Could strike japan or north korea. The future of americas military presence in the region is another big concern. A question according to japan. A short time ago the president insisted he will take a hard line toward north korea government. As he says he is ready to go for the summit. President trump ive become very well prepared. I dont have to prepare much. Its about attitude and willingness to get things done. Ive been preparing for the summit for a long time. As has the other side. I think they have been preparing for a long time also. This isnt a question of preparation. Its a question of whether or not people want it to happen. Well know that very quickly. Harris also ready to go, chief White House Correspondent john roberts on the north lawn right now. Take it away, my friend. John harris, good afternoon. Japan has concerns about what might happen in the talks that the president is going to have the kim jong un. You mentioned intermediate missiles. And he wants that addressed and he also want to have addressed the issue of the japanese citizens kidnapped by north korea. You heard the president say and really pushing back against his critics saying he is not prepared and he is saying he is well prepared. Both the United States and north korea have been prepared for this for a long time. Its about attitude and a willingness to get things done. The president is hopeful they could get success in the first meeting. But also suggesting that its going to take a lot more meetings than that. The pside sayin the is a lot of enemies out there. A lot of dislike and hatred between the country. This is not just a photo op. At the minimum its the start of a good relationship. He would like to say it could happen in one meeting but likely it will take more than that. He says they have to denuke that is the word that the president used. If they dont denuclearization the talks are not going anywhere. The president saying he is going to keep the sanctions on until such time as north korea begins to show a commitment toward denuclearization. But for the meantime, and he told us this last friday but reiterating it, he is going to hold off on any more sanctions to see how the talks go. There was a bump earlier today when the president s outside counsel, the chief attorney in the russia investigation Rudy Giuliani traveling in israel suggested that kim jong un came crawling back to the United States, begging to have the summit put back on after the president said in that letter two weeks ago today canceling the summit. Listen to what giuliani said. They were going to nuclear war against us, to defeat us in a nuclear war. He said were not having a summit under the circumstances. Well, kim jong un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it. Which is actually the position you want to put them in. John well, the white house is looking for closely to see what the north korean reaction might be to that. You will remember back on the 29th of april when john bolton the National Security adviser said well, we are thinking about the libyan model for north korean denuclearization. That is what put the whole thing off the rails. I think that north korea is smart enough to know that Rudy Giuliani is the president s outside attorney. He is not a white house official. He doesnt speak for the president. According to one white house official that was just rudy being rudy. But the white house clearly, harris, wants the make sure that nothing happens to derail the summit because they are this close and they really think they could get something done on tuesday, singapore time. Monday in the United States. Harris john roberts, thank you very much. Bring in lee zeldin of new york who sits on the House Foreign Affairs committee. Congressman, welcome. Its great to see you today. Good to see you. Harris lets start if we can the comments by Rudy Giuliani. John gave another example of a previous comment. These are not helpful. Why is that happening . I think as was pointed out rudy being rudy. I believe that it was rhetorical, obviously. That the North Koreans did make a very provoking statement that caused President Trump to cancel the summit. Then north korea changed its tune. That is a good thing. But, you know, you will have people in our country, you know, including someone like the mayor giuliani who may describe it the way he did. Im just happy that the summit is supposedly on track for tuesday and there is a prospect of a denuclearized north korea, possibly peace on the korean peninsula. Thats all good. That is what im focused on. Harris he is the president s attorney. Well see what effect it has, if any at all. It looks like its on track. Lets talk about japan. The relationship between this president and the leader of japan is very solid. I would look like from it would look like from anywhere you sit. They have had so many meetings and they are said to have spoken up to 30 times in recent months since the president has been in office. What do you make of the importance, the significance of that relationship to what is about to happen with the summit . Its been huge. The president s relationship with japan, with south korea, the relationship he has built even with the chinese leadership. All throughout that region you have had countries, both large and small, who have, they have played important roles in