Well, its a beautiful sunny day here in california, a good beach day. Local officials to see if people will follow coronavirus restrictions on california beaches during a holiday weekend. Its one of the largest beaches in Los Angeles County and known for its surf. You can see some people not social distancing there. Based on the countys guidelines, they are not able to sunbathe and set up on brothers. Some people are still out on the sand, but they are spread out. For the most part, local authorities and say most beachgoers are following the rules. Social distancing, wearing a mask if they are near other people. Compared to other memorial day weekends, its not as crowded. At that is of l. A. County. People appear to be keeping their social distancing going on there. Authorities are more focused on educating people on ways to stop the spread of the virus as opposed to handing out citations to those not following social distancing guidelines. Heres Huntington Beach and Orange County. In Orange County beaches are back open after the governor issued a controversial order to shut them down after pictures surfaced that appeared to show large crowds of people there just a few weeks ago. Orange county beaches are back open, but they are supposed to be for active use only. You can see people biking there, walking around. They are staying active. People are largely following the social distancing guidelines at beaches here at this holiday weekend. Local authorities had not reported any major problems or acts of defiance. Neil thank you very much. And that california. This is a time where a lot of restaurants are opening. With limited capacity. It depends where you are. Texas, its up to 50 you can fill a dining room. Other places, not so much. I didnt realize that you had restaurants all over the world, even in the united air mets. Half a dozen in the country. Texas is your mainstay. Because we have that strong online ordering presence, we have been able to not have mass layoffs and furloughs. But it is an exceptional challenge in navigating those regulations. That has been an adjustment for all of our folks. How much of that did you have prices have to adjust because of that . It has definitely affected us. They had perishable products and all of the Distribution Centers across the country and across the world but they didnt have any outlook for. Immediately froze the supply chain. Certainly, we have seen an increase in prices, specifically in brisket. At that life cycle for the harvest of the animal is almost three years. Poultry is shorter. Using a fluctuation in the commodities market of all markets. Beef has been the longest hit because it has the longest harvest cycle. That will take quite a while to work itself out to the market. There are just numbers and their people. When i looked in the article i saw at least a handful of my own patients in that article. One of them was a respected retired physician. Someone who i spoke to his family about. Trying to remember the people that i think you are really losing when youre trying to decide whether you should be doing something or not. That is what i think we should all be thinking about. I wonder what happens. We will have an inevitable spiking cases. It comes down to how much of us back the authorities are comfortable with. They focus on other things like hospitalizations and those that are they cases themselves, a small percentage are positive. They like to keep that under 3 . When deaths rise, and you have a spiking cases that happened in germany and italy, they have all been manageable enough to continue using restrictions. What do you think about that . That has to be a staged approach. We dont have any evidence right now for how to do that. We definitely know that if you open a very widely, it may be tough to manage that as well. Its almost a certainty that we will see more cases popping up. How many of them will there be . It only takes a few to get out of control. Opening up in a very slow stage process, it takes anywhere from two or three or four ways x to see cases pop up. Thats the worry. If there is no right answer here. I dont think anyone knows the right answer. So just taking it slow and not opening up to the full on social gatherings, large parties, and events. Just taking it one step at a time. Neil would you go to an event that had fans in the stands . The reason why mention it, the university of michigan is going back and forth on whether they will have the kids back this fall and person. They seem to be leaning that way. They have a very big Football Program as you know, a lot of money is at stake. They have the big ten at all and others. Im just wondering whether their concern is legitimate right now and whether even College Football as we know it in the fall could be a safety issue. I think there are so many issues with different areas. I think people that are opening up schools whether it be little kids or colleges are tasked with an impossible decision here. I dont think there is a right answer that i could provide. Looking more at sporting events, i live in new orleans, and im from alabama. A big football town, and a big football area. I know people are going to want to go no matter what. I dont know what the right answer is. Personally, i dont think i would be going if it was up to my decision. I dont know that i would totally restricted entirely. Thats also not my decision. It will have to be on an individualized basis with the organizers making the best decisions putting lives at risk. We were petrified after december the 7th 1941 when the japanese bombed pearl harbor, we thought they were going to attack the west coast of the United States but they didnt. We did some bad things like incarcerating japaneseamericans but we did some wonderful things like coming together, unified around a common direction, a common victory. Weve seen something similar, of course, the whole idea of memorial day dates back to the end of the american civil war, a family feud, if you will. That particular time, we had 10 , 10 of all americans were engaged directly in combat, we lost 2 of our total population and yet, that was a time in which we were really learning the lessons, we overcame great barriers. We did away with the scourge of slavery and it was necessary. Something our forefathers during the revolution failed to do. Weve been through a lot. The Great Depression lasted an entire decade, we are three months into this epidemic but the Great Depression cost us 25 of unemployment, 9 of the value of our stocks was totally lost, 40 of all americans were in poverty at a level, the lifestyle.
