Cenk already, were going to talk about alfas sets of Hurricane Sandy and that storm hitting the east coast of the United States now. It is shutting everything down in new york today including other cities including wall street. It has done that tomorrow. Subways, stock market, all closed. So now were going to discuss whether this has something to do with Climate Change, which unfortunately you wont see with a lot of outlets. Well talk about the politics of it in just a minute. First, as i tell you about how the media is not focusing on Climate Change, its amazing because theyre literally getting battered by the storm and still not recognizing it. Im grateful for the cooperation of our state and local officials. Conversations at this point there are no unmet needs. I think everyone is taking this very seriously. He sees a storm and doesnt think how am i going to protect america. No, its how am i going to make a buck of this. This is not the time to privatize. Thats like privatizing the police or fire department. Oh im going to request those people in that storm depending if i make an extra dollar out of it or not. Thats a horrible idea. People on the east coast are living through what serious storm we could have, and could you imagine if mitt romney was in charge . Well it depends you might get rescued if there is an extra buck in it for us. And remember how republicans handled disaster. There will be plenty of opportunities to help later on, but right now the immediate concern is to save lives and get food and medicine to people so we can stabilize the situation. Governor romney believes this is a time for the nations leaders to focus on those americans who are in harms way. If im president you can expect a lot more of these kinds of storms over the next four years because i dont give a dam about Climate Change and the storms they produce. You need that, obviously because were getting more and more severe storms every year, including Hurricane Sandy that is hitting us now. Better be prepared as we learned from hurricane katrina. Not if you listen to the ryanromney budget. We give them every benefit of the doubt on Discretionary Spending for the government. They dont specify, of course, because theyre cowards. They dont say im going to cut this program this program this program. Lets assume they do not cut fema any more than they would cut any other program. What would the fema budget under the ryan plan . Well, it would be about 3. 9 billion. Let me did oh some quick math for you guys. That is 10 billion less from 13. 5 billion to 4 billion. Well, ryan is an extremist. Thats not fair to look at his. Lets look at romneys budget proposals stretching through 2015. What would he cut it down to . Less 1. 8 billion. Its even worse than ryans budget. So if you are interested in getting a proper response through fema to these storms apparently youre not going to get one if ryan and romney get their wishes and desires and cut the hell out of our budget. This is a good time to be doing that. Is that a smart move . And under their watch by the way, of course as i said the Oil Companies pretty much announced romney had a meeting with the Oil Companies and then came out and said my plan is basically the oil company plan, which is to do nothing about Climate Change. It was House Republicans who stood in the way of extended more funds to fema. They said without cuts were not going to extend more funds to fema. The climate is changing rapidly. Weve got a super storm that is right in front of us. Weve got the hurricane coming in off the atlantic. Its met up with a noreaster, and then to flow this thing into epic proportion, were missing 1. 35 million square miles of ice in the arctic. So all the heat in the arctic ocean is thrown up into the atmosphere and the jet stream, as it loops south as far south as well into this hurricane and weve got ourselves a super storm. Hello. The arctic ocean is two degrees warmer. Now that warm air is being thrown up in the atmosphere. The jet stream which is usually a polar jet stream hangs way far north. Since there is so much energy it is now blobbing way far south. It ruined the u. K. Summer and the olympics, and their Food Production and also its really important, the spin machine three weeks ago released some flummery that said the east antarctic is adding so much ice there is no problem. Balls our team down in tazmania the preeminent lab for the antarctic clearly shows that the west antarctic is melting at 180 million tons of ice a day. Thats 500 million tons of ice. What does that all mean . Lets put it in human perspective. The largest living animal right now is the blue whale 125 tons. 11. 5 million blue whales are melting every day. Thats outrageous and its a disgrace. Its a disgraceful practice to put these pork barrel projects on this probations bill. I say to the senator from utah now, if another pork barrel project is not authorized for the olympics games is put on the bill, i will filibuster the bill. That was already there by the time mitt romney arrived. 445 million nbc contract. 450 million in contracts and 59 million from the Utah Legislature all before mitt romney arrived. One more fun critic, a current director of the utah league of cities and towns was on the Salt Lake City committee. Heres what he said at the time. Turned around what . Those are nice cliches when youre running for something. But our mountains were here. The reason we were awarded the bid to host the games were here before he came. They were here after the games. The real credit goes to the community of Salt Lake City, salt lake count county and the state of utah. Cenk bullocks, mitt romney made those mounts. Credit where credit due. Its not to say that mitt romney didnt have a roll in the olympics going better. He admits one of the ways he did that was to get federal money. I did cut an ad with mitt romney because my dealings with him through the olympics he was a good, moderate, reasonable person very detailoriented and he was really great for me to work with on the olympics. But you know, he shared a lot of his positions with me as he did with the massachusetts voters who is prochoice, progay and lesbian rights. I thought wow as a republican he could bring that party that was really becoming right wing, nutty, extreme back to the middle. But look what he has done. He has taken it further to the right than i think it ever has been before. I hate to say this about an old friend, but he has become a real flimflam man in this campaign. Cenk shocking. Now look, what were talking about here is a perfect example rocky. Is there something wrong with taking federal money to to run an olympics . I dont think so. We won the bid for the owe limp picks. But now hes saying federal money, thats not acceptable. Except when it was his advantage he loved it. Thats exactly right. 