if you look back august of 2017. Unanimous u. N. Security Council Resolution is passed that even china and russia voted for, effectively cutting off over onethird of North Koreans exports. So the president s first year in office was really important for not only showing kim jong un we have a military option that is real, but building up relationships with leaders in the region so that we have the maximum effectiveness on the multilateral diplomacy. And the economic pressure that was ramped up with as we saw the support of even the chinese. So the president building that relationship. Not just with the japanese leader but throughout the region i think has been important to get where we are today. Harris sitting on the House Foreign Affairs committee i would imagine you are uniquely perminged to look at japan perched to look at japan in particular and say what influence do they have . The reports have shinzo abe asking our president potentially today to help out with japanese citizens who have been taken by the north korean government. They say 15 to 17. Some organizations say its in the hundreds. What do they want us to do . How are they playing a role in the summit asking for things like that . Well, for one, where our interests are very much overlapped, where the United States is fighting for american interests in our talks with north korea, fighting to denuclearize north korea, for there to be peace on the korean peninsula. These are demands that are being made by donald trump and by the United States of america that directly benefit japan. Now japan has other asks that may be more specific for japan. Maybe it is in americas best interest to be able to help japan with some of their asks. Especially i mean i have seen reports of how many people North Koreans imprisoned. That they cant afford to hold on to all the political prisoners. I think it would be in North Koreans best interest if donald trump chose to, if he decided it was in the best interest of america to make asking for some of the other countries and for america it builds good will with nations like japan. Its a reasonable request by the japanese. Its not our top priority obously but one that might end up becoming part of the summit but i defer to the white house. Harris interesting. Im sure the world is watching. As part of the deal, even before the president agreed, yeah, this is on. Well sit down. He brought three americans home. I guess if you have people that are imprisoned in north korea you are probably looking for President Trump to say he was successful in this time times three. Maybe he can help out. Lets move on. The president is sounding off on a Bombshell Senate report alleging the Obama White House secretly granted iran access to the u. S. Financial system after the 2015 nuclear deal was struck. That report claims that is a violation of the u. S. Sanctions. That they misled the American People about this. The president tweeted the Obama Administration is accused of giving iran secret access to the Financial Access to the United States. This is totally illegal. Perhaps we could get the 13 angry democrats to divert some of their energy to this matter, as comey would call it. Investigate your response . Consequences of barack obama, his administration, john kerry and others trying to pursue the nuclear deal the way they did, for one, they arent in the white house anymore. They are not the Foreign Policy and the iran policy is one that clearly to American Public in the best interest of our country. Before, during, after the negotiations we saw some bad negotiating tactics used. A look of transparency with the person public. So for example, red lines get crossed. Maybe barack obama cared about dates that the iranians didnt. We said the sanctions would be phased in overtime with the compliance and immediate no suspension. We said wed gain access to the military sites and the iranians said before, during and after youll have no access. Fastforward to what we are learning today. We were misled. Congress and the American Public were misled on this and others. They were not supposed to have access to the financial markets. When they detained the navy sailors, john kerrys response was thank you. We paid ransom on the palette of cash to get the hostages back. This is n new to be misled but another thing to add to the list as evidence tt before, during and after the negotiation that america got played. When barack obama got played, all of us got played as a result. Harris you mention john kerry, the former secretary of state. He acknowledged some of the money that was given to iran might be used for terrorism in one way, shape or another. Also gasoline on the fire. Thank you, congressman. Good to have you today. Thank you. Harris the department of Homeland Security release new statistics at arrests at the border. They are up for the third month in a row. In the month of may, u. S. Border agents arrested 50,000 migrants accused of trying to enter the country illegally. William la jeunesse is on the story from los angeles. William . The president s effort to shut the down or illegal immigration is a work in progress. Why . Most of those caught in may were on the way before the campaign to process all adults and separate women and children. But they were still up 300 over last year. With more fleeing poverty, violence in Central