Attributed to him, was it before or during the incident . Thats a twopart question. The question was, are we aware of any other intended targets . I can tell you that we are continuing to pore threw voluminous amounts of visual media as well as interviews and other investigatic techniques. At this time there was nothing to suggest there was any other target other than the pulse nightclub. The second part, sir . With respect to the facebook page, that digital analysis is ongoing and i dont have the answer to that question. Im sorry. He was not the target . What im telling you is through the review weve done of all the evidence thus far, this was the intended point of attack for that evening. No other targets. [ inaudible question ] the question was were any other firearms fired inside besides the shooter and the police. To my knowledge, no, not at this time, i maniy a am not aware of. [ inaudible question ] i cant share that with you at this time. I can tell you that right now as we speak, there are no impending charges and i will defer to the United States attorney to comment on that. But i will tell you that i gave you a commitment when i stood before you the very first day that this happened. We will leave no stone unturned. What that means is, at the end of all of our interviews, however long that takes, if someone is able to be charged in this investigation, we will bring them to justice. Were you made aware that they were there in april kassig tcai bar . I dont have any information regarding those allegations. What did you tell us about the phone calls he is reported to have been made while he was inside while the shooting was in progress . Unfortunately, because they are subject to the investigation, they are a matter of federal evidence. I can confirm there were phone calls made. We have them. We continue to review them and analyze them, not just in content but where they came from, where they originated from or where with the calls were terminated. Other than that, nothing further to comment. [ inaudible question ] im sure there are but im not aware of any at this time. There are reports he had patronized some gay clubs in. Orlando. Is that credible . Some witnesses have said that . I dont have any knowledge of him patronizing any other clubs than this one. Sir, are you saying that if you were alerted about the casing of this [ inaudible ] maam, thats an openended question. When we are giving leads for potential terrorist information, they have to meet a certain set of criteria before we can initiate an investigation. Thats based on the totality of the circumstance at that time. Its kind of a nebulous question at this point. [ inaudible ] i will tell you that were looking at everything and i cant say whether it is specifically looking to the casing. We are looking at everything he did leading up to this attack, and as the director pointed out, we are going backwards as well to look at all of the things we knew about before and things that weve investigated in the past. This is an investigation that has an no finite end at this particular time. That goes for the beginning. Were going to go back even further than we did, if thats possible. Are you still ruling out the possibility of [ inaudible ] the investigation is ongoing at this time but the deceased subject is the main subject of this investigation. We are continuing to do interview to see if there is anybody thats associated, whether involved in the planning or execution of this act, they will be brought to justice if and when we identify someone. [ inaudible question ] thats not something i can confirm for you at this time. Can you say whether there were or were not explosives found at this club . S. She just asked that. The crime scene as i mentioned earlier is still being processed and it would be premature for me to comment on that at this time. Have you interviewed the father . I dont have any information on that. Im sorry. That was done down in the Miami Division and i dont have that information. Can you tell us the timeline between the first gunshots and the second i cant comment on that. How many hours . Any other questions . [ inaudible question ] cant comment on that at this time. Excuse me . [ inaudible question ] thats something were still attempting to determine during the course of the investigation. Again because the crime scene has not been released and all of our interviews have not been completed i cant comment on that at this time. [ inaudible question ] heres what i would say about that. This was an act of violence born out of hate that inflicted terror on an entire community. I would call it a hate crime. I would call it terrorism. It is both. [ inaudible question ] im not going to comment on our investigative techniques at this time. Are you confident that all 49 victims were killed by the gunman . I dont have the results on that. Is the shooters car still here . That is still a matter of federal evidence. It is still in our custody. [ inaudible question ] thats a good question. I can tell you that we are combing not just the street but everywhere we believe the shooter to have been, as i mentioned, in the coming days before this event. We are collecting all digital, video, electronic evidence that we can. I would ask anyone out there that thinks they may have something of fbi concern, bring it too us no matter how small. We want to see anything that you have that you may have concern with. [ inaudible question ] as i mentioned before, there are no current credible singular threats facing florida or the nation, to my knowledge. You can be assured that if and when something rises to our attention, we will make sure the public is acutely aware. When do you expect to finalize your charges . Im going to refer to ausa. As ive said before, as i said today, we do not know when charges will be finalized, to answer your question. Indeed, were not