1. 3 billion went towards transportation projects, rebuilding highways. A lot of things that federal taxpayers paid for. If they looked at what went on here i think they would wonder what business does the federal government have sending all of that money to any olympics venue. Certainly we needed the security. That was a hush issue and it was my primary concern especially after. We all worked really hard together to get to that point. I see such an enormous hypocrisy now with this mitt romney who is more concerned about making sure that the wealthy dont pay their taxes than the needs of this country are really taken care of. Cenk and one more thing about this, you know, as you look at mitt romney from back then through the lens of what you know today about how much he has changed all of his positions, do you think that maybe you were duped that he was not a moderate guy . That he was just telling you what he thought you wanted to hear, what the voters of massachusetts wanted to hear what the Olympic Committee the federal government wanted to hear just to get the success as he defined it at that moment . Certainly, my First Impression wasand that was over a period of a couple of years was that he really was that moderate reasonable person, as was his wife ann romney. Now when i see a man who has been listening to his handlers, but you cant blame it on his handlers. He has chosen to do this. The conclusion that anybody has to drawjust look at his public record. He has been all over the place on so many issues no one really knows if there is a core to this man, and no one knows what he would do if he were to ever win an election. Frankly when you take a look at colin powell you have to wonder if that is an endorsement based on issues, or if he has a slightly different reason to prefer president obama. What reason would that be . I think when you have someone of your own race that youre proud of being president of the United States, i applaud colin for standing with him. Cenk always the race for sununu. This was his analysis of the president. Let me tell what you the big problem with this president is, in my opinion. Hes absolutely lazy and detached from his job. Cenk how is that for shuttle . You know that africanamerican president hes so lazy. Colin powell is endorsing him for his race what, me . I wouldnt say anything. What is the result . They do polls with the associated press. They did polls of explicit and implicit feelings of whites feelings in american. 56 of americans have negative feelings towards africanamerican americans, and look at that, latinos are pulling ahead of africanamericans. Do you think theyre lazy, violent, etc. Sometimes the numbers improve in some categories and regress in other categories. The implicit one is for a quick second show the picture of a white person, black person, latino person and then show you a neutral person and ask you about the neutral person. If you come up with negative comments, and youre shown an africanamerican, it gives a sense of how they feel about africanamericans. Its a fascinating study and its the way that a lot of studies are done. Interesting number. If you think we have gotten past racial feelings in america youre wrong. We didnt. And now the religion of president obama. What are the latest numbers . In 201026 thought he was protestant, which by the way is the correct answer. But unfortunately in the last two years more people think hes muslim up to 18 thinking hes muslim, and then 35 saying, i dont know man hes only president of the United States of america. How the hell do i know what his religion is. When you look at mitt romney, there isnt nearly as much confusion. 67 clearly identify him as mormon, which is exactly what he is. That 26 still say that they dont know. But thats lower than the number for the guy who was president for four years. Where do they get that confusion. Im not sure. About the timing of this act as we get closer to the election is it easier for republicans to throw outlines because who has time to fact check in the last week of the election, lets just throw everything at them. Its ohio, and theyll say whatever they can. Its just shocking what theyve said in toledo, and what theyve said all over on these different issues. Its not just even remotely true. Is the media gun shy about saying, no no, no, those guys are lying all the time. I think the media has been wrong for several years. There is a book, basically saying that while people have said democrats and republicans both engage in tactics in washington that cause the problems that we have, that it was really the republicans. And it really was the reference. For a time i bought the earlier line being statesmanlike both sides this and that. But mcconnell saying our job to beat the president. And some in the congress would not accept, if they seeded a kidney transplant, they would not accept it in president obama offered it unless he gave both of them. Both of these authors said its the republicans and its been their mantra, take back the government, not help the country. And its really pathetic. Were going toi think its going to be a catastrophe if the president is not reelected. As far as what we dont know where mitt romney stands on anything except we know mitt romney wants to be somewhere where George Romney never got. This is a classic psychiatrist who talk about his reasons for running. I think its more terms of analysis and living up to his fathers expectations, and trying to achieve something that his father didnt certainly than it is for political philosophy was he was for obamacare when it was romney care. He was prochoice. He was tolerant on human rights type issues. Then he changed, and then he changed again. Cenk thats not the only way he reminds me of bush.