America and mexico. The demographic is shifting some, though, as moving out of the Rio Grande Valley. This area because of the look of infrastructure, because of the needed resources this is a prime location for the transnational organizations to bring people to, to try to cross the border. So the biggest increase in apprehensions, families of 400 inaccompanied children are up 300 . Led by mexico and guatemala. The administration has ruling to require it to release unaccompanied children after three weeks in country. And the asylum loophole. The administration wants to hold or process everyone as a deterrent. What were focused on is making sure there is a consequence for illegal actions. If you cross the border illegally, the attorney general, secretary nielsen made it clear they expect no category exempt for that act. For perspective, the may apprehensions are up 5 over april. What is different, last year the apprehension fell to alltime low and the numbers look dra it mattic. They may level out. Next month should tell us something because seasonal changes in the immigration patterns. Harris that is an interesting point. You go to a base low and come back anything against that looks like a jump in increase. Quickly, do you know which part of the border are more porous for this happening right now . Is that obvious . Well, the Rio Grande Valley remains number one. 40 of all apprehensions are there. But the numbers are going up in san diego, yuma, el paso and did i say san diego . Harris you did. Tucson. You are right. This is spread out is one thing they are saying. Back to you. Harris thank you very much. Great to get the report. Growing pressure on Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein after the Justice Department responds to calls for him to recuse himself from Robert Muellers special investigation. Now one powerful republican says the d. O. J. Response is not enough. What is needed . Well talk about it. And at least one prominent democrat is up in arms over the d. O. J. s plans to brief congress again on an informant. That was inside the Trump Campaign the Unanswered Questions and why the democrats are opposed to the transparency. Its a question. Well talk about it, too. Hais not always easy. Severe plaque psoriasis its a longdistance run and you have the determination to keep going. Harris fox news alert. New reaction to a Justice Department offer to hold a second briefing for a Bipartisan Group of top lawmakers on classified intelligence information related to the russia investigation. You may recall d. O. J. And f. B. I. Officials briefed congressional leaders on this issue just last month. Following requests from two top house republicans. Chief intelligence correspondent Catherine Herridge is live in d. C. With details. Thanks, harris. The records focus on the f. B. I. s alleged use of a confidential human source contacting Trump Campaign aides at the height of the 2016 president ial election. A short tim ago the house eaker paul ryan responded to questions from fox news about the latest Justice Department offer which will not make records available to lawmakers until early next week. We received an oral briefing two weeks ago. But what we are asking for and what we are require and we expect is the corroborating documents that back up the oral briefing. And last night they could have brought it to us today and they chose to do it next week. That doesnt help. Late last night after midnight a Justice Department official told reporters about the latest offer to brief and confirm that the brief session the records were in the room, but not read by lawmakers. The department and the f. B. I. Are prepared to brief members on certain questions specifically raised by the speaker and other members. The department will also provide the documents that were available for review. This is the key section. But not inspected by the members at the previous briefing along with additional material. This morning the speaker said the Justice Department can end the backandforth. Frankly, the sooner the department of justice complies with all of our document requests, which are legitimate document requests, the better this is going to be for everybody. And had they complied with these document requests earlier when we made them, we could have spared the drama. Three sources said the Justice Department offered to make the documents available this morning to chairman nunes and chairman gowdy but at the last minute the timeline shifted again adding the intelligence is not so sensitive it should be limited to the gang of eight. Harris thank you. Lets get to Louie Gohmert of texas. This feels like funny business. What is happening with this . It sounds like funny business because its ridiculous. These are games being played by some of the mueller cartel at the d. O. J. As long as we have a special counsel who will not confess to his limits this a problem. As long as we have republicans in the leadership positions who think its okay to have orwellian spies, spy on president ial campaigns of one party then we have bigger problems than just the briefing. I dont know what was said in the previous briefing and i dont know what was in the documents but my understanding is the people who showed up, filibustered for most of the hours talking and they left no time to review the documents. Its