sure what charges will be brought, or if charges will be brought. I can assure you that we are working with our Law Enforcement partners to find everything we can about what happened in the pulse nightclub. Were using all Law Enforcement and legal tools to reconstruct not only the events of that nig night, but events over the past several months, not only with respect to what the shooter did in orlando, what he did in ft. Pierce. This is an exhaustive a review of evidence as you will find in the United States. Were leaving no stone your honor turned, but we simply cannot speculate on the timing of charges or whether there will be charges. It would really be unfair to not only any main person with respect to charges, but also to the public. We want to keep the public well informed and we do not want to invite idle speculation that will only hamper our efforts. We cannot put a time limit on that. The only limit we have is that were going to go until were absolutely satisfied that weve uncovered every bit of evidence thats out there and weve reviewed every possible charge. Thats when this investigation will end. It might be a matter of days. Could be weeks. Could be years. There is simply no way to determine at this time how long the investigation will last. Are you able to say whether you have any other suspects or persons of interest in connection with the case . The question was whether we have any other suspects or persons of interest. I cannot answer that question directly but i will tell you that we are investigating not only this crime, but Law Enforcement is talking to everyone associated with the shooter. And that includes his family, his friends, people in businesses. It includes anyone who fell within the gamut of what the shooter was doing in the months leading up to the crime. Is who cooperating . Is i cannot comment on the cooperation of any individual at this time. As assistant special agent hopper said, we are talking to literally hundreds of people and any cooperation that we receive will be kept in confidence. Governor scott . [ inaudible question ] [ speak iing Foreign Language ] this is going to conclude our Media Briefing at this point in time. Thanks, everybody. All right. Welcome to the real story. Weve been listening to this briefing on the orlando terror attack investigation and it is wrapping up right now with the governor there and other fbi agents and such. Now they are asking for the publics help. Welcome to the real story. Im gretchen carlson. The fbi saying while it is pursuing many leads, it wants anyone who had contact with the orlando gunman to contact the agency. Our own phil keating is live for us in florida. Reporter hi, gretchen. This investigation, criminal investigation beyond the imagination prior to what happened at the pulse nightclub on sunday. The fbi and the u. S. Attorney of the middle district of florida reiterating here many leads are still being pursued. The fbi still asking anybody in this part of florida, anybody whos in orlando, anybody who may have run in to omar mateen or even his wife, noor salmon, in the most recent days, weeks or months who may have a tip, no matter how insignificant or how small you think it is, the fbi wants you to call it in to their number 1800callfbi. The crime scene inside the pulse nightclub, still an intense crime scene. Many investigators there still doing trajectory analysis as well as crime scene mapping. The fbi is trying to get the most complete picture of the horror that unfolded sunday morning so that the public and the families of the 49 victims, as well as those of the 53 wounded customers and patrons of the pulse nightclub can find out anything they want. As far as an arrest and ultimate charge against the wife, the u. S. Attorney would not speculate. Im not going to speculate today as to any charges that may be brought or indeed about whether any charges will be brought in this case. It is premature to do so. It would interfere and hamper the investigation. Again, federal Law Enforcement sources have been telling fox news that the prosecutors are seeking a grand jury to get an indictment against the wife for numerous charges including accessory to 49 counts of murder. Phil keating live for us in florida, thank you. Another big story going on, fox news alert on capitol hill today, a filibuster underway in the senate. This is a live shot of that happening right now. Several Democratic Senators taking control of the floor demanding a vote on gun control measures. At the same time democratic senator Dianne Feinstein may be collaborating now with republican senator john cornyn to prevent known or suspected terrorists from purchasing firearms. Feinstein today releasing a new gao report showing 91 of known or suspected terrorists, about 2,000, passed firearm background checks. Lets debate this. Chris plante, syndicated radio talk show host, marjorie clifton, former consultant to the obama campaign. Marjorie, democrats doing a filibuster right now on trying to get the republicans to come to their side to find some sort of come to jesus moment here on gun control. Are they going to be successful . Well, this is the most glorious bipartisan moment that weve seen in a long time and what im proud of is the fact that weve got both parties coming together around a very important measure. This seems like a nobrainer. Again, 2,000 people on the known terrorist watch list possessing armed weapons. This should be a simple way, simple solution and something they can come together on. Thehat Hillary Clinton has been able to pound donald trump and republicans on this issue. Does marjorie have a point . Do you think republicans should come to the table on this . Well, honestly, its sort of distasteful this soon after the attack in orlando. Honestly, i think it is political, it is selfserving and banning one weapon or one category of weapons is a feelgood