Important things at that time. Much more to get to on that. Welcome everyone. I am neil cavuto and this is your world. This is a day where we reflect on where weve been and right now with a virus where we are going. First, we went to get the read of whats happening in new york with lower angle. Many are going to those speeches. We had a very slow start this morning. It was cloudy and cool. As the sun emerged, so have the people and the great experiment has been on. The people be able to socially distance as they have been asked to do for months once they hit the sand . We have seen a little bit of both as we take it to her across the northeast and around the nation along some beaches in the northeast, weve seen people out and about getting around the sand. Some abiding by the rules, others getting too close for comfort. There was this group of people they returned a hard note on the social distance challenge. Check out this pool party in ozark so the weekend with hundreds of people going shoulder to shoulder with hardly a mask inside. Health Officials Say that these are downright dangerous. We are not out of the words just yet. Also applaud those who are taking safety precautions seriously. We are happy to be here. We are happy to have a nice place to take our kids outside we love the beach. Weve been going to beaches since march and april when the weather started turning. Masks, fine. We are happy to be outside that is one county over from where im standing now. Images leaked out one bar that had a swarm of people knocking back beers friday night. That was not encouraging. The people were calling on 11 to report the crowds. As far as those reopening thresholds that we have been talking so much about here in new york today, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that hes actually going to take himself out of the speculating business announcing we all failed at that business. All of the Early National experts. They were all wrong. They were all wrong. We will have more to come on that front as people continue to enjoy the rest of this memorial day at the beach. Neil they were all wrong, but they are not telegraphing what they are going to do right now. That is their frustration for a lot of folks. Switched to the other coast right now. What is happening in los angeles they beaches reopen. This pent up cabin fever for a lot of folks, once given the opportunity, things could get a little crowded. The very latest in los angeles. Well, its a beautiful sunny day here in california, a good beach day. Local officials to see if people will follow coronavirus restrictions on california beaches during a holiday weekend. Its one of the largest beaches in Los Angeles County and known for its surf. You can see some people not social distancing there. Based on the countys guidelines, they are not able to sunbathe and set up on brothers. Some people are still out on the sand, but they are spread out. For the most part, local authorities and say most beachgoers are following the rules. Social distancing, wearing a mask if they are near other people. Compared to other memorial day weekends, its not as crowded. At that is of l. A. County. People appear to be keeping their social distancing going on there. Authorities are more focused on educating people on ways to stop the spread of the virus as opposed to handing out citations to those not following social distancing guidelines. Heres Huntington Beach and Orange County. In Orange County beaches are back open after the governor issued a controversial order to shut them down after pictures surfaced that appeared to show large crowds of people there just a few weeks ago. Orange county beaches are back open, but they are supposed to be for active use only. You can see people biking there, walking around. They are staying active. People are largely following the social distancing guidelines at beaches here at this holiday weekend. Local authorities had not reported any major problems or acts of defiance. Neil thank you very much. And that california. This is a time where a lot of restaurants are opening. With limited capacity. It depends where you are. Texas, its up to 50 you can fill a dining room. Other places, not so much. I didnt realize that you had restaurants all over the world, even in the united air mets. Half a dozen in the country. Texas is your mainstay. They have the best capacity rules right now. How are you dealing with that . Thank you so much for having us. It has been a challenge for everybody. We hit our basement as a system is 38 down in sails. We have climbed up in this past week. Its a fantastic weekend for us. We are up now i guess last years sails almost 14 . Good news, it has been a challenge. We are happy to help folks back in our dining room. He looks a little different, but thankfully we have been able to serve folks in our online ordering. That is helps keep the pressure on our supply chain so that we are able to have things to serve folks. Some of us competitors have had the challenge when they are getting back into serving. Because weve had an assistant sails and consistent online ordering, weve been able to build back in her welcoming folks back in. 50 is a lot more sustainable than 25 or even less than that. I hate to admit, i know your food is very, very well. I think people are more than happy to walk over broken glass to get it. Well, i appreciate that. Neil it is a very slow process. If texas one thing. Some of these other areas like new york where they have yet to do business is problematic. How do you police all of that i keep track of all of that . It is an absolute challenge. Its a tale of two cities, a tale of two businesses. We have a lot of restaurants that have opened at 25 that we are sitting at 50 . We have restaurants in new york and california are all over appeared at their challenges are great. They had to navigate as you have. Our catering. Folks are looking for that. Because we have that strong online ordering presence, we have been able to not have mass layoffs and furloughs. But it is an exceptional challenge in navigating those regulations. They changed not only by