not like the people who went did not want to review the documents. They just came in and made sure they didnt have time to review the documents and will come back later. This is outrageous. You dont even have to have the f. B. I. Officials or the d. O. J. Officials there to do the briefing. Just provide the dag g. M. Document the dadgum documents and let people read them. The more they obfuscate and delay the more it tells any sensible problem there are massive problems with the whole russia investigation with mueller and rosenstein and weissman and comey. That is why we need a Second Special counsel that will dig and show mueller for what i mean this is criminal cartel. Harris you called muellers group, investigation a quat a cartel. Why . Is that fair . Look. You bet it is. Every time we have had a special counsel they went, whether it was democrat controlled or inspired or republican, they come in and they want to go out of the way to make sure that people working on the team do not even have the appearance of having a bias. What did mueller do . He intentionally went for people that hated republicans, hated trump and wanted to bring trump down. Harris the pushback has been he went for people he thought could do the job. Its worse than that. He went for people like weisman and others who worked with him on the russia investigation when they were trying to illegally get uranium. So it sounds like to me they have got a little bit of a c. Y. A. Situation here. Not only going after republicans like trump but also trying to diminish anybody that could come in and look at their malfeasances. Harris no one can miss your passion on issues. This is outrageous. Harris i interview you enough to know the difference between the passion and where you are angry. I sense there is a difference here. I wonder what equals justice in this case in your eyes. You cant force them to give up something apparently that they dont want to give up at the d. O. J. In their time. We do. We can. Its real easy. If we get enough gumption. We dont have the power a judge does but we have the power to say you know what . You have not been fair to produce things that are harris these are fellow republicans. What do you say to them . I know. When you have the russians that think it is okay to spy on their president ial campaign that they didnt support really whole hog, then that is a major problem. And we have republicans that feel that way. But this isnt just for us. This isnt just for this generation. But the precedence that has been set by the obama d. O. J. I mean, harris, we are talking about complete transition from a selfgoverning society to one where the deep state controls no matter who is the president. Thats why we are doing now is so very important. Harris i wonder, congressman, as the American People look at this if they dont see a weakening of the institutions there to protect us. That is a risk that you run when you have leaks and these type of battles. Particularly, those over information that eventually i guess they will release, just with delay after delay. Congressman, we will bring you back. Its great to talk with you today. Its a danger when you have somebody have mueller that grabs people they dont like and tries to find a crime. Its a problem. Harris thank you, sir. Thank you, harris. Harris good to have you. Meanwhile growing pressure on Deputy Attorney general Rod Rosenstein to recuse himself from overseeing the special counsel Robert Muellers investigation. This picked up steam when the g. O. P. Senator Lindsey Graham wrote a letter asking if rosensteins recommendation to fire james comey makes him a witness in a potential obstruction of justice probe involving President Trump . And whether he should then recuse himself from the matter . The Justice Department responded this way. The Deputy Attorney general would recuse from all or part of any matter if recusal were deemed appropriate by Department Officials who are informed about the matter. Otherwise he has a responsibility to fulfill his oath to well and faithfully execute the duties of his office. That response not sitting well with Lindsey Graham. The senator repeated his concerns with rosenstein. Watch. Im really curious to how rosenstein could be involved in overseeing an investigation if he is a witness. Harris fox news senior judicial analyst judge napolitano. On this very news set we said last week i wonder if recusal will be next. Well, recusal will be warranted. By recusal we mean Rod Rosenstein no longer manages the case. And bob mueller would have another boss. That is problematic who it would be. Well get to that in a minute. Recusal is warranted if the d. O. J. Ethics team decide. He is basically saying ill let them decide. When is it warranted . When you are a witness and running the information, you cant be both. You have to be one or the other. Harris ask you a quick question and well move on. Is this the same total or in part ethics team that looked at Jeff Sessions recusal . Yes. I dont know if its the same human beings but its the same office. Harris we have seen it before. Senator grahams argument on the face makes sense. Rod rosenstein signed the memo to the president setting forth the reasons that would justify firing james comey. He participated in conversations with the president. Bob mueller is suggesting part of what