moment perhaps but it is kind of like combating drunk driving deaths by banning the import of white french wines. Were talking about terrorists. Not the assault weapon ban. Were talking about terrorists where Dianne Feinstein says 90 of them passed background checks. Even now donald trump was tweeting out today to the nra who endorsed him that he wants to have another conversation with them about this exact topic. Chris. Its good to have a conversation about it but we have tens of thousands of people on the terrorism watch list, most of whom have no relationship to terrorism. And they have not been convicted of any crime. Theyve not been charged or tried for any crime and were taking away their rights preemptivety. If we have all these terrorists walking around, i would suggest we do something about them. Lets listen to what Hillary Clinton said about the topic today. If you are too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun. And he wants to ban all muslims from ren tentering our country suspend immigration from large parts of the world. His comments have become even more inflammatory in recent days. This approach isnt just wrong, it is dangerous. Marjorie, why dont you respond to chris in the point that he makes that a lot of people may be on these lists that are law abiding citizens . Right. But at the same time, we are dealing with a real problem, a systemic problem. Right now in a time of tragedy like this, what people want is what can we do. And there is something very concrete we can do and that is remove guns from the hands of those who are at risk. So they are being monitored, they are being watched. The biggest question right now is how do we deal with. Lone wolf, how do we deal with people who are radicalized for many Different Reasons within the country. And in this case, again, take the guns away. That is the first step. Chris, so you would be against donald trump wanting to maybe see eye to eye on this Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell has also said some comments about it. Governor john kasich, speaker paul ryan, senator rob portman, senator pat toomey, congressman pete sessions, congressman michael mccaul, all republicans. Look, im in favor of having a reasonable adult conversation on all of the great issues of our day, but hillary just mentioned the nofly list which is separate from the terrorism watch list. Believe it or not. And senator ted kennedy when he was alive was actually for a period of time on the nofly list. True. He was not a terrorist. Right. And not give him a gun either. The whole point is if youre on the nofly list, you shouldnt have a gun as well. There are some people on the list that dont deserve to be there though so for their rights that would be an issue as well, something to sort out. Thank you so much for the debate. Moving on now fox news alert. New details in the search for toddler snatched by an alligator at disney world last night. I an whose to say its pronounced nutriton, anyway . Another tragedy striking florida where a 2yearold boy was dragged off by an alligator while vacationing in disney world. The boit was ply was playing at of the lake the a the resort with his family nearby when he was snatched and attacked. Once on scene we determined that this 2yearold child was playing at the edge of the water, probably a foot or so into water, when this alligator came up and attacked the child. The father did his best. He tried to rescue the child. However, to no avail. Our own peter doocy now live in lake bueno vista. Reporter the latest is the sheriff tells me it took just seconds for the gator to grab the boy, wrestle him away from his dad who was trying to maintain his grip, and then swim away with the toddler. The sheriff also says that based on witness accounts of the 2yearold disappearing under the water, he has no doubt the boy is dead. Theyve operated here for 45 years, disney has, and theyve never had this type of thing happen before. Reporter this happened in an area without no swimming signs but no beware of alligator signs. They are searching the area around the manmade body of water but wildlife Officials Say there are mechanical systems in place that are complicating their efforts. They have no plans to call this search off. If they cannot find the boy today, they will come back tomorrow. So far five gators found here last night and today have been euthanized. Wildlife officials looked inside them though and found nothing. We are told that the familys name has been withheld to this point so that they can notify their loved ones about what happened themselves. Gretchen. Such a horrible, horrible story, peter. Thank you. For more on this, lets bring in ron mcgill, Communications Director for the miami zoo. Ron, great to have you on the real story. Such a tough story to talk about and youre down there in florida. You understand the prevalence of gators there. Should there have been different signage at the foot of this lake . Yeah, i think theyre going to rethink that. You need to make people understand why no swimming. People think no swimming at all. They think we cant swim. They think there is an undercurrent or something else. People understand that gators can be found in any of these fresh water bodies of water. They will rethink letting their kids go in these areas of water. Bottom line is there are over 1 million alligators in the state of florida. Their populations have exploded. Were going to see more and more of these types of conflicts as time goes on. So you believe though that it is rare for a gator to actually attack. Did it have anything to do with the fact that it was nighttime . Absolutely. It is very rare. Understand that there is i think a total of 383 attacks since 1948 in the state of florida . Thats really nothing when you look at it in perspective. But having said that, if you take a small child, put them on the side