Gregg kt macfarland is a fox news analyst. Is he right or wrong . I have known bob gates since we were junior staffers in the 1970s. I think hes absolutely right to say the plan we have, the way we have been quote trying defeat isis is at best containing them. Its not rolling them back, its not retaking territory we have taken. Even if we are succeeding slightly in iraq, we are not doing that in syria. Are there things could you be doing short of a huge presence of Ground Troops inside syria or iraq that would help this goal of what you say is to defeat isis happen more quickly . Anything that we could be doing we are doing. When the president following that up by saying here are the two choices. 200 or 300 glowrnlgd forces and fight another iraq war those are false choices. First all with the hostages, the situation where we are seeing american and japanese hostages take be and beheaded. We are on the defensive about that. Here is what you do. Lea this proposal includes half a trillion in Infrastructure Development over six years financed with this onetime tax of 14 on u. S. Companies their overseas profits. Break this down for us. The federal government is taking more taxes than it ever has and still cant pay for basic things like infrastructure. We can all agree taxes are a necessary evil, we do want roads and bridges despite what the left would say about republicans who are against this plan. The question is where is all this money going . The president had the stimulus package that was supposed to take care of this. But that didnt happen because the money went to rewarding the president s donors and friends. Lea steven, you say crumbling infrastructure has to be fixed but you have to find a way to pay for it. This is not a new tax. There is a 35 tax and repatriation from foreign profit. This is also a bipartisan idea. Rand paul and Barbara Boxer together have this idea of a onetime tax holiday essentially of 14 . And you do need it pore crumbling infrastructure. Katie is wrong saying it went to crony capitalism. It saved jobs when we were on the verge of a depression. Pef week you have a report like last week in cincinnati where i75 collapsed and killed somebody and i35 in new jersey closing down fro two bridges. There is no more important investment than infrastructure. Its the circulatory system that feeds the nations economy. The on reason it becomes a bad idea is when it becomes Barack Obamas because republicans dont like anything barack obama proposes. Infrastructure need work but the money is already available in the federal government. If they would take a look at where they are wasting money and duplicating program. They waste money and programs gig money to people who dont need the money and shouldnt be receiving that money. The government is taking more taxes than it ever has yet they still cant fund or prioritize basics things because we are spending money on things that dont matter. This is a by partisanr and idea. The business communities wants this. They present poatds a onetime tax holiday. The president s budget also includes a cut in the top rate. So look you can get into some philosophical conversation about how Government Works and our government doesnt work. But the bottom line is this is a proposal for the budget. Its a good by part and proposal to fund something thats desperately needed. Lup cans call it envy politics. They attack it immediately republicans call it envy politic. They attack it immediately because it comes out of Barack Obamas mouth. Lea the idea is to reinvest the money into the middle class. Does this trickle down or does it hurt businesses . Businesses dont want this. There is a reason why businesses do business offshore and take their money elsewhere. On the issue of saying the businesses want this, thats absolutely not true and it comes down to how Government Works. They are not spending that money wisely then we cannot prioritize things. And we cant keep throwing around this Word Investment without getting something in return. The definition of an investment is putting manin to something and getting something out of it and we are not seeing that. In terms of barack obama this is a show by barack obama. This is a show by barack obama. Some of his budgets have gotten zero votes by republicans and democrats. For him to say well raise taxes to Fund Structure that should have been funded. There is a 35 tax rate on repatriated profits. Why do they need the money then . Because none of the businesses are bringing it back. They said for to us bring it back we need a lower tax rate. Per met Small Businesses to pool their workers and tax credits for individuals without employer coverage. Are those viable alternatives . Absolutely. They are very viable alternatives and there are other things as well like getting rid of junk lawsuits. They have an enormous impact on the cost of healthcare. The president actually when he was talking about obamacare says that that was a good idea. But then he ran away from it. We should allow individuals to come together and form groups at the state level. What i did when i was governor of new york, we expanded healthcare by creating these individual groups and providing a policy they could afford. There are many, many alternatives we should repeal obamacare but not simply leave it at that. Pass those good alternatives. Reporter the president vowed his law will cover every american. You will see a paris on steroids soon if you dont disrupt the organization and take the fight on the ground. Pete hex is the ceo of concerned veterans of america and fought in the military as well. Pete graham says he could see paris on steroids if isis isnt defeated. Put this into context for us. He is recognizing the longer you let the epicenter of the beating heart of isis the more likely they will continue to send fighters to europe