the president s reasons were was to punish comey for not stopping the russian investigation. Alleged allegation. Im not saying this happened. And that motivation was obstruction of justice. So therefore we need the testimony of Rod Rosenstein to say why was James Comey Fired . Was he fired because the president feared the russia investigation . This is at a time before mueller was in office. Harris sure. Or fired because the president just wanted, didnt like the way he handled the Hillary Clinton investigation . Harris some people say the firing triggered the second i mean the special counsel. So bob mueller has a choice. Do i want Rod Rosenstein to be my boss or want him to be my witness . If i want him to be my boss, i have another witness who was there at all the meetings and who participated in the drafting or at least signed harris who was that . Jeff sessions. Harris but he is already recused. So he may very well rather than trigger two recusals use Jeff Sessions as the witness in the James Comey Firing escapade. Harris Robert Mueller said that he wouldnt and correct me if i misunderstood what he said. He wouldnt move to charge this president. Did i misunderstand that . No. You understood his principal mouthpiece saying that. That is what Rudy Giuliani has said. But you never heard that from bob mueller. Harris that is what he said he was told. Unlike ken starr on television once a week when he investigated white water, Robert Mueller never said a peep to the public. Harris do you doubt that is the case . I doubt it because of the depth of the level of the investigation. Harris the reason i ask we are going around and around and it seems like bob mueller retains his power. I wonder how it happens but you are saying a, we dont know what he has. B . We wont know what he has until he says im not indicting anybody, here is what i found or here are the indictment and i will try the cases. He doesnt have to show his cards. Contrary to my dear friend congressman gohmert. He doesnt have to show documents in the middle of the investigation. He has privilege to keep it secret until the investigation is over. I saw you shaking your head as i talked to the congressman. I appreciate your time. Thank you. Harris House Speaker paul ryan trying to calm a growing civil war on the ranks of the republicans. House republicans are holding a meeting as some moderates are looking to force debate on several immigration bills. Could a bill be struck to satisfy conservatives and the moderate lawmakers . The new rx 350l with three rows for seven passengers. Experience amazing at your lexus dealer. Harris growing tugofwar between the moderate and the conservative house members. There was a twohour immigration meeting. Moderates and some democrats working to get support for what they call a discharge petition to force a debate on a series of immigration bills. House Speaker Paul Ryan trying to discourage backers of the effort. Mike emanuel is live on capitol hill to break it down. Mike good afternoon. There is intense pressure of the republicans working to work with democrats to address the immigration. They had a big Conference Meeting to see if they come one a consensus g. O. P. Plan. There are 215 signatures on what is known as a discharge petition signed by the democrats and the moderate republicans just shy of the 218 they need. The chairman of the house Homeland Security committee thinks speaker ryan convinced the members to hold off. I believe that that was pretty loud and clear that that will be not go forward. The discharge petition actually did put pressure to get us where we are today to have this conference to move forward but i dont think there is any will in the conference to move forward. Some key conservatives are stressedded about how to handle the socalled dreamers and a path to citizenship. Its always like the republicans have to come one a solution. The democrats havent put out any bills or on paper or any policy. They just say, no, no, no. They said no to the goodlatte and then democrats they said no so what are they yes on . Mike Top Democrats are wondering what the g. O. P. Might offer. This morning the republicans meet on immigration. Lord knows what will come out with that. Hopefully lord knows. We have been praying very hard on it. For too long young dreamers across the country have been stuck under a cloud of fear and uncertainty. Mike adding to the pressure the entire house is up for reelection in five months. Just another complication when dealing with an issue that brings out so much passion. Harris thank you very much. For more on this lets bring in a lawmaker who actually was at todays meeting. Republican congressman kevin yoder of kansas. Chairman of the Homeland Security appropriations sub committee. Its great to see you today. Do we know what the president wants in all of this . I think the president wants what he committed in the campaign to secure the border. He has pledged his support behind border wall. And he has committed to finding a permanent solution for children brought to the country through no fault of their own. The daca children. He supported a solution for that. I think the president put a good compromise on the table to solve both issues. This is Getting Congress to the point. Harris you were at the meeting. Two hours today. You talk about this. We lay out