severely beaten at the hands of Michael Brown. And i have got to tell you, greta, if that is confirmed, that could be a game changer in this process. If the grand jury hears that, and i think the grand jury would. Look, you must remember, a Law Enforcement officer can use deadly force if he feels that his life is reasonably in fear of bodily great bodily harm. Can he do that. So we are trying to confirm it. But this could be a game changer in this case, greta. All right. Do you know you have heard anything whether the officer was holy spirit hospitalized that night . Whether he received any medical care . It is my understanding that one of his commanders took him to the hospital and that it has been reported that he suffered a fractured eye as a result of a beating
by Michael Brown. Why would they withhold that information to this date . I mean, because, you know, if thats true, ted, that might have put a little bit of a lid on some of these protests. You know, greta, you have got to wonder what if the heck is going oon in this town . We are getting bits and drabs of information. Some confirmed, some unconfirmed. We had information from the chief of police that this guy, Michael Brown, had never had any contact or the Police Officer did not know of the robbery. Then we find out that the Police Officer did or did not know. There is a great deal of confusion. You you just dont know what to believe. But, again, greta, if that officer received severe injuries as a result of a confrontation with Michael Brown, that is a game changer. All right, ted, we are going to continue to follow

Well, its pretty hot on the streets right now and pretty empty. We are thinking last night as the streets seemed like it was pretty empty that we were going to get through a night without clashes. We did make it just after midnight. Religious leaders trying to get it shut it down. Bottles started sailing over the crowds and kids started running in every direction. Videotape of a saint ann Police Officer who couldnt take the pressure. [bleep] you are going to kill him. Get back. Whats your name, sir . Now, that officer has been removed from duty down here from demonstrations. County police say he has been relieved of active duty and suspended indefinitely. Take a look around here on the the street. As i said, pretty empty. Old fashioned capitalism is taking over. People selling mike brown tshirts. Captain johnson, is he there right now taking photos with. So locals. Just because its empty right now doesnt mean it wont pick up later in the evening. Its awfully hot out herew. A lot of people might be home being more comfortable. Generally when the sun goes down thats when we see people show up. Giving you my gut feeling, the wind is starting to go out of the sales of a lot of people demonstrating out here, still doesnt mean you wont get clashes, greta . Mike, thank you. Even though i havent been in a war zone, i want to say when i came back to this place, i felt like i was in a war zone, because it was so much destruction and everything was ruined. You were here . I was here. I was actually here when it kind of started. I decided to close off around 10 00. I heard that the crowds were moving down here. So we did close up. And we spent about 20 minutes, 30 minutes to stock everything and get ready for the next day. But, there was the next day wouldnt come, i would say. You feared for your life . Oh, yeah. But i made it home about 10 minutes later, and when i got home, my dad was sitting at home, again, watching his place literally almost getting burned to the ground after all was said and done. They came back here on the 17th with backpacks and big boxes in their cars on the street. They grabbed whatever they could. Ran out and threw it in the cars and back in one more time. When is the last time they tried to break in . They actually tried to break in last night. Last night . They tried to break in last night again. Its actually been continuing from sunday the 10th. We have had people trying to break in 8 or 9 times now. Unfortunately they got in twice, but even the fact that we have to repair the stuff that they break every single time like its never going to stop. Did they catch the people that tried to break in last night . They did catch them last night. Do you have them on surveillance . Yeah. I got the police capturing one of the guys. Do you have any sense for whether the people that did this are out of towners or locals . I mean, i think its a good mix of what everything you just said. We also know by talking to the owners that some of them are arming themselves at night and protecting their business because they feel that theyre vulnerable. What we are able to confirm tonight is that there was a very usual statement on the record from the pentagon and the white house that the administration, through the president , had authorized a rescue mission to free a number of american hostages held in syria by isis. The operation involving air and ground forces. But the Mission Failed because the hostages were not at the targeted location. The intelligence value of the video, what we understand, it goes far beyond the identification of the american journalist, james foleyy and stephan. The analysis includes the identification of the executioner, whether he is a known jihadist to the fbi, as well as the date and location where the beheading was carried out. The fact that they were together, possibly in an isis strong hold of roca shows a level of sophistication and coordination. While u. S. Officials say at least two other americans are being held by isis. Including the man in the video and u. S. Aid worker today the state department offered few details. The video and horrifying simplicity carrying multiple messages from isis and objective it. These orange jumpsuits are synonymous with Guantanamo Bay even though the prison clothing was abandoned more than academic indicated ago. And it has said that they will murder more americans. And this seems to me an effort to kind of insulate or inoculate the administration for what may be, unfortunately, the inevitable that more americans are going to die this week. Or as i posted on gretawire is that the president looks like he really cares and he goes off to play golf that he really cares that he is engaged orders this mission which is abject failure. And its not actual bias that lawyers worry about. Its the appearance of it. And what you want to do is you want to do everything you can to have the integrity of the process. It may be grossly unfair to the prosecutor. Grossly unfair. Its just another fight that really sort of poisons the process. And they are not asking him to leave his office. Its just for this particular case lets try to do our best job so that people dont think its rigged. Greta, and thats what he was saying. If he is incapable of doing, this thats not his call. I think this is a stunning breech of security for the United States. This is exactly the sort of thing that should remain completely confidential for 50 years, number one, because it tells people what we try to do. Number two, its an admission of failure. Well, the United States tried again and couldnt do it. Number three whoever relied upon and gave us the tip may be dead already. This is not something do you. Im always hammering the administration for not being transparent. This is a covert operation. Its not supposed to be transparent. Im trying to avoid being as much as a hypocrite sometimes i find myself unfortunately being. I tried not to be. But the thing that disturbs me here is the failed intelligence and what in the world i mean, is our intelligence so bad . Im very hard on the cia director. Is our intelligence that bad that we could show up on a rescue mission and nobody is there. Its happened before. It happened in um have a. We know these things are possible. I think over the years our ability to gather intelligence through the United States and its agents itself has deteriorated markedly. What we need is a vast expansion of our own intelligence gathering capability, not relying on other countries. Do you think this was information about the failed thing was really for political reasons . Is it to make it look like the administration was s. Really engaged in trying to find him . Is that why .