or god forbid the United States. The longer they are simply not defeated. Airstrikes have stopped them from gaining ground but they hold significant amounts of ground and haven in iraq and syria and are looking to expand in other areas. And you have aqap in yemen and you will have an islamic threat manifesting across the world. You talk about the perception of gaining ground but isis has taken around 20,000 square miles in iraq and in syria. Senator graham calling for around 10,000 american troops on the ground. Where did that number come from . That sounds like the force we talked about leaving behind in 2011. I think a lot of us believe if we had been responsible about the way reduced our troops there we would not see the number of threats there. He is talking about forward air controllers, intelligence and special operators. Senator graham is saying it will require American Leadership no matter what. If we want jordan to commit troops and they took a renewed look after the way their pilot was treated. If we want turkey and saudi arabia to send Ground Troops which we need for a coalition, america is going to have to lead and we cannot do so inside the bases. I heard from men on the ground in iraq trying to train the iraqi army. That force is nowhere near capable of taking back key cities in the country. It will take American Leadership and that is what senator graham understand. Pete you and i served in afghanistan and iraq, and senator durbin is saying putting troops in the carnage of syria would be a mistake. We have seen our friends come back badly injured and not at all. Can you respond to his comment . Well there is obviously resist there is a decade Long Investment in blood and treasure in the country. What we would want to do is precisely position them alongside forces who do the mass of the fighting. Whether it is the iraqis or whatever. You have to have absent this American Leadership and that component it isnt that serious to talk about rolling back isis. It isnt serious to talk about defeating isis. Dick durbin what is your plan . What is the counterplan to get at the heart of isis . Airstrikes and leaving troops on the base to train isnt going to get it down. If you are satisfied where they are that is policy issue. But what we are doing now is not enough. We are encouraging others to put their own skin in the game right . That is right. Another reason why American Leadership is important. The perception of the players around the world is the problem of isis is one created by the United States. We took the head off sadam and the world is looking and saying you cannot point and tell us to address the problem. You have to take leadership and stock at the moment. We have a nation that is reported more worried about a military that has seen a decade of conflict. You have to build a strategic approach and i think that is what Lindsay Graham is failing to see from the white house. They said they didnt have a strategy and now it is clear it is airstrikes and training iraqi forces that are not yet capable. It doesnt look like a winning strategy. Thank you, pete for joining us. Thank you. Greg . Just one year until the iowa caucus and the president ial race is heating up. With mitt romney out of the running who is the top con tender in the Hawkeye State . A big bolder slamming into the back of a store in Southern California after part of the earth gave way. The stores owner says he is glad it happened at night when no body was inside. I thought they would come down some day. I didnt know if it would be in my lifetime and well boom. It cracked open i smelled gas, walked out and called the fire department. The bolder broke off a gas meter, leaving a leak and damage to the second story of the building. Hard to believe but we are a year out from the iowa caucus and Governor Scott walker is becoming the one to watch there after leading a crowd of potential republican contenders. The poll was taken before governor mitt romney pulled out of the running and reallocated based on who voters said was there second choice. Governor scott walker telling abc he thinks voters are looking for change. They are so sick and politicians, in both parties particularly in washington who Say Something on the campaign trail but do something else. It doesnt matter what the intimidation factor is we will stand up for the them. Ed rollins is here former Campaign Manager for Ronald Reagan and handled many or since. Strong or weak field for the gop . Strongest field since 1980. Why . We have four or five senators and governors in the race. Several have the ability to raise a lot of money. A threetime governor from new york who may be in the back but that is not a state many republicans win in. Huckabee is great. Walker has won three statewide races in four years. And fighting every Democratic Union activist in the country. There is good candidates. And i think the country wants more than change. They are looking for a leader. The republicans are looking for a winner and the country is looking for a leader. Three or four years ago it was very crowded on the field and there was a new frontrunner it seemed like every time you blinked. Is a crowded field an advantage or disadvantage . I would rather see this thing go on than be done quickly. Just because we have so many outstanding candidates that a lot of win or take all states and a lot of blue states, are winner take all and they could premature. To air it out and let them make their points so we can see what we have as a party is a positive think. It didnt hurt obama to have a tough, knock down race against hillary. Were you surprised it has walker . There was a speech at the recent event in iowa and he is at the top of the list. Does he have what it takes . The polls are a year in advance and you can see it bunched together. I think the critical thing is