statebystate but by municipality. You can see the floor stickers behind me were asked to help folks distance those sorts of things. We have Hand Sanitizer and moved everything. They are used to that wonderful sauce. Weve gone through is served. We have nothing that is communal anymore in the restaurant. That has been an adjustment for all of our folks. Went up out of the made issue, whether it is pork or beef and all of these processing plants because of the coronavirus and initially hits the meat supply getting to places like grocery stores. How much of that did you have prices have to adjust because of that . It has definitely affected us. Again, thankfully, because we have been able to maintain operations, we took a 33 direct to an pressure on the supply chain. It was as a immediately hit shock wave like our dining rooms emptied out. They had perishable products and all of the Distribution Centers across the country and across the world but they didnt have any outlook for. Immediately froze the supply chain. Ourselves along with some of our other folks in the industry that have been able to keep serving, thankfully, because we have kept that steady supply, we are able to now do better. Certainly, we have seen an increase in prices, specifically in brisket. At that life cycle for the harvest of the animal is almost three years. Poultry is shorter. Using a fluctuation in the commodities market of all markets. Beef has been the longest hit because it has the longest harvest cycle. That will take quite a while to work itself out to the market. The open will see prices stabilized in midjune. All right, real quickly, im always curious. How many keep you up on that . Your food who is ordering the diet mr. Mark i think diet is a relative term, if you will. They have a lot of folks that command that arcade out that are searching for that protein, that is great for them. We also have a lot of folks that come in and indulge. We are happy for anybody that comes in right now. We really appreciate all of our guests. It is made a huge difference in keeping our crews keeping their paychecks. The whole industry feels that way. We are so thankful. Competitors keep you strong and sharpened. We are doing all they can and so appreciative for the business. It diet or not diet. You have been very good to your staff and your customers. Dont they know it and keep going up about it. Imagine all the states and ordinances that you have to follow. All around the world, i dont get that. It is very popular there. We told you about the threat that we close off brazil because of the sudden excavation in coronavirus cases. We have made good on closing all of those traveling from brazil to here. Brazil has the secondhighest number of covid19 cases second only to us after this. I came across sofi and it was the best decision of my life. My doctor recommended eliquis. Eliquis is proven to treat and help prevent another dvt or pe blood clot. Almost 98 of patients on eliquis didnt experience another. And eliquis has significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. Eliquis is fdaapproved and has both. Dont stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. If you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling numbness or muscle weakness. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. Speak to travel restrictions that we now on china and parts of europe need to stay in place as we get the economy back up and running and back open. Need to make sure that we dont have a rebound, we dont have a second flip. And so, those restrictions are very, very important at the moment. Neil well, it has begun. The issue here is brazil right now. Its got a runaway number of cases that suddenly started spiking and uncontrollably so within the last couple of weeks. So much so, it is second to us in both cases and deaths. There is is worsening. This restriction on those coming are having visited brazil to the United States putting all but a moratorium on that. Good afternoon to you. These restrictions are set to go into effect late thursday night. They were rubies similar to what we have seen with other countries. Brazil as he talks about has no secret in terms of the number of cases and has been hit a especially hard. The white house is promising to send ventilators to brazil as early as this week to help. I think one of the hard things about this crisis is that weve had to restrict travel from some of our closest friends and allies. We are going to help them get through it. The white house do not believe the new restrictions will impact trade between the u. S. And brazil. The administration has suggested that more travel restrictions may have to come down the pipeline in the next several weeks and months. President trump and first lady headed out to fort mchenry and baltimore for memorial day. Especially those helping aghast of coronavirus outbreak. President trump as one nation, we mourn alongside every Single Family that has lost loved ones including the families of our great veterans. Together, we will vanquish the virus and america will rise from this crisis to new and even greater heights. The president i briefly had a chance to stop with the first lady outside the tomb of the unknown soldier. The secretary of defense. Neil thank you, my friend, very, very much. A republican in tennessee sits on the House Homeland Security committee and joins us via skype. Always good to have you. Would you make on the restrictions on those traveling from brazil . I would respect where moore could follow. Where are we with this . Thanks for having me on the show. I think it is expected. We look at the accounts that are coming to us from brazil. 