what the man who has the sign it wants so what was the information what was can conversation like . Its productive. Sometimes we go in the meeting and there are verbal blows and people are not agreeing. I thought we made progress today. You have the conservative members of the republican conference and more moderate members coming together and talk about the Core Principles we need to pass. The American People are counting on the Republican Congress to solve this issue. Our border has been vulnerable to trafficking for too long. The whole point of this is we need to secure the southwest border in particular and keep the American People safe. I was in the Rio Grande Valley a few days ago and i viewed the challenges we faced. Harris we had a report where the numbers are up. They went to the lowest we vene in quite some time recent we have seen in quite some time so the tickup is better than a year ago but its on the increase. I want to ask about the discharge petition and what you think will happen moving fart. I dont know that the discharge petition is going forward. I think we have to see what happens at the end of the day. I think today is the deadline. The progress today where people is working together. Everybody is negotiating in good faith. We want a good solution to the immigration challenge in the country. We dont want a nancy pelosi, democratled amnesty proposal that doesnt solve the underlying problem. The reason there are millions of children here that came here to the country is because we have a broken immigration system. This is a symptom of the problem. We dont have a secure southern border. That is what we have to fix in any bill going forward. Harris congressman, representative of virginia said democrats are standing in the way of this. They are not bringing to the table ideas but they are saying no. You have to Work Together quickly on how you come together. Well, i think the majority of americans want to see us secure the southern border and protect the American People. I think the majority of americans want to see us come up with a solution for children brought to the country. We can do both of that in a bill. It will require bipartisan. It will need 60 votes in the senate. The idea you ram through something that only republicans support, that wont happen. Harris you cant. The reality is something will come to the president s desk with the republican and democratic support. And i think its important we get it done this summer. Its making process. Harris it may have some amnesty in it. Maybe not total. Maybe there is a compromise. Congressman yoder, thank you. Thank you for having me. Harris Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer claim democrats are in a position to take back control of the congress. What are the chances of that happening . The rnc chairman is here, Ronna Mcdaniel. Harris democrats face a brutal electoral map in the midterm elections defending ten seats that President Trump won. Yet, they seem to be gaining confidence about retaking the majority in the senate. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer says he sees republicans vulnerable in several races telling politico, when you look race by race we have a very good chance. We are much, much closer than people would ever think. Joining me now is rnc chair Ronna Mcdaniel. Its great to have you on the program. How can people look at it so differently . What does Chuck Schumer see about a potential blue wave in the senate . Well, i think Chuck Schumer is trying to fundraise so he has to project optimism but the map favors republicans. There are ten states where President Trump won and democratic incumbent. Some states he won by over 40 points. We so have put the best ground game in place at the r. N. C. That we ever had going in a midterm. Im optimistic we will keep the senate and that we will expand and pick up seats this november. Harris he is pointing to dean hellers vulnerability and the republicans are pointing to four particularly vulnerable democrats in blood red states. So one against four. Again, not sure how you look at the odds and come out on top. Your thoughts . Yeah, look at this past tuesday. Democrats were counting on california to usher in this blue wave which became a ripple when more republicans turned out in the battleground house seats they were looking at. You look at the senate side, look at bob menendez, a senator in new jersey who only got 62 f the vote against a totally unfunded democrat challenger. There are opportunities across the map. Here is why republicans are seeing an uptick in the enthusiasm and in our voters engaging in this election. They are seeing results. Unemployment record low and wages are up. People are feeling good about the economy. They know the democrats for the past year and a half sat on their hands in the biggest temper tantrum in history because they refuse to accept that trump is the president. They said we are not going to work with him on anything. No, no, no. Resist, resist, resist. Obstruct, obstruct, obstruct. What they have done is resisted more jobs. They have resisted higher wages and they have resisted helping average, working class American Families that are now seeing the benefit of deregulation, tax cuts. They attribute that to republicans. Thats why i think we are even in a better position to expand our