can you develop a Grassroots Organization in iowa and can you put it together in New Hampshire and South Carolina and can you raise money to go beyond that to places like texas, california and new york. Does an establishment candidate like jeb bush have an advantage especially when it comes to money . He certainly does with money. And with romney out and most republicans are happy. They like romney but happy he is not going to run. My sense is the problem is will be he be the establishment candidate . And they dont necessarily appeal to the wall street types but there is a lot of voters out there that dont want that type. Rand paul and ted cruz are anti antiestablishment. Very strong part is religious and evangelical. We were going to talk about the democratic side of things but is there anything to talk about . If hillary doesnt run there is no body. My sense is he is making the case the run and will be strong and viable. We have to beat her. New concerns the savings millions of americans were expecting to see from obamacare may have been inflated. This as the Gopcontrolled Congress prepares their own alternative to the Affordable Care act. And a shocking end to super bowl 49. Pass is intercepted by malcolm butler. The seahawks choosing to pass the football instead of running it in a like gamewinning touchdown. The Seattle Times and many football fans wondering if this was the worse play call every . Oh yea, thats coming down lets get some rocks, man. Health can change in a minute. So cvs health is changing healthcare. Making it more accessible and affordable with walkin medical care, no appointments needed and most insurance accepted. Minuteclinic. Another innovation from cvs health. Because health is everything. New questions about the alleged savings the Health Care Law was supposed to save us. With billions injected into health care, william, where are the savings . We needed National Health care because of the uninsured people in the system but now the feds are pumping 80 million the deductibles for everyone should go down. The government is helping people pay their bills. Where the are savings . We will look at the pockets of hospitals and Insurance Companies where profits have made them along wall streets best performers. No body thought health Insurance Companies were al alturistic then and now they will not be. They defended their profits. They are complaining now they are only getting 87 cents on the dollar for medicare and medicare patients and provide free medical care for 36 million who are uninsured. Are things going to get better in the big picture, welcome william . Not according the Budget Office saying it will rise through 2022 and obamacare will add 2 trillion, about 50,000 per enrolle but premiums dont go down. Cost are too high and increasing too quickly. This created a burden for employers, employees and their family and taxpayers. Supporters say obamacare slowed the Health Care Inflation by about 1 . The Manhattan Institute said individual premiums went up. The not adding a dime to the deficit isnt so true. Thank you william. Live from los angeles there. Last nights thriller of a super bowl setting a new rating record. Nielsen company says it is up 4 from last year. We should find out the total number of viewers later today. The patriots celebrating after getting the lastminute interception to win it 2824. Tom brady is now in an elite club of quarterbacks who have four super bowl wins. Jim gray is a sports caster and good to see you. The seahawks have the best running back in the game. And pete carol calls a pass. How is that going down in super bowl history . It is going to go down as the worst call. Harvard analytics allowed runs on second third and 4th down within the two lines were dead last in the nfl. Seattle on the other hand was second in the league in power situations. They only got stopped 17 of the time. And lynch converted 1720 times on 3rd and 4th downs. This is a disaster for pete carol. This will live with him forever. Well jim we have a look like at a News Conference in phoenix and we are waiting to see the patriots coach and tom brady speak. Where does this put brady in the nfl quarterbacks . Terry bradshaw and joe montana who have won four, he is up there with them. He beat the record by appearing in the super bowl held by john elway. He holds most of the records for completions and wins and touchdowns. He broke joe montanas record. Thomas edward brady are his initials but i think we could switch it around and make it tbe tbe the best ever. Jim, going back to the call as it will be known, pete carol i understand it is taking responsibility for it and manned up and said my fault my fault. But is he explaining why he made that call . Greg, there will never be any explanation that will make any sense at any time. So it doesnt matter. Yes, he was a standup guy and you have to admire the fact he took the responsibility and questions. He is never going to live this down. He did this nine years ago. If you remember in the rose bowl his team playing texas and he was at usc. Reggie bush was the Heisman Trophy winner and needed 4th and 1. He didnt put him on the field or run the ball. He hasnt learned in nine years. If you have a fan of the seahawks you are scratching your heads and upset with what is going on. There he is. I dont know if you have a monitor there. But roger with the man himself there. Tom brady at News Conference. Lets listen in. This is a great honor. A lot of people are deserving of this award. A lot of individual players played phenomenal. It was a real test for our team. Just an honor to be up here. Any questions . [laughter] tom i know it is relatively early on inthe process, but can you comment where your place is after a 4th super bowl title . I never thought much about that. I am still in the midst of my career. It is a lot of