, that is another great question. We went through it and saw the 12 pages of documents they released. They had four different investigators going through. Right now theres nothing pointing to a red flag. And thats one of the things that stands out right now. John kasich said, sometimes, accidents happen. And they want to get to the bottom of this one. Jake. Ryan young, thank you so much, appreciate your time. Also national lead, former i. T. Staffer who worked for chair and current florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman schultz, but this week he was nabbed trying to leave the country and fly to pakistan. Now hes facing a bank fraud charge. Tom foreman is watching the story and has the latest for us. Tom, the staffer was previously under another investigation, according to buzzfeed and politico, yet employed by Wasserman Schultzs office until this week, why . Thats a great question. She has answers, well get to that, but it is a great question. You have to think this story is filled with things democrats dont need. Suspected foul play involving computers, money being shifted overseas, and a dramatic arrest at a d. C. Airport as this former congressional staffer tried to board a plane to pakistan. Reporter start on capitol hill where Computer Services for more than a dozen Congressional Democrats used to be the work of this man. Used to because earlier this year, politico and buzzfeed reported he was under scrutiny over suspected theft of equipment. And all of those Congress Members ended his employment, except for former democratic chair Debbie Wasserman schultz. She kept him on and lit into police as part of the investigation. I think youre violating the rules when you conduct your business in that way. And should expect that there will be consequences. Reporter but simultaneously in the d. C. Suburb of alexandria, the fbi says he and his wife had applied for a Home Equity Loan from a federal credit union on this property, according to court documents. The problem, the fbi says they lied on the loan forms about rental income. Fraudulently obtaining 165,000, which the feds say they wired to pakistan. And that takes us to the airport where in march, the fbi says he showed up for a flight to pakistan, along with their three kids, abruptly taken out of school. And with 12,400 in u. S. Cash in her bags. She was allowed to leave and is not charged with anything, but with he tried to follow this week, he was stopped. He has pled not guilty and is free under gps surveillance. His lawyer says, im very confused as to why hes been arrested, hes been a hill staffer since 2004, his only charge is not reporting rental income. But conservative social media is blowing up with unfounded attempts to link him to the leak of dnc emails last year. For those critics, its tantalizing, stealing lawmakers equipment, trying to flee u. S. , wiring money to pakistan, spy novel, no. Its real life, and Debbie Wasserman schultzs office. So weve said she has an explanation for this. Wasserman schultz says she kept him employed because she was worried that he was being unfairly treated for his pakistani heritage. She did drop him shortly after the arrest. It will likely be much harder to get rid of the conspiracy theories that are erupting around this story. Theyve been wanting to prove that russia wasnt doing it, it was a problem on the democratic side. Some of it attached to this. Theres no proof, i. T. Guy, may have had access to things, but theres no proof he did anything with that. Intriguing story. And theft and bank fraud charges. Those are the things that are interesting. Bank fraud is the only charge. Thank you so much. Be sure to follow me on facebook and twitter at jake tapper. Now wolf blitzer is right next door in the situation room. Thanks so much for watching.
