The city had hoped to funnel most of the demonstrators here to fdr park, which is just across broad street from the center. They have misters here and free water and medical tests, but its not very crowded here in fdr park. One of the reasons, they think, is because maybe dont want to have to deal with all of this fencing that divides them from the convention site. And in fact, the biggest march we saw today, shep, was about four miles up broad street in center city. Thats where that probernie demonstration took place. They were marching from city hall, to independence also and supporting clean energy, among other causes. The city said its hoping to avoid a repeat of the last convention here in philadelphia, back in 2000, the rnc, when they arrested more than 400 demonstrators. The key to this whole thing is, is just to rye to show some love and try to show some some understanding. People are angry, people are hurting, people are fearful. And we need to put the country back on track, but we cant put it back on track with divisiveness and marginalization. We have to include everyone. And thats our message here when it comes to protesters, delegates, citizens, elected officials. We need to come together and unify in a way to make this country move forward. Reporter and shep, theyre asking those demonstrators to get permits. Some of them did, some of them didnt. Whether they respect those permits or not is a different story.