commitment and sacrifice from people that love and support you. The most gratifying thing is to win, celebrate with your teammates and loved ones. And on the other end of this we have been on this two times in the last seven years, being ahead with late in the game and a chance to win and not closing it out. I am glad we had the opportunity to do it. It look a lot of coach talks all week about how it is going to take all 60 minutes. It certainly did. It never broke our will. We were down ten in the 4th quarter and being on the oneyard line with 20 seconds left and the guys never gave up and you fight until the end and great things happen. It was great for our fans and people that support us. Just proud of our accomplishment. Tom just wondering if you can take us through the 4th quarter drives and what you saw that was maybe different from the 3rd quarter. My second question is how much longer can you keep doing this . Well i love doing it so i dont want it to end any time soon. A lot of decisions i make in my life are about how to sustain it. It takes commitment in and of itself. You have to put it in the bank as the coach says. And that is there when you need it. The 4th quarter, you know i thought we did a great job moving the ball. I made a few stupid throws to get our team in a hole. We lost points on the first drive. Gave them a touchdown there to start the 3rd quarter. So that wasnt the way we talked about the game going. But i thought we had a great plan. Coaches worked hard to get us players prepared. We had two great weeks of practice and it paid off. We have had a lot of clutch performers on our team. We dealt with a lot of adversity from the start of the year to the end. It is great to be able to finish it out. Tom, you win three times in four years and then you go ten years without winning, does it give you a greater appreciation of how tough the process is to win one of these things . Absolutely. I was a young kid when we won the first three. I know in 04 after beating the eagles i was like im ready for this to be over. And we had experienced it. And obviously with perspective y gained it is a hard thing to get here and a hard thing to win the game. You are playing against the other best team. You know one play here and one play there all things change and we have been on the other end of that too. So i am proud we got a chance to finish it out. Some guys made huge plays at the end and a phenomenal catch to get to the fiveyard line and lynch had a great run to the one and a half and we came up with the play of the game malcolm did. He has been doing it in practice all season so it was nice to see someone pick it off. After the kansas city game can you imagine you would be here and what did it take to turn the season around . After that particular game i dont think you think that far in advance. We focused on the process of building our team. I think so much of what has made our team special is the discipline, the hard work the situational football and you know coach grinds us pretty hard every day and the expectations are high every day. You cannot go out there run around and break a sweat and think you are doing anything. You have to get the work done and do it the right way. I know we didnt start the year great. But 22 isnt bad all things considered. And i thought we had a lot of belief in one another and great offseason. We went into the games believing we could win and it didnt turn out that way. But, you know, that is life. That is life. And he had a great life. One of the alltime great quarterbacks. Maybe the best every. Four super bowl victories and narrowly got last nights thanks to butler. And he wants to play until he is 75 years old according to his dad. We will pause and take a quick break and back with more of americas newsroom. Dont go away. At ally bank no branches equals great rates. Its a fact. Kind of like mute buttons equal danger. That sound good . Not being on this phone call sounds good. Its not muted. Was that you jason . It was geoffrey it was jason. It couldve been brenda. The president mentioned he is the first president to brew his own beer since george washington. Put that on top of your accomplishment list. And while they enjoyed a cold one she took the time to ask the commander and chief hard hitting questions. See what you think . I am take a sip. Quick game either or. Football or basketball . I am still a basketball guy. But i love football. Offense or defense . Always offense. Wings or chips and gawk . That is tough. I am going with the chips. I am a fanatic about gawk. Hilary clinton or joe biden . Love them both. Good try. Thank you mr. President. Enjoy the game. Savannah enjoy the beer. Finish it before our full interview. It will make it go smoother. Guthrie did ask the president questions on the isis threat and economy during part two of the interview but that aired this morning. The outreach director at Freedom Works and the president and founder of Michael Associates and adjunct professor. Really tough questions. I expected her to ask do you prefer buffalo wings or mini hot dogs . I had no idea what would become of the meeting. But the cozy relationship to the media and the democrats is a threat to our libberertyliberty. We have to hear how beer is made with products grown in Michele Obamas garden. This is a tradition and bill oreilly went after the president with tough questions and katie kuric asked challenging questions as well. I understand there is a history of asking tough questions before the super bowl but this is before the super bowl. There are important issues out there. And i think a lot of americas mind is on the game and today we start the discussion because of the budget introduction. Important items i think the democrats and republicans can latch on. Today starts the hard conversation. Here is an opportunity lost.