of Shallow Water in the lagoon at night, a alligator will easily mistake that for a dog, a oppossum. Alligators are still feeders, they can approach you in water, youll never see a ripple in the water. They can grab you. That is so scary to hear that depiction. Now it is my understanding this family is from nebraska. Im from minnesota. Had i been there as a kid, we dont know this stuff about gators. Thats the problem. I think it is a matter of education, making people understand. The state of florida has to do a better job in making people understand there are gators. You need to assume any time you see a fleresh body of water in e state of florida, whether on a golf course, a pond, there could be an alligator in there. Males are searching for females, they will walk for miles on land looking for different bodies of water looking for females. I saw one hit on the road the other day on the expressway on the way to Miami International airport. This is not uncommon to see them in different places. Very scary story. Ron mcgill, thaunks fnks for yo time. New video of the orlando gunman from a documentary recently uncorvered. What was he saying in this video . Theyre like hoping for more oil to come out and more people to complain so theyll have jobs. Once people get laid off here it is going to suck. They want more disaster to happy because thats where their money making is. Thats from the 2012 documentary the big fix where mateen criticizes cleanup efforts for the bp oil spill. At the time he worked for the company g4s, also his Current Employer at the time of sundays attack. We are learning he threatened to strap explosives to the hostages leaving officials concerned about possible other boobytraps or explosive. As fbi director james comey prepares to update senators on that investigation. Katherine herridge, Law Enforcement just had this news conference. Whats your assessment . Were four days into this federal investigation, gretchen, and it is really very much wide open. The fbi is soliciting tips from the public. Theyre also soliciting video from the night to, in effect, piece together who else was at the scene prior to the shooting. What we know from lawmakers who were briefed yesterday by the fbi director, the Homeland Security secretary, and the head of the National Counterterrorism center is this picture of omar mateen is emerge is as someone who was unhinged, prone to anger. And when he was in that kind of state of mind he would mouth off about terrorist groups. And someone who also seemed conflicted about his own sexuality. Then there was this overlay of a kind of slow burn radicalization. This was an act of violence, born out of hate, that inflicted terror on an entire community. So i would call it a hate crime. I would call it terrorism. Its both. The more we look at these cases, the more you see some of these Common Threads in terms of the type of materials they were reading to sort of get on to that path to radicalization. But increasingly what we see with isis is that the group is particularly targeting those who are unstable or somewhat mentally ill as kind of easy pickings for these soldiers of the caliphate here in the u. S. Complicates the whole matter. So tell us more about the new Homeland Security threat bulletin. I know it changed under president obama but has there been a change to actually that new program . Well, this bulletin was released just at the top of this last hour and it is from something called the ntas, which is the National Terrorism advisory system. This is the system that replaced the post9 11 color bars and it is meant to be more sort of news that you can use for the public in terms of what the threat picture looks like. And this was going to be released yesterday but it was moved up in light of what we saw in florida over the weekend. It reads, in part, in this environment, we are particularly concerned about homegrown violent extremists who could strike with little or no notice. The tragic events of orlando several days ago reinforce this. Accordingly, increased public vigilance and awareness continue to be of utmost importance. I guess a couple of additional notes. It doesnt seem a whole lot thats new here except it advises more security, more prohibited items, and it makes no mention of the religious motivation in these cases, gretchen. Interesting. Katherine, thank you. Today federal prosecutors saying he wont speculate about wheth charges will be brought in the ongoing orlando shooting investigation and whether anyone else will actually ever be charged. Joining me, our legal panel. Arthur ardelo, president of the balloon bar association, and ja jana. There is talk the wife of omar mateen may have been complicit in this. They neededto go to a grand jury the confidence that they could prove not only did she take particular beings as but when she took those actions she knew what he was going to do. If she just gave him a ride to the gun store and she thinks hes really buying a gun to keep at the house, there is nothing wrong with that. If he says im buying this gun to go hurt someone, or anyone now, shes a criminal. I compliment the federal authorities for getting any evidence before they link to a conclusion. Yesterday the allegation was she told authorities i tried to talk him out of it. That would actually be her defense if in fact she is charged. Here the feds have the luxury of time because when you think about it, the perpetrators dead so there is no speedy trial statute thats going to come into play. They can take their sweet time. Unless there is noer suspect. But unless that suspect is charged, they have all the time in the world to do the investigation that they need. The thing we need to be careful about here is the fine line between being gung ho about trying to find others to charge and not having them shut up for fear of being charged. We want to know what everybody