300 plus thousand cases. There is a university down there and it predicts that it could be 12 times that. Their ability to track information is different than our ability. If you do 12 times that are ten times that, best 200,000 plus deaths. Its appropriate and consistent with the president would put this restriction on. We are watching their curve very closely and watching the curves all around the world. It is appropriate at this time to hold off on nonu. S. Citizen travel from brazil. We already know that visits from china and the far east are ready in danger of being cut down and very, very low. Do you see anything to change that, or do you advocate since it seems to be the worst of it, we can entertain allowing more into this country. Our things so bad that now is not the time to consider . We have to take into consideration everyones curve. Were treating states differently in newark merely as a different place. I think we can do that in terms of countries overseas and our allies and friends. We want to open up as quickly as we can but it really depends on where they are in their curve. If they are in an exponential growth phase like brazil is, we probably need to stop travel. Do you wonder about this relationship we have with the chinese . The one issue that has come up is the more that we threaten to crack down on how the chinese are cracking down on hong kong, for the worse its going to get between us certainly financial financially. They have more reason to stick to a deal. They could change. It does get out of control. Your thoughts. We are already in a Great Power Competition with china. If you use the diamond paradigm, we have been in Economic Warfare for china for many years. We didnt even know it. The case of motorola is an excellent example. They share their ip information. They undercut them with subsidies from china. It is scrapped for 900 million. Thats what fuels our military. That is what allows us to provide National Security. If there has been a Great Power Competition for a very long ti time. Its like it is gone exponenti exponential. Its informational, cyber hacking, all this stuff. The way theyve handled covid, only icing on the cake to a big problem. If china wants a great relationship with United States, they have to start acting like a friend. The way they handled covid is more concerning. Their response to our response to that is even worse. Al all right, we will watch t closely. We have a lot more after this including all of these crowds you see popping up. You can understand, theyve had cabin fever. They crowd beaches and resort areas. What do you do when they cases rise exponentially with that . That is happening in some plac places. You wont believe where after this. Neil i know looking at these pages for those of you just listening at home on the radio here, theyre going to show whats happening in north carolina, new jersey, new york, california. Its not that people arent speaking to social distancing guidelines, but the weather is not cooperating. Im sure they will under the ideal summer time conditions. It is the weather that is playing a big role here. People are getting increasingly worried that the more people are let out that more will congregate. The spiking cases. They have been numbers like that including the ozarks and arkansas. I can go on and on here. Its something that they worry about. Contagions and the rest. A doctor, you know, when you look at it, people getting out and wanting me out. Its very hard to police the crowds that come as a result. What do you see happening . What are the risks in cases that it comes from Something Like this . Will you see that . It is really tough, neil. I was trying to think about everybody how i would respond. Everyone has been cooped up. Having two young kids at home, i totally understand. Part of what reminds me, the people that we lost. 100,000 people that have died from this disease. There are just numbers and their people. When i looked in the article i saw at least a handful of my own patients in that article. One of them was a respected retired physician. Someone who i spoke to his family about. Trying to remember the people that i think you are really losing when youre trying to decide whether you should be doing something or not. That is what i think we should all be thinking about. I wonder what happens. We will have an inevitable spiking cases. It comes down to how much of us back the authorities are comfortable with. They focus on other things like hospitalizations and those that are they cases themselves, a small percentage are positive. They like to keep that under 3 . When deaths rise, and you have a spiking cases that happened in germany and italy, they have all been manageable enough to continue using restrictions. What do you think about that . I think thats a good point. Its really tough. We dont have a cure. We dont have a vaccine. Youre starting to get some treatments coming along. We are still managing this by exposing a lot of people. That has to be a staged approach. We dont have any evidence right now for how to do that. We definitely know that if you open a very widely, it may be tough to manage that as well. Its almost a certainty that we will see more cases popping up. How many of them will there be . It only takes a few to get out of control. Opening up in a very slow stage process, it takes anywhere from two or three or four ways x to see cases pop up. Thats the worry. If there is no right answer here. I dont think anyone knows the right answer. So just taking it slow and not opening up to the full on social gatherings, large parties, and events. Just taking it one step at a time. Neil would you go to an event that had fans in the stands . The reason why mention it, the university of michigan is going back and forth on whether they will have the kids back this fall and person. They seem to be leaning that way. They have a very big Football Program as you know, a lot of money is at stake. They have the big ten at all and others. Im just wondering whether their concern is legitimate right now and whether even College Football as we know it in the fall could be a safety issue. I think there are so many issues with different areas. I think people that are opening up schools whether it be little kids or colleges are tasked with an impossible decision here. I dont think there is a right answer that i could provide. Looking more at sporting events, i live in new orleans, and im from alabama. A big football town, and a big football area. I know people are going to want to go no matter what. I dont know what the right