King ranch has always been one of the prominent ranches in the area. They own most of the land between here and mexico. It controlled most of the commerce before the railroads came to town. With all the ranch money that was being made, those men worked with other investors to bring railroads to the area. This opened the door for many tours to come to the area and take part in the beach and activities still enjoyed like people here today. The weather is so mild that Pilot Training can happen yearround. They donated it and it was used as a ship bell on the uss houston.