knows. But if there is an overriding fear that if you know anything youre going to be charged, now it is going to have a chilling effect. Maybe thats why they said what they said. At the same time they were asking for video and other information from the public leading up to what happened that night and as it was ongoing. So they really seem like they want the publics help. How did you read that . But what shes saying, is if you have some information, you get a little bit nervous, am i going to be chargedfy come forward. But there is a way around that. The potential witness tells it to their lawyer and the lawyer does an attorneys proffer. As opposed to coming out of the witness mouth, it comes ow of the lawyers mouth. This is what my client knows. He hung out at this cafe, with these friends, he used to go on this website. And that would help the authorities without putting client in harms way. We have to wrap it there. Attorneys, thank you. For more on the orlando terror investigation lets bring in congressman who sits on the Democratic Committee on intelligence. Youve had a busy day so thanks for joining us on the real story. Go back to the original day that this all happened. There was much discussion about whether or not the police should have this socalled military equipment like bearcats and such to go in and be able to keep others safe, including themselves, when we have terror attacks and massive gun shootings like we saw early sunday morning. I know as a democrat that you actually dont adprgree with president obamas stance on this. Correct . I believe that when properly trained this equipment is very effective in situations like we saw in orlando. Id vote to make sure that when departments are trained they are allowed to use this. Weve seen examples where untrained departments, whether it was in ferguson or other violent situations, that they werent as expectative. But here it worked. We saw in dallas a shooting last year where someone went on a shooting spree across the city and it was the s. W. A. T. Teams bearcat and other equipment that helped bring down that shooter. So when the police are trained, this equipment helps them take down and fight against people who are sometimes better armed than they are. There is a filibuster going on right now where you are on capitol hill in the senate though with regard to gun control. It is being brought on by democrats there and its interesting because there has been sort of a change amongst some republicans in the last 24 hours that quite possibly they might be in agreement with the democrats on this with regard to not allowing people on the terror watch list or the nofly list to be able to purchase guns. Whats your read on this . Theres no reason this cant be a bipartisan filibuster. I was an intern on capitol hill when september 11th happened. After that tragedy, we saw republicans and democrats come together to make the country more secure. I think what youre seeing is that republicans and democrats do believe that the easiest solution that we can take right now, the step that we can take that will make the biggest difference saying if youre too dangerous to get on a plane because you are on a watch list, you should be too dangerous to buy a weapon. I rise today because thoughts and prayers are not enough. Congress should immediately move forward and pass the denying firearms and explosives to dangerous terrorists ashct. This commonsense bill would prohibit dangerous terrorists from purchasing guns or explosives keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of people who wish to do our country harm is a solution we should all be able to get behind. Congressman, donald trump tweeting earlier today this i will be meeting with the nra who has endorsed me about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list or the nofly list to buy guns. Wow, right . You know, bob dold needs more friends in congress. I hope his republican colleagues join him. Right now americans are asking why can Republican Leadership not work with democrats on this issue to make sure that the most dangerous people dont have the most dangerous weapons . I also want to add what we can do with this bill is make sure that if you were once on a watch list, once you come off that watch list, perhaps Law Enforcement should be notified if you go and buy weapons. Because in this case, this individual came off the watch list, went and bought an assault weapon and police had no way of knowing. Congressman, thanks for your time today. Time for my take. Yesterday i startled many and pleased tons of others by saying i believe the assault weapons in this country, the ban, should be reinstated. Thats because i believe the gun control issue is not simply black and white but complicated. I said i was still in favor of the Second Amendment and even concealed carry. Still i knew id get comments like these. I guess thats supposed to be whiney ass. Should leave the airways forever. Your antiamerican comments today were among the stupidest ive ever heard. And i did not realize she was that stupid. Of course there were a lot worse ones with tons of fbombs and worse than that even. It is not the first time i faced criticism for standing up what i believe in. In my book getting real, i wrote about standing up when people called me fat as a kid, when people called me stupid after winning miss america, and a bimbo for working at fox news. That kind of intolerance is no doubt why politicians sometimes dont say what they really think because, well, intolerance and of course reelections. But could that now be changing . We now have donald trump advocating people on the terrorist watch list or nofly list to not be able to buy guns. Senator rob portman urge being the same ban. Congressman bob dold, all republicans. Maybe it is time for more us to start getting real to try to come together to actually get things done.