answer is. Personally, i dont think i would be going if it was up to my decision. I dont know that i would totally restricted entirely. Thats also not my decision. It will have to be on an individualized basis with the organizers making the best decisions putting lives at risk. Spay two all right, doctor, we will watch very closely. In the front lines of all of this, as the doctor was thinking here, theyre all of these economic protections based on people getting back to work even with the spiking cases. In the issue is how much of a bank do we get for these economic doing that. It could be strong. It could be very strong, orchids are not will be nothing. Both sides after this. One step at a time, being very cautious, but by far, we still have a lot of headroom here coming forward in the upcoming months. We are not encouraged just because theres a couple of good days. I think we see these trends two or three or four months from now, they were going to see some leveling off of obviously the Financial Impact that has been created. Neil joining me on this past weekend. Hes just happy that things will be back to business hopefully very soon in las vegas. He has operations all over the world, of course. It will be different. It will be very, very different. Takes a look at how this overall change in the way we see and do things will affect how much we buy Going Forward and how much we traveled Going Forward. As someone who looks at Consumer Travel and the trend there, knowing that, hearing mats, and hearing other restrictions, will it give some people pause . Will they say, im going to go to vegas so im going to to these casinos, maybe i will hold off. What are you hearing . Yes, absolutely. Its the same weve sensed since some of the stayathome orders were issued back in march. We saw a huge drop not only in people traveling, but in demand to travel in the near term in the longer term. While we have seen reports in recent days and weeks that show that people are showing interest in traveling again, certainly across the board. It is lower, considerably. But i think some of the positive signals are coming from a very low point. And i think people are definitely taking a bit of pause before playing that next trick. Where they headed . Now, i understand that Domestic Travel is a priority over any foreign travel. That, i can understand, but where domestically . Can you update us . Absolutely. When you look at data from the hopper act, they just ran a study and most people are actually traveling to some of the warmer beach getaway destinations that you would think of in the u. S. Over the next three months, places in california and florida and hawaii, interestingly on one of the most searched lists. Although they do have some of the most stringent policies regarding once you actually arrive. Yet the current year for 14 da days. It is definitely important to research the destination you are going to go to. Even now, youre going to go there to quarantine for 14 days. A lot of people say that that isnt worth it. In the southeast part of the United States, or the southwest part of the United States, they dont have these types of restrictions. What are you saying . That is what were saying. While people are looking ahead with some more hopeful travel, you know, for the next few months, until the restrictions ease up, were seeing that beaches in florida and other places like that are becoming certainly more popular and crowded, frankly. When we look ahead to the future of travel, we are hopefully ushering in an age of more conscious travel on someone who understands how to maintain social distance even if they are getting outside and traveling. I am seeing extra conscientious for yourself and others is going to be very important. Good guidance. Thank you very much for taking the time. Can you guys imagine, telling your boss youre going to hawa hawaii. 14 days on top of the trip. See how that goes. Those in hong kong hearing yesterday that china wants to slap down and add more restrictions and for bid protests like this, well, they are still protesting, but the chinese bill promising, this all ends and as soon as this week. Dexter roberts join us right now. At the guy wrote the book on chinese capitalism way ahead of the curve when no one was. What are we in for . More importantly, one of those hong kong residents and for . I first started writing about china back in the mid90s. When i was a Foreign Correspondent over there. Over the years, i saw ups and downs over the relationship. And not seen anything like what were seeing right now. It seems as if people are throwing around the word cold war. It certainly is the most alarming down term in the relationship in many years. And in hong kong, were seeing 11 side of that cold war, that Alarming State of division between the two countries. That is the factor that china is signaling, they dont want to compromise halfway at all year as the relationship gets wares. What they are doing in hong kong with National Security is throwing down the gauntlet and saying, we know the world doesnt like this. We know this is bad for hong kong, but we are going to do it anyway. May have they have been so ostracized not only by the United States but australia and the modern civilized world that it has been appalled that they handled the whole coronavirus situation and what they knew and what they knew it. We recognize them as this world capitalist power. At their core, really, they are military one. They seem to err on that side when things hit the fan. Im wondering if this could be another Tiananmen Square that we are dealing with or worse. Obviously, i certainly hope that it doesnt get to that. But what we can see is absolutely no willingness to compromise when it comes to hong kong. By the way, thats a clear message for taiwan, the unanswered relationship with taiwan. And, yeah, things are getting much worse. From the hong kong peoples perspective, there is no reason why they should be anymore ready to accept this socalled one country, two systems which is what china promise, giving their territory a higher degree of autonomy in 1997 with the agreement