And he said the suggestion of collusion is appalling and detestful. He also said that when he recused himself he has not been briefed on any of the russia investigation details since he has recused himself. But there was a line of questioning about his conversations with donald trump and the firing of james comey that he wouldnt answer. There is no appropriateness bucket. Its not a legal standard. Hes well known and wellliked and respected. Its almost dare i say cartoonish, the arguments that this man has to sit there and make a defense. Gerri it was obvious people knew each other well. This is part of a troubling pattern of Trump Administration officials to clam up. The idea that Jeff Sessions was involved in undermining american democracy. But the one cut they opened up on him is executive privilege. He wasnt invoking it. He says i want to protect it in case the president wants to invoke it. Both parties use it. You have got a series of questions here that you could tell they are moving away from the collusion and they now want it to be about they are impeding this investigation. Comey said there were matters with respect to the recusal that were problematic and he couldnt talk about them. What are they . Why dont you tell me. There are none. What was your interpretation. As a lawyer you never ask somebody what somebody else was thinking. I have done investigations my whole career. Until you finish it all. Although i have got to say, sessions did a great job today, no doubt. Gerri a lot of the conversation today centered around why sessions said comey had to go. I want you to hear this sound then comment. When mr. Comey declined the clinton prosecution, that was really a usurpation of the authority of the federal prosecutors in the department of justice it was a stunning development. The f. B. I. Why would he have given any recommendation if President Trump already made a determination. And ultimately congress is the trier of fact. They will weigh his credibility and make a determination.
