He never stopped trying to find ways to work with people, even if they had been opponents. That tireless work to bridge divide was one of the things that most impressed me about this great man. He got excited about this. We couldnt figure out why. He explained when he was in prison in hanoi, he spent two years in solitary confinement with time on his hands. His cell mate on the other side of the wall had been required to memorize poems in school. They developed, all the pows, the tap code to communicate. I think washington in general is out of the mood that we should be promoting a lot of democracy and human rights around the world. Yet i think we really abandoned those principles at our peril. Look, you can sympathize with mr. Davis for having someone like cohen was his client. Cohen has a thin grasp of the truth. Who knows what he told davis in time one versus now. Cohen is a bag man. He is a guy that pays off women with hush money. Now what cohen is trying to do and maybe he lied to his own attorney. Its not uncommon. Hes trying to exaggerate his importance to prosecutors thinking that he will cooperate and get a lower sentence. Mr. Cohen has contradicted himself in public. Im not sure we can believe what hes saying. Dana you run the risk if you take your case outside of the courtroom and youre going to take it to the court of Public Opinion on television, you run the risk. Do you think it would be better for Michael Cohen if he and lanny davis stepped back and stopped giving so many interviews . I agree. What cohen is trying to do, i guessing with davis, trying to use the public forum to pressure trump, to pressure the prosecutors, to win a better deal for himself now that hes pled guilty. The better thing for him is to clam up and stop trying to manipulate Public Opinion of the press. Because hes contradicting himself, which makes him look like a liar. Dana especially when your lawyer has to walk it back. That doesnt make anybody look good. Can i ask you another question . Listen to Alan Dershowitz on fox and friends this morning talking about the Mueller Investigation and President Trump and the separate Michael Cohen investigation by the Southern District of new york. Watch. His presidency and his businesses are in the Southern District of new york. Not with mueller. Remember, the Mueller Investigation all involves issues that have constitutional defenses. The problem is with the Southern District, theres no constitutional defenses. These are business investigations. Of course, the president cant be indicted. His businesses can be indicted. I wonder what you think about Alan Dershowitzs concern for the president saying the Mueller Investigation, not as big a deal or worrisome out of the Southern District of new york. Would you agree . How would you explain that . Alan is the master of inside and outside the courtroom. I dont want to disagree with him. I agree with him. The real threat to trump now is coming from new york, not washington. If you look at the course of muellers investigation, the manafort conviction, which is a great victory for mueller, doesnt involve trump, russia and the 2016 election. Looks like mueller is focusing on obstruction of justice right now, whether firing james comey was obstruction. In new york, you have, if cohen is telling the truth, you have evidence that President Trump might have conspired with cohen to violate the Campaign Finance rules. I will disagree with alan on this point. Theres one defense that trump can make. He cant be while hes president indicted of a crime. The constitutional solution of a bad acting president is impeachment followed by prosecution, this goes back to what we talked about before, dana. The real solution for President Trump, i think, is to testify under oath in public with mueller about what he did in both cases. With cohen and trying to hide the hush money and with mueller about whether he fired james comey to obstruct justice, he can end what was once called the National Nightmare were going through with these investigations by telling the truth about what he was doing. You have to realize, arizona is something of Political Center of the antitrump republican movement. Theyve been elected to office by tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions of people and theyre accountable to them. Many women have candidates of color have made their way up the ledder. Theyre poised to be super delegates and now they wont be. First, this is not disenfranchisement. The super delegates its a strong argument. Super delegates are less than pledged delegates. 63 of super delegates are white. When you talk about women and people of color, its the pledged delegates that are more diverse. Number 3, lets be clear, the super delegates can still endorse, campaign publicly, still counted on official tallies. If a campaign has 50 of the pledged delegates, they will vote anyway. Lastly, its not a threeyear battle. It occurred in 2008 and for years as well. Someone a part of that campaign, this is about moving forward for 2020.