with great britain. I covered that from china. Clearly, that is not the direction they are heading. I dont expect the hong kong people to stand down. They have shown their willingness to take to the streets and in increasingly large numbers and protest this alerting trend in the relationship between china and hong kong. Neil we have promised a response in this country if china cracks down on hong kong. What do you think that will be . I think the most likely move is to take away the special status that the u. S. Grants hong kong, which means that imports and exports dont have any tariffs in most cases at a all. It looks like we may be heading in that direction. It is the nuclear bomb option in terms of the hong kong economy. Hong kong survives and thrives on this being a trading for the world. By the way, it has been important for Mainland China in that role. If the u. S. Goes to take that steps, that will be devastating for the hong kong economy. Neil dexter roberts, thank you very, very much. We will see. It is escalating as we speak. To your point, dexter roberts. They have a lot more after this including california now trying to open up charges they are with some very strict guidelines. Communities showing support in their own way. Our way is massmutual healthbridge, a free Life Insurance program just for healthcare workers fighting covid19. So to all the healthcare workers on the front lines, thank you. Neil all right, California California right now, that is the governor there, gavin newsom on how he will slowly reopen churches and places of worship throughout the golden state. It could be problematic. Trace gallagher has more from los angeles. Ppe even though the ninth court of appeals has blocked, Dominic Adam Newsom has decided to open them anyway and is allowing the counties to open them immediately if they choose. Places of worship can stay close that they want to. If they do decide to open, the governor has laid out new guidelines, and they are extensive. They must limit capacity to 25 or 100 people depending on the size of the building. All employees and volunteers will be trained on how to keep the virus from spreading. Anyone attending our presiding over a religious service would have to wear a mask. The state has recommended eliminating all singing especially by a choir. A social distancing would still be required. Catholics would need to reword things like communion and confession and at some mosques about banning that sharing of prayer rugs. We should note that there is no enforcement mechanism. The sheriff is not going to come to the churches that harass people. No one is going to knock on the confessional. Its all about self policing. All of this comes as to churches in california Held Services without permission, both services turned out to be the source of coronavirus outbreaks. Neil very good point, my friend. When we had this fighting back and forth on services and how many crowds can fit in and social distancing, you would think that we had never been through such divisive times. Neil you know, remembering the importance of this day, it might be a good thing that on this memorial day theres not many places americans could go so they almost had to stop themselves in their tracks to remember this day at all. Thats probably a good thing to my next guest, decorated, retired colonel bob mcginnis. Written thousands of articles for journals and magazines on the importance of military and the importance of our country. I cant think of a better guest to have it, the significance of his day, some americans are at each others throats on politics and the virus, we are reminded of those who have silently given their lives so we can do all of that. In fact, thats true, neil. Today is a special day, we honor, we mourn the military personnel who have died in defense of this country. And weve seen about 1. 4 million, another 1. 3 million have been wounded in action and we plot 30 different conflicts, a lot of blood has been spilled although as you indicated, covid19 has really put us on our back but i see it as a temporary setback, we are a great nation, weve done wonderful things in the past, weve overdone great problems. World war ii, time in which we lost 400,000 young americans, 670,000 were wounded, 16 million were under arms. We were petrified after december the 7th 1941 when the japanese bombed pearl harbor, we thought they were going to attack the west coast of the United States but they didnt. We did some bad things like incarcerating japaneseamericans but we did some wonderful things like coming together, unified around a common direction, a common victory. Weve seen something similar, of course, the whole idea of memorial day dates back to the end of the american civil war, a family feud, if you will. That particular time, we had 10 , 10 of all americans were engaged directly in combat, we lost 2 of our total population and yet, that was a time in which we were really learning the lessons, we overcame great barriers. We did away with the scourge of slavery and it was necessary. Something our forefathers during the revolution failed to do. Weve been through a lot. The Great Depression lasted an entire decade, we are three months into this epidemic but the Great Depression cost us 25 of unemployment, 9 of the value of our stocks was totally lost, 40 of all americans were in poverty at a level, the lifestyle. It was a terrible time but we overcame that, too. You are exactly right, my friend. Thank you for your service and more of a reminder of how we should act and be grateful. Thats what we think of. We are all at each others throats, remember. Remember. [taps playing] jesse hello, everybody. Im Jesse Watters along with greg gutfeld, dana perino, Juan Williams and emily compag compagno. From new york city, this is the five. Musical its memorial day, the unofficial kickoff to summer and even though this holiday may be different this year, social distancing during a pandemic, we are still going to have a lot of fun. Before we get to that, we want to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our countrys freedom. Wed also like to honor