majority in november. Harris its interesting that you point to the economy. One of the questions i have been asking democrats about you know there is a gap. We have more jobs than people for them. Democrats could come forward with skillsbased ideas to close the gap. That is interesting. Lets move on and talk democrat senator joe manchin in West Virginia. He says he regrets now backing Hillary Clinton and he is looking at trump for 2020 if that is the man who gets the job done. He agrees with the policies then joe manchin will back him. He does vote with the president 60 of time. What is happening . Is he about to join the Republican Party . Oh, my goodness. Joe manchin is obviously concerned about his race. To be flipflopping on his support for Hillary Clinton. We have it on the record. Go look of the our g. O. P. Website or our twitter account. Time after time after time. Joe manchin on video saying he supported Hillary Clinton and he trusted her and bill and hillary were his good friends. Now suddenly his seat is in jeopardy and President Trump is wildly popular in West Virginia, he is embracing President Trump. Harris will it help him . The voters of West Virginia are so smart. Dont fall for it. Joe manchin may be a nice guy. Have him over for a barbecue. Do not send him back to the senate. He will vote for Chuck Schumer to be the leader and Chuck Schumer is not your friend. Harris and Ronna Mcdaniel speaking candidly to joe manchin. Great to see you today. We appreciate your time. Thank you for having me, harris. Harris abby. Now just minutes absolutely. We are minutes away from the press conference with President Trump and japans Prime Minister. Stay with us. A dana hi, everyone im dana perino. Big show today as we are waiting for a News Conference with President Trump and japans Prime Minister. A lot to talk about ahead of the president s meeting with the g7. And then kim jong un. Plus, it will be her first time on the the daily briefing. Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren. She will join us in a few minutes with senator cory gardner. They have a bipartisan bill involving marijuana. I will ask them about todays hot topic. Join us at the top of the hour. Harris we are just minutes away from the joint News Conference president between trump and the japanese Prime Minister as the north korean summit is now coming in to full view. Bring in the power panel. Mike fuchs, served as assistant secretary of state for the east asian and Pacific Affairs with the Obama Administration. Harry kazianas, center for national interest. Gentlemen, its great to see you. Harry, i want to start with where we are now with how many times the men have met the president and the japanese Prime Minister and the significance of what japan thinks they can get in terms of a deal ahead of the summit. Its a bromance. Shinzo abe was the first foreign leader to come see President Trump after he was elected. The japanese considers the u. S. Alliance pivotal for them. The reason is obvious. In the United States we are very worried about north korea. But for us we are only facing down maybe five or six icbms. The japanese face hundreds of missiles that could be armed with chemical weapons, biological weapons and nukes. So, shinzo abe is really trying to speak to President Trump to hold firm when he goes to the summit. I think abe wants to see a nuclear deal or to be honest abe might not want trump to go. So this is going to be a pivotal conversation and meeting. Harris michael, im seeing that abe may want the Pressure Campaign to continue. And for there to be more toughness in the relationship. Yeah. Absolutely. Look, i mean the u. S. Japan alliance is an essential part of the regional stability in the asia pacific. And from day one, Prime Minister abe has been doing Everything Possible to build a personal relationship with President Trump flying straight to the trump tower after the election as harry mentioned. Unfortunately to date, that attempt has not seemed to pay off much. President trump time and again has really angered the japanese. Both through the tariffs that he has imposed that are going to hit japan. The surprise summit announcement with kim jong un throwing out the maximum Pressure Campaign and pivoting toward diplomacy which took Prime Minister abe by surprise. Harris right. As well as scrapping the iran deal which also could threaten japan with sanctions. There are real fears here on the japan side. Harris harry, last word. They are in a working lunch. We will see them pop up soon with a News Conference. What happened today do you think behind closed doors . I think japanese Prime Minister abe is going to say to President Trump please, mr. President , do not go to singapore unless you can get a nuclear deal first. There is a lot of fear on the japanese side if President Trump shakes kim jong uns hand without any sort of agreement it would be a historic mistake. I think abe will press the president carefully. Harris dont you think the president knows that, though . I think to a certain extent but there is a lot of angst in japan that the president could give something away to the North Koreans. This is a big concession to go to singapore and not get a deal. I think the Prime Minister will press him. Harris gentlemen, thank you. To the viewers, well be right back